No.

Well, not on the West Coast anyway. April and May have been the wettest and coldest on record. It's miserable out there. I bought a new COAT today.

Here on the prairies it is finally getting green. Most trees are now leafed out. But our lawn is brownish as it is so very dry. My gardening zone is Zone 1a - an average of just 87 frost-free days per year. Yuck if you are a gardener like me! So, coming here from lush green Croatia to the odd tree here and there this week has not been pleasant. We're still getting frost at nights so most have not planted gardens yet. I plan to tomorrow.

i would eat some gluten for a million dollars. i dont know if i would eat it for a CHANCE for a million dollars. but if it was a done deal- yes. would be worth the pain. i mean- i just got glutened on sunday from PF changs- 2 nights in a row i was on a heating pad and pillows compressing my whole trunk (front side)... groaning and wishing i could have an epidural for the pain- and i didnt get crap. no money

oh and the lara bars would hurt too... same as gluten.

Wait Wait Wait!

You are all breaking the imaginary rules of my hypothetical situation. You don't have Lara Bars and you can't use your children as bait. :P

You are not prepared! You have nothing except the standard emergency kit in the cruise ship life raft which contains 3 days of drinking water, high calorie/high protein bread, some fire starting stuff, flares and a first aid kit.

There. Now what? Huh?

Can I use your children as bait? :)

Will my hub and boys be there? Can I keep my earrings and the clothes we were wearing when the ship went down?

Edit: I missed this part. We get a fire starting kit? And it's not my son M? This is fab!

I finally got around to checking and yes, we can get some in Canada! I just checked the website and am astonished at all the yummy-looking flavours available. Key lime pie? Chocolate chip cookie dough? Where have I been?

I was really sad when I found out I couldn't have Clif bars anymore. But, if I wasn't out looking for an alternative, I never would have tried Larabars!

My gent's big into backpacking and wilderness survival. Food is actually the last thing you worry about. You try to find/make drinkable water, shelter, and fire first. Number 1 cause of death in the wilderness: exposure. Most people can go a long while without food. :)

I think I will stay on dry land and stay away from deserted islands.

What if it was an island in the middle of Lake Michigan in January?

I came to this discussion very late -- I think I would do as the Donner Party did, only draw straws to see who would be bait and food :P Eat most of the short straw, reserving the rest for bait, and keep using bait for bait until you couldn't stand the thought of another bloody fish..... Ok, OK, I know these are your kids, but in the animal world sometimes the males eat the young, so we are animals.....

Totally agree! Good ideas!!

And given my experiences the past few years, I can attest to the fact that you can indeed go a long time without food,(ugh) but without hydration...YIKES!!! Ditzy head anyone???:blink:

hell, ya...I eat it for a guaranteed million too, cass...get back some of the money I spent on medical "help" the last few years

sorry about the glutening :( ....here I was thinking when I am past the 6 month mark, I would try PF Changs because everyone seems to like it so much  ....

why do you think Lara bars give you grief? just curious...

Or worse - an island in northern Alberta in January??!!

I would love to be stranded on an isolated island with my husband, away from the maddng crowds.

But to reiterate what I said earlier, I would eat gluten if my life depended on it.

As someone that has done an elimination diet ,I can testify to that :P:lol:

Most important is finding drinking water and shelter

I don't have gluten issues but if I did, I wouldn't eat it. I keep looking for survival type food and it all seems to have gluten!

dont let my experience for sure ruin your plans. my friend & i went to PF Changs TWICE in one week- 1st on a wednesday- and we ordered Singapore Street Noodles & Beef Fried Rice (off the gluten-free menu)... and it was FABULOUS !!!! SO DELISH, no problem whatsoever. we went back Sunday for the same items... plus, she had a scoop of vanilla ice cream (i did not). afterwards, we both felt more full than before.. but not sick... during the night i had pretty bad intestinal cramps that kept waking me up (but i ALSO have gluten like reactions to corn starch, potato starch, excess fructose, excess carbs... so i really wasnt too suspicious yet- she woke up nauseaus and had a rash over her chest. at this point- i thought i overdosed the starch and she got glutened from the ice cream. but my pain was RELENTLESS for a good 2-3 days... ???? but yet my forearms never itched like they do when i have trace amounts of gluten ????? so i HONESTLY am not sure i was glutened, but am suspicious, and will go talk to their manager. i wondered too if there's more Damian Cardone people in kitchens across the country??

Lara Bars bother me cause of the Dates.. too much fructose.

yikes...let's hope there aren't any more Damiens!!

Fructose causes what kind of reaction, may I ask? I'm trying to figure out why I am bloated still...I feel much better and it's not gluten doing it...but...I have a bit of a pouch going down there (I had been stick- thin preDX...

edited...scratch that... I read about fructose malabsorption...I don't think that's it..!maybe I am just gaining weight :D

My son, M, wants to know when we are going to this island? He is looking forward to it. Sounds relaxing. He & his dad are spending a week in northern Minnisota/Canada canoeing and camping. They may not even see anyone but their little group of 9 for the whole time. They must catch fish or they will be hungry because they can't carry much food.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!
