Have my colonoscopy on Feb 15th- decided not to wait any longer. Im a bit concerned...i'm only 35 but i have had a lot of GI problems for 8 yrs and both grandmothers died from colon cancer

I have had chronic constipation and bowel problems for a while so I almost feel like they will have to find something in there. My fear is polyps and/or cancer.

Have any of you with chronic bowel problems had clean colonoscopies?

Except for 'the most extensive' diverticuli the doctor had ever seen my colonscopys came back normal prediagnosis. At the time I had suffered from daily explosive D for 15 years with the last 5 also including 3 hour painful bouts every night. It was more painful than having a ten lbs baby was. Of course my doctor was to ill-informed to even bother with doing an endo. I have always wondered what that would have shown.

If you going to do the lower it is a good idea to have them scope the other end at the same time. It only adds a short amount of time to add the endo in. With your continued issues they really should check your villi and see how your healing in additon to scoping the lower end.

The prep is no fun but the test is a breeze. You will most likely sleep right through it all.

I'm glad you decided to get it done soon--chances are all is well and that should put your mind at ease. I was nervous about mine, since it was my first. The cleanse the night before is unpleasant, but the procedure itself was fine since I was completely out for the entire thing. The last thing I remember was having the IV put in, and the next thing I knew I was awake and it was over. Afterwards, I felt fine.

I had had GI problems (diarrhea, nausea) for years before mine, my dad had a polyp at age 50 that had turned malignant (it was removed before it had a chance to spread and never reoccurred), but thankfully mine was clean. Happily, my dad is now 82 and doing great--the key is if you have a concern/family history, get checked out but don't panic. Knowledge is power ;)

Best of luck, and let us know how you do!

I had forgotten you mentioned that before. I hope everything goes well with the scope and that they can figure out what is going on.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶

Thank you so much for the information and kind message! Reading this transformed how I’ve been viewing my efforts and progress. Guess there’s still a lot to celebrate and also heal 😌  Yes, I’ve been taking it! Just recently started taking a multivitamin supplement and separated vitamin D! I also took chewable Iron polymaltose for ferritin deficiency 2 months ago but was unable to absorb any of it.  Thank you again! Hearing such gentle words from the community makes my body and heart more patient and excited for the future.

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.
