  1. My non-celiac husband I both love the spice cake/carrot cake.
  2. I agree. They are quite possibly the best gluten-free food available IMHO. My husband prefers them over gluten brownies. I've taken them to parties on several occasions and never bothered to mention they were gluten-free and everyone commented on how good they were.
  3. Hi there, here are the lists for Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  4. I eat Trader Joe's Albacore. It's one of the few without soy.
  5. You're not alone. I've had a similar response to oats on several occasions. It is a real shame because I love oats but they don't love me!
  6. Hi Tsunami, the gluten-free Open Original Shared Link come in MRE-style packages that might do the trick. Trader Joe's also has a few things like pre-cooked rice, tuna, etc. Thai Kitchen also has quite a few items that might work for a backpacking trip. There is always canned soup and vegetables.
  7. Log Cabin used to be formulated with barley. Does anyone know if that has changed or is this a case like Rice Dream where it can now be labeled gluten-free?
  8. LOL! The best advice I've received from our trainer is that it's much easier for you to learn to speak dog than to teach your dog to speak human. It's not a natural instinct for a dog to mess in their crate so my guess is something is going on with the schedule or the environment. Small puppies will mess in their crate if they have too much space. Try blocking...
  9. You could try buying the raw ingredients in bulk and making your own mixes as you need. This will allow for a little flexibility because a cake recipe might be different than a bread recipe and I think it's a lot harder to use the same gluten-free mix for everything. I probably have 10 different gluten-free flours and starches in my pantry. Betty Hagman...
  10. I've seen quite a few brands of powdered sugar that say gluten-free on the bag. The one thing about powdered sugar is that it is cut with cornstarch and a lot of people with corn issues can't handle it. Nielsen-Massey and McCormick pure vanilla is gluten-free. I contacted McCormick about their imitation butter flavor and it is also gluten-free and I think...
  11. LOL! Right now ours are in our basement garage. We started out using paper towels in the brooder and now have them on wood shavings which has added to the dust. They are adorable but I'll be very happy to see them move out to the coop. I too rope my husband into feeding all of the animals and know he would take care of it but I am just not comfortable...
  12. Yeah we have a lot of chickens! We eat a lot of eggs so we wanted to make sure we had enough and then several family members wanted eggs (we do a lot of bartering in my extended family) so when we added it up 36 seemed to be the golden number. My grandparents and neighbors always kept chickens so I'm pretty familar with the adult birds but the chicks are...
  13. So, last week we got 3 dozen baby chicks. They are awesome and doing quite well. Problem is I can't find chicken starter/feed that doesn't contain some kind of gluten grain and was hoping someone had a solution. I have had an all too familar knot in my stomach that appeared shortly after their arrival and I haven't left my house or changed my diet so...
  14. I think special food is discretionary meaning it is up to your company to decide whether it can be considered a medical expense. I doubt you would be able to buy the groceries with your FSA card though. Most likely you'd need to file for reimbursement and itemize. You should call your HR department and/or plan administrator and ask.
  15. There are tons of opinions on this subject so the best advice is to figure out what works for you and your family. Here's my .02. I should note that our house is gluten-free except for the occasional frozen pizza for my husband when I don't cook. Should we get new toothbrushes? yes How about a new washing up bowl? Is a dishwasher enough...
  16. Hi ABQ, You can try to contact the Albuquerque support group. They may be able to refer you to doctor in Albuquerque that can help you. 17. I have tried to re-introduce them several times and just don't tolerate them which is a real shame because I love oats...
  18. Have you had your thyroid and liver checked recently? It could be an indication that you have hypothyroidism or something going on with your liver.
  19. You should probably call the company and ask about the source of the brewer's yeast as it isn't always gluten-free. I checked the Wise allergen chart and it says the onion rings don't "contain Wheat Gluten". I'm thinking the brewer's yeast that is a by-product of the brewing industry is barley and the Wise allergen statement doesn't mention anything about...
  20. I don't tolerate wheat starch and have to be very careful when in Europe. I personally have no use for products made with wheat starch because there are many completely gluten-free products that taste just as good, if not better, and don't make me ill but like trillumhunter says you'll find people on both sides.
  21. Hi Susie, yes I do have thyroid problems. I have Hashimoto's and before I was diagnosed my TSH was 3.8 and I was breaking out horribly. It took 5 years to find a Dr who understood that I had thyroid problems and make the connection. grrr... My skin completely cleared within a few days of starting Armour and I only break out now when I get exposed to gluten...
  22. I'm going out of town next week and need to send my hosts a shopping list. I'm looking for brand names of capers and kalamata olives that are available at Whole Foods. Thanks much!
  23. There is a health food store in Solvang called New Frontier that carries tons of gluten-free stuff. They also have a cafe and I believe they have gluten-free stuff on the menu there. I've eaten successfully several times at the Alisal in Solvang and at a cafe in Los Olivos. I can't remember the name but it's located at the corner of Alamo Pintado and Grand...
  24. Have you had your thyroid checked recently? Acne can be a sign of hypo.
  25. I've noticed that a lot of chili powders have an anti-caking agent and you could be having some reaction to whatever chemical they are using for that. I have non-gluten issues with spice combos like chili powder but am fine when I use the same individual spices so I'm thinking it's something to do with the anti-caking agent.
