				ARCHIVED Fresh Produce
Looking for answers replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do! I get veggie wash from Trader Joes, a local health-food chain. It's made of natural ingredients and uses the power of citrus acid to sterilize produce. I love it! All you have to do is soak your produce in the solution for a few minutes and viola!, your food is ready to go. I especially love that it takes the wax residue off of non-organic fruits and... -

				ARCHIVED Increased Sensitivity To Gluten?
Looking for answers replied to Mike44's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been wheat-free for years but just started adhering to a strict gluten-free diet about a month ago. This past weekend I drank my normal smoothie from the mall and got glutened big time. I can definitely attest that for many of us the symptoms get worse. I was sick for the remainder of the weekend and felt like I was hit by a train. Not fun! -

				ARCHIVED Hypoglycemia...need Help!
Looking for answers replied to Ksmith's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, Research shows that hypoglycemia can be caused by gluten intolerance. In fact, I was just reading about this in "Dangerous Grains." I don't know how long (or if) you've been gluten free, but it takes time to alleviate hypoglycemia. I noticed a huge improvement within the first month, but I also really try to avoid processed foods and sugar. For the... -

ARCHIVED I Need To Lose Weight
Looking for answers replied to BamBam's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree, I have the same problem. If I don't have protein in the morning than I will get shaky and feel sick to my stomach. However, my friend eats only fruit in the morning and is completely fine. So, figure out what works for you! I totally agree! You have to read the book to really know how balanced this "diet" is. It's terrifically healthy and... -

				ARCHIVED Heavy Periods
Looking for answers replied to Looking for answers's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I want to thank all of you who posted replies so far . . . it's comferting to know that there are others who have/ had similar issues. I now have hope that I can discontinue using BCPs. And if for some reason this dosen't work, maybe skipping the placebos, and therefore my period, will be an option. Thanks everyone for the support and help! -

				ARCHIVED Heavy Periods
Looking for answers posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Ladies-- When I was younger, my periods were so heavy and intense that my doctor put me on BCPs at age 15!!! When I say heavy, I mean heavy . . . using both a pad and tampon at the same time, I could only go one to two hours before I would bleed through my clothes. I also had severe cramping and PMS issues. I'm now 28 and am thinking about getting... -

				ARCHIVED Mind Chatter.....
Looking for answers replied to draeko's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know what you mean, I used to have that too. . . to the point that my quality of life was severly suffering. Going gluten free, not eating processed food (for the most part) and avoiding sugar were BIG helps. Also, I can't tell you how much I improved after taking the right vitamins. My homopathetic doctor prescribed the following and it really, really... -

ARCHIVED The Gift Baskets Are Starting
Looking for answers replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Think of the calories we all save! It's so much more difficult for us to make and get snack foods that we won't spend the whole month of January burning off our holiday mistakes. Ahhhh . . . aren't we lucky! -

ARCHIVED Nutrition Drinks - I Am Starving Here!
Looking for answers replied to angst2amity's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This might work: Open Original Shared Link Someone once recommended it on this site so I ordered some. It's yummy and very easy to digest. They sell it online and I've also seen it Whole Foods and Henry's. My best to you! -

ARCHIVED Bloated Stomach - Will It Go Away?
Looking for answers replied to Ltrain917's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had the same problem and noticed a HUGE difference in my stomach when I went gluten-free. Since it sounds like you have lots of damage to repair, be patient with seeing results. Once your intestines are no longer inflamed, your stomach should shrink back down to normal size. Oh, and taking accidolphilus and enzymes have helped significantly. -

				ARCHIVED Severe Constipation
Looking for answers replied to madison's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I suffered from horrible C for years and years and going gluten free has relieved it. I was never diagnosed with Celiac Disease (because I had been wheat free when I had my tests done), but I know I'm gluten intolerant based on dietary reactions. If the diet is helping you feel better, I say stick with regardless of your test results. Wheat, Rye... -

				ARCHIVED Cold All The Time
Looking for answers replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can sympathize. I've always been super cold, and in fact I'm sitting under an electric blanket as I type this! I was so embarrased one time when I acutally wore long johns to a club I went to with friends--and I live in Orange County, Calif where it never gets too cold. It hurts so bad when I'm cold that my mind feels like it shutting down and I get really... -

ARCHIVED I Was So Proud Of Myself
Looking for answers replied to Pink-Bunny's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey! Yeah, I agree with others, your grams' behavior is disrespectful. Stay strong. There's no way she can deny the fact that you are feeling better and getting healthy. Keep educating yourself as much as possible about gluten intolerance . . . as they say, knowledge is power! -

				ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
Looking for answers replied to Mike44's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome! My advice is to take one step at a time and get as many books on the subject as possible. I'm currently reading "Dangerous Grains" and I just finished "Living Gluten Free for Dummies" (or something to that effect). I find the more informed you are, the more driven you are to adhere to a strict diet. Best to you! -

ARCHIVED Before Going gluten-free Was Anyone Else Always Hungry?
Looking for answers replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with others, as I was constantly hungry before going gluten free. I would eat and then go through my kitchen cabinets to try to find something to satisfy me. Sometimes I would eat two or three small meals after dinner, trying desperately to make the urge to eat go away . . . but it never would. Trust me when I say that going gluten free is a lot... -
Don't shoot the messenger, but you might want to consider avoiding soy for a while too, at least until your stomach heals. I noticed that I'm just as sensitive to soy as I am to dairy, but I'm hoping that someday I'll be able to eat both again (with any luck!). If you want to try soy out, I can recommend the slices sold at Trader Joes--can't think of the...

ARCHIVED What Are Your Staples In The Kitchen?
Looking for answers replied to Pink-Bunny's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Lots of fresh vegetables, including bagged and washed salads. We make a large container of rice and chicken at the beginning of the week and eat it whenever we need a fast meal. Also, I keep a loaf of gluten-free bread in the freezer that I use to make toast on occasion. Peanut butter has become essential and so has beans and gluten-free pasta. We tend to... -

				ARCHIVED Funny Scent In Nose
Looking for answers replied to Kaycee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This may be far off from what you are experiencing, but my homeopathic doc said this could sometimes be caused by having too many heavy metals in your body. May be something to think about if you eat a lot of fish, especially canned tuna, or are exposed through drinking water, etc. I had the same trouble and have been taking selenium daily for the past year... -
Hi! I thought I was gluten free for the past six months (been wheat-free for almost a year) but after coming to this site I learned that I was still eating hidden sources of gluten all the time. Over the past month, I've been trying to adhere to a strict no-gluten diet. However, recently I've noticed that I've become very sensitive to corn. After eating...

				ARCHIVED Natural Medicine For Healing
Looking for answers replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I take acidophilus and enzymes to help repair my intestinal track. For anxiety and depression, I've turned to under-the-tongue Vitamin B tablets, two-four of Omega 3 pills, and calcium supplements daily. These were recommended by a homeopathic doctor and have helped greatly. You could also try 5 HTP, which makes typtophan (sp?), a precursor to serotonin... -

				ARCHIVED Withdrawal Symptoms?
Looking for answers replied to elaine33's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, If it becomes too ovewhelming, you may want to refer to a book called The Diet Cure by Julia Ross. I read it when I was going through withdrawals, and the supplements she recommended helped me tremendously. Good luck!
