i had my endoscopy and the doctor found what he called "coffee ground like substance in stomach". the nurse that called me said the results for h.pylori were negative and no cancer. i'm still waiting for the rest of the biopsies and to speak to him at my follow up, but i was just wondering if anyone has ever had this and if it could be related to celiac? inflamation? of course i'm to remain gluten free from now on but is this something that pepto bismal can help heal faster?

Did they say you had an ulcer? When someone vomits coffee ground emesis (vomit) it usually indicates blood. Could you have a bleeding ulcer? I'm not trying to scare you, but you need to ask the doctor about this and find out if it could be blood or something else.

Do not take pepto unless you clear it with the doctor first. As the other poster said that can be a sign that you are bleeding in your stomach. I would call the doctors office and ask to be put on his call back list tommorrow. If by some chance he doesn't do call backs ask to be put on the cancellation list or if you can get an earlier appointment if the return appointment is a bit away. Try not to worry too much about it. I think if this was an urgent finding he would have had you return to the office right away.

thanks ... i did research the ulcer and will definitely be calling them today. they also found a hiatal hernia so maybe that is what was/is causing my sternum to feel bruised off and on. so many issues i just want to be healed. i know that gluten challenge i did set me back and messed up my progress but i am looking ahead now and doing what i can on my part to get better. i know many of you overcame so much and that it took a very long time. my follow up appt. is in a month and that is just too long to wait and wonder. he seems like a great doctor (i'd certainly recommend him) so i know i will get my answers, but i just can't wait over a month from now! and it didn't even cross my mind to try to get in sooner via cancellation, duh. :) thanks!

I had forgotten that you were on a challenge before the test. It is likely the issues found were a result of your challenge. Hopefully they will resolve now that you are back on the diet. I also have a hiatial hernia but it does not seem to effect me at all gluten free. I do hope you feel better soon.

A hiatal hernia was discovered in me as well, and I can definitely say I have the bruised feeling at times as well.

As a side note, I was also tested for hpylori and it came back negative...however, it was recently found in a stool test, so I don't trust the biospy tests much in that sense.

As a side note, I was also tested for hpylori and it came back negative...however, it was recently found in a stool test, so I don't trust the biospy tests much in that sense.

that's interesting about the h.pylori test results. i will bring that up. everything i researched points to an ulcer which i suppose isn't necessarily always caused by h.p. i guess right now i'm drawing my own conclusions while playing the waiting game. which is teaching me about patience for sure. haa.

When I worked in medical labs coffee grounds in the feces or stomach contents always meant blood and the occult blood test was always positive. For a few years before I was diagnosed I would sometimes pass coffee grounds in my feces. I was bleeding in my upper intestine and when I would do gall bladder flushes I would pass more. The gluten free diet helped but whenever my gall bladder would become congested with stones and 'sludge' I would have more bleeding. Some people might be advised to have their gall bladder out but after reading about gall bladder problems I decided to take the advice of other people I found in forums and books and improve the health of my whole digestive system. This has worked quite well tho it has taken the whole 4 years I have been gluten-free. What has helped me most is having the DNA marker test - it convinced me that I am sensitive to gluten even tho my lab results did not give clear results.

      I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

      Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

      Thankyou so much for your words.Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
