I don't see anything to be concerned about.

it looks fine to me too. I don't think I've ever seen gluten in plain old bacon.

I've seen gluten in bacon here in Canada (labelled as wheat). Cannot recall the brand, though...

Newtoitall Enthusiast

alright thanks for confirming it for me guys =)

You might want to check the smoke, actually. I know liquid smoke can be a gluten issue (can't recall why at the moment, but it's even on the list of offending foods here at celiac.com.). I wonder if this smoke might have processing or ingredients in it that are gluten derived, or if it's perfectly fine.

The poster is in Canada. In Canada, "smoke" is "generated from the direct combustion of hardwood, hardwood sawdust or corn cobs." Open Original Shared Link

So in the US, is Liquid Smoke ok or not? I don't see anything scary on the label.

Never seen gluten in liquid smoke. Can't imagine why it might be a problem.

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—

@GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.

Thanks to both of you for your responses!  Sadly, even after several years of very strict gluten avoidance, I remember the symptoms well enough that I am too frightened to risk a gluten challenge— heartbeat and breathing problems are scary— Scott, thank you for the specific information— I will call around in the new year to see if I can find anyone. In the meantime, I will carry on has I have been— it’s working! Thanks also for the validation— sometimes I just feel crushed by disbelief. Not enough to make me eat gluten though—
