Celiac, Cleaning, And Dust

I figure, that dust must have gluten in it, since dust is just a collection of clothes and skin particles and are larger than 20ppm. Also, clothes and skin particles have gluten (since one washes clothes with gluten-containing detergents and one wears these clothes on their skin), so dust has gluten in it.

So is it safe to be cleaning an area with a lot of dust in it and with dust floating in the air?

Really not a concern. I don't think most, if any, detergents have gluten ingredients. I use a detergent free of perfumes and dyes but that is because of allergies to some scents. If you have a dust allergy then dusting may bother you but I doubt that dust would be a gluten risk other than flour dust.

ppm is a concentration, not a particle size. Parts per million. Plus, it is parts per million of gluten that makes celiacs sick, not parts of dust particles.

We have dust allergies in our family. It is important to clean regularly and frequently so that dust doesn't build up.

Also, as the last poster said, there is unlikely to be gluten in your laundry detergent and on your skin particles.

You could still use it as an excuse to hire someone else to do the cleaning. :P

Paranoia can be your friend, and it can be your enemy!

I forgot to mention in my last post that if you by chance have an allergy to dust or other particles like pet hair etc. a mask can be helpful. You can get them in most hardware store in the paint dept. Before I went gluten free I had awful allergies to dust and just about everything else, (98 out of 99 things tested for :o ) and I did find it helped. Don't need one anymore though thankfully.

I have a dust allergy and it sure builds up fast here. I find that the more often I clean, the better I feel. Other than that, dust really shouldn't be a concern.

You can relax about gluten in dust.

Thank you for all the excellent information. I moved from Wyoming to California. May be its where I am located but So far none of the Costco Kirkland brand I have looked at is labeled gluten free. Same with the Sam's Members Mark. The Kirkland nuts you mention all say they are processed in a plant that processes wheat.  I am going to keep checking. Thank you. The Azure Market looks promising 😁 Take care S

I’m glad you have a clear answer.  Some endoscopes have enough magnification for the doctor to see the damage during the procedure.

Welcome to the club!😉 This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):

I could not find the thread, but I recall at least one user who was drinking regular gluten beer daily but getting celiac blood tests done often (I think it was monthly) and doing a biopsy each year and all celiac disease tests were always negative. Everyone is different, but in general regular beer would be considered low gluten (not gluten-free!). I have no issues with Daura Damm, but those who are super sensitive might.
