Old El Paso Anyone?

Just wondering if the Old El Paso taco seasoning (powder) is gluten-free? I read the label, I *think* it's ok, just wondering if anyone had any experience with it. Burritos have been a quick fave for our family for awhile, and it would be nice to know I could still have it with corn flour tacos or something!

I think the jar is better. If I recall, the powder has msg and some react to that.

Old El Paso is a brand that will clearly list wheat,rye,barley,oats right on the label or it will be ok.

One other brand that is safe is Ortega. Someone also told me that Beritos is safe but I am not sure on that one.

Thanks everyone! I've never had any problem with MSG myself, then again, never had any problem with gluten either......

I get thrown by things like "hydrogenated vegetable oil" and stuff like that. You are all helping me learn! Thank God for this place!

As a matter of fact, I haven't had any problems with that. I've used McCormick taco seasoning, just this week too. No problems with that brand.

The seasoning is gluten-free, but I've started having issues with it since going gluten-free and I think a lot of other people here have to.

Like Kaiti said, they will clearly indicate gluten on their ingredient list. I eat Old El Paso taco seasoning, corn taco's and salsa without any problems. Just make sure you always read the ingredient list, as products can change.

Hi,

I find it easier just to make my own taco seasoning mix. It's simple and you know what's in it!

This makes the equivilent of 1 1/4 oz package taco seasoning mix:

1 Tablespoon minced dried onions (can omit if you use fresh onions)

2 teaspoons chili powder

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 tsp cornstarch (to thicken - I usuall omit this entirely)

1 teaspoon cumin

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or more if you like it HOT)

stir to blend. Use the same amount of water you would use with the packaged stuff. My son loves tacos and even he'll mix up a batch when he's in the mood for them! :D

I read the package today also and thought that it seemed ok....I do know that in past research I discover most of the McCormick individual seasonings to be gluten-free and have used their taco mix for some time now. They have it posted on a website when I researched it.

      Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

      Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have.It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

      @Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
