Glutened By Nailpolish

Believe it or not.. nailpolish was the culprit.

I have a not very good habit of trying to fix accidentally smudged spots on my nails by licking them.. As much as this is embarrassing to admit I thought I'd share it anyway as a warning.

Which products do you use which you know are gluten free? I'm specially curious in terms of lip gloss.. haven't dared to put any since I started.

I use Blistex Medicated Lip Balm (in the blue-green tube) and have no problem with it. I know others use Chap Stick. There are obviously more but I have no experience with them.

I use Burt's Bees for lip gloss/lip stick.

Instead of lipgloss I just use plain old vaseline. I react to chapstick as does my boyfriend. There are some cosmetic lines that are completely gluten free, and several that are partially gluten free. I suggest you use the Search engine.

For myself I have to be particularly careful since I am also salicylate sensitive, so most dyes are out.

So more than likely you can thank your lucky stars you aren't as sensitive to colorants as I am and are instead just needing things that are gluten free. At least now I know why I was never very comfortable with cosmetics. As an artist i have to use nitrile or vinyl cotton flocked gloves when I paint and be careful not to fling it everywhere. LOL!

I'm not big on make-up except for lipgloss and lipstick -- it has always been my one splurge. I pitched everything upon my diagnosis and went without until I found Red Apple Lipstick. I have been using their stuff with no problem. They are gluten free, paraben free, a bunch of other stuff free! I was not keen on ordering lipstick online since I've always liked to see it in the past but I gave it a try and I haven't been sorry. I really love the stuff. They've also recently introduced a balm that is very nice -- I bought three and have one at home and one in my purse and a backup because I just know I'm going to loose the one in my purse (it has happened in the past!) I've also used the Neutrogena Naturals lipbalm with no problems.

Both Burt's bees and Chap Stick brands may be cross contaminated, don't use them. However the whole Soft lips brand is gluten free, their whole factory is gluten free.
