ARCHIVED Natural Medicine For Healing
oceangirl replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi! Well, this isn't a medicine, as such, but there is nothing for depression like running or dance class! I know that probably sounds trite and inane, but, as a runner for 27 years and a dancer for 25, if I don't do these things, I tend to become very depressed. I run every day but only 2 miles. Many "hard core" runners have asked me why I don't increase... -
I, too, have just started using the PLAIN McCormick spices. So far, so good. Maybe it's something else? I have all the same intolerances as you, by the way, and avoid those foods. (Air tastes good, eh?) lisa

Hi! I wanted to add that while I have been tested positive for 2 of Dr. Fine's gluten sensitivity genes and have a very positive response to the gluten-free diet, my Gastro wouldn't diagnose celiac because of an inconclusive biopsy as well. This was after 3 months gluten-free and positive bloodwork while gluten-free! However! I just saw my regular physician...

ARCHIVED Mysteriously Sick
oceangirl replied to rwygle1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
r Hi and welcome. I'm sorry about your food situation and I don't know about the metamucil. Like you, I react to EVERYTHING it seems and I have been gluten-free for about 6 months now. I would continue to just eat fresh meats, fish, shellfish- if you can- fruits and veggies for awhile. Perhaps stop the eggs. Then, ever so SLOWLY, one thing at a time... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results Came In
oceangirl replied to AliceW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Vitamin C/ascorbic Acid- One Not Corn-based? Help!
oceangirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, so I'd really like to get some extra C back in my diet and the Ascorbic acid (powder) I was using is derived from corn, another intolerance. Does anyone know where/how I can get some C in supplement form that would NOT be corn-based and also gluten, soy, dairy, sorbitol-free. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I also have not been having citrus fruit... -
ARCHIVED How Long Back On Gluten Before Blood Tests Are Accurate?
oceangirl replied to dennymel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and welcome, I think it's difficult to say and I am no expert. I guess it depends how long it takes for the antibodies to show up in your blood. How long were you off gluten? I'm sorry I can't be more help. Good luck to you and let us know your results. lisa -
ARCHIVED Canola Oil
oceangirl replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Back From Endoscopy-colonoscopy
oceangirl replied to breann6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! I, too, had a "weak" positive after 2 and 1 half MONTHS gluten-free. (tTg= 28, normal is 0 to 19) Endoscopy inconclusive so Gastro dismissed me and I was on my way. Eeeekkkk!!! Went through Enterolab and was positive for gluten-reactivity (after 4 months supposedly gluten-free-missed some) and 2 genes for gluten intolerance. Positive dietary response... -
Does anyone react to canola oil? It's on my "spread-sheet" of potential problems. I know it's supposedly fine, gluten-wise, but... Thank you. lisa

ARCHIVED Help! No Potato Chips?! (lectin Problem?) Replacement?
oceangirl replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions. No, I don't eat corn, dairy, soy or gluten so it feels tricky. I will look for the Terra chips. Happygirl, thank you for the website! Tiffany, thanks for the dehydrater idea. I guess the rice cakes might be the way to go right now. Have a great day! lisa -
ARCHIVED For Those Also With Dry Hands..
oceangirl replied to num1habsfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, AND those foolish anti-bacterial soaps are finally getting the press they deserve- they only contribute to bacterial resistance to antibiotics! We NEED to be exposed to a few germs. I've refused to jump on the anti-bacterial bandwagon because it doesn't make sense to me. Those hints for dry hands, though, are all greatly appreciated. I'm still using... -
ARCHIVED Help! No Potato Chips?! (lectin Problem?) Replacement?
oceangirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi everyone. I think I am having to concede to having a problem with lectins right now. Cape Cod potato chips were my "safety" food at work. (Meaning, when hungry and in a mad rush, could have those as a starch and filler) But my food log being run through a statistical analysis by my spousal-equivalent is showing them to be highly suspect. I already... -
ARCHIVED Starting A Gluten-free Diet
oceangirl replied to janie-b's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome, Janie. I have nothing brilliant to add but would echo others that, if you choose not to go the traditional "Western Medicine" route, getting the gluten out should tell you a lot. One thing that seems clear to me in my now nine- month odyssey of researching gluten, is: NOT ENOUGH RESEARCH HAS BEEN DONE ON THIS ISSUE!!! I think the tide is turning... -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Still Coming Back Positive--help!
oceangirl replied to jmengert's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
eKatherine, Thank you for that. I will look for that at a pet food store. I am getting a little tired of seeing the glutenous dogfood strewn all over the kitchen floor! Thanks. lisa -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Still Coming Back Positive--help!
oceangirl replied to jmengert's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Julie, If you're still reading this, thank you for this thread. I just had my panel rerun after 5?ish months gluten-free and my tTg is positive again. Low, but, what the heck? I am also experiencing symptoms and, like you, cannot find the culprit. I think the people who advised using nothing processed for awhile have a good point. I am going to try... -

ARCHIVED Quinoa Pasta
oceangirl replied to imalissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi! I might suspect the dinner out before the quinoa. It's so hard to know! I am one of those with a delayed reaction so it's quite fun trying to figure it out! Corn bothers me as well, so I am gluten, corn, soy and dairy- free presently. Hoping to try cheese someday. Good luck to you. lisa -
ARCHIVED A Question About Gluten Intolerance V. Celiac
oceangirl replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Elizabeth, Ooh, I don't know but it seems there have been people on here talking about their thyroid issues. Do you have a knowledgable celiac/intolerance doctor? It seems you should check with a doctor. Sorry I'm not more help- maybe someone else will post. lisa -
ARCHIVED Ground Beef Troubles? Help, Anyone!
oceangirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I wonder if anyone has had issues with gound beef as opposed to steak? Meaning- is it possible they use the machines on other things that may pose cc issues? I have a vague correlation with ground beef- eating and feeling glutened. I only eat meat from a farm in Maine that uses no antibiotics or growth hormones and la, la... Thank you in advance... -
ARCHIVED A Question About Gluten Intolerance V. Celiac
oceangirl replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, Elizabeth! I had an endo and colonoscopy after being mostly gluten-free for 3 months and they were negative. I, too, did a gluten challenge, but lasted only three days as the pain was so severe I almost went to the hospital. I was "diagnosed" by Enterolab as "having two genes for gluten intolerance." (same as Carla- DQ1,1 subtypes 5, 6) No one can... -
Yes,as well. Actually, after never having much in the way of cramps, they are quite hideous now leading up to my period. And much worse digestive issues. I am peri-menopausal and have a 6cm fibroid- don't know if that's not helping much. I do think hormones are making eating issues even wackier. lisa
