ARCHIVED New Mystery Illness
plantime replied to btshea's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds like you might have an intestinal infection. The inflammation and white cells are the indicators I am looking at. Perhaps a round of antibiotics with something for yeast infection might help. -
ARCHIVED Dark Circles Anyone?!
plantime replied to digmom1014's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I get the allergy shiners constantly. I don't use makeup on an everyday basis, but I do have Bare Minerals for special occasions. -
ARCHIVED How Are You Preparing For The Economic Collapse?
plantime replied to GregC's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I live in farm territory, and all of the farmers are saying that the weather forecast for winter will be terribly cold. After last year's ice storms, I have been stockpiling food and drinks. I don't drive on ice or snow, so I need to have enough food to last in the event I can't get to a store for a couple of weeks. I think such preparation is necessary... -
ARCHIVED Swollen Joint From Celiac?
plantime replied to Lisa16's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I get extremely painful swollen joints when I eat gluten. Nothing ever shows up on any tests. I think it is just part of my reaction to gluten. -
I have to have my bedroom very cold at night to prevent the nightsweats. DH works overseas, but when he is home, he sleeps in another room. It is just too cold for him!

ARCHIVED Wake Up 3-4 Times Every Night
plantime replied to Leslie C.'s topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I use a liquid B-complex, and it helps me immensely. I have also discovered that whenever my intestinal tract is upset, my sleep is disturbed. Celiac reactions to gluten upset my tract, and I just don't get good sleep after a glutening. -
ARCHIVED Ww Core Plan Question Please Respond
plantime replied to disneyfan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I do a modified form of the Core plan. I don't use any fat-free products except for the yogurt I make my smoothies with. I eat smaller amounts of the regular foods, and severely limit the junk. By severely limiting the junk, I mean I only use 20-25 of the weekly flex points. I don't count the flex points for my regular food. To make limiting my portion... -
ARCHIVED Walmart
plantime replied to almostnrn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been buying glutenfree foods from Wal Mart since shortly after I was diagnosed three years ago. I don't buy specialty foods there, just mainstream like canned vegetables and fruits. -
I worked parttime when my kids were little. I also did the childcare thing. Something to keep in mind if you do childcare is that probably half of the parents out there don't pay their bill. I got stiffed so much it put me out of business. As for selling on Ebay, I buy. Period. I seem to be a Ebay-shopping-junkie.

ARCHIVED Gallbladder
plantime replied to JustMe75's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When my son had appendicitis, the surgeon said that intestinal inflammation will cause bacteria to become trapped in the appendix and/or the gall bladder, causing severe problems. I have wondered since then if that is what has happened to many celiacs. My gall bladder was removed in 2004. -
ARCHIVED Help! Desperately Seeking Advice And Support!
plantime replied to tgrand's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You'll get the most understanding and cooperation from people that have to restrict what they eat. If your family doesn't have food issues, they just won't completely understand. The good ones do their best, the worst ones don't even try. Just buy your own food for that week. Keep your meals simple, and try to relax. -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Here Rh-negative?
plantime replied to Ellenor Whitty's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am O-. I feel much better on a high-protein/low-grain diet. -
ARCHIVED The Neighbors Teen Kids!
plantime replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Please do keep us posted. Also, be very careful yourself. -
Kraft will clearly list all gluten ingredients on the label. You will get conflicting answers even from us veterans, so you need to also do your own research.

If anyone is interested, Weight Watchers now has a Dietary Restrictions message board where several overweight celiacs meet to discuss recipes and problems.

I was a Girl Scout leader for several years. In my troops, we always accomodated food problems. Several of the girls earned badges for the work they did setting up special menus and researching food-related illnesses. There is no reason whatsoever that Scout camps should not work out a menu plan for a celiac child.

ARCHIVED What Vitamin/ Mineral Supplements Do People Take?
plantime replied to hathor's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I use powdered magnesium, 1/4 tsp each night in my juice. Magnesium helps the bowel retain fluid, which makes it easier to poop. If you took yours for a few days, then had diarrhea, it probably took that long for enough liquid to build up to move what was in the bowel. Once you are cleaned out, you should be able to cut back your intake to a maintenance... -
ARCHIVED Mary Kay?
plantime replied to pineahead's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mary Kay uses a lot of herbs in their makeup. While these herbs are excellent for most people, they make me break out in horrible hives and swell unbelievably. -
ARCHIVED What To Expect With Antidepressants?
plantime replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would think that 5 weeks should have been plenty of time. It sounds like your side effects are worse than they should be, so I recommend talking to your doctor. Something you need to be aware of is that certain painkillers do not go with Paxil and other SSRIs. Utram used with Paxil puts one at a high risk of serotonin syndrome, so make sure you double... -
You can always do what I did: click on each board and read every thread that looks interesting. Of course, there were far fewer posts when I joined! You can ask the same questions for the umpteenth billion time, and someone will still answer.

ARCHIVED Should I Push?
plantime replied to sarahelizabeth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Insist his docs run the tests. They are not near as bad as docs claim they are, and the diet is not even close to as bad. If your docs absolutely refuse to do the tests, then go glutenfree for him, and see if he gets better. -
ARCHIVED Pantene.
plantime replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Pantene with no problems. I have started adding two drops of tea tree oil to the shampoo in my hand, and my dandruff and itch problems cleared up, too. -

Thanks for the link, Cheri. I ordered one. I had been looking at the ones in Wal Mart, but it seemed like just one more thing to throw away.

ARCHIVED Good Herb For C ?
plantime replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I use cat's claw and hawthorne berry capsules. Not the extract ones, the ones that are whole herb crushed and put into capsule shells. They have a bit of magnesium in them, but I find that using the herbs helps me more than using plain magnesium. I have used milk thistle, but it caused painful cramping.
