ARCHIVED Tired Of The Same Old Things
JNBunnie1 replied to AkBravo34's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi zkat, I don't want to sound irritating but I must confess to being curious as to how you manage a peanut butter & jelly sandwich with no bread...... -
Hi Jackie and Jess, I know exactly how you feel. Except for me, I was underweight my whole life, I used to be the girl in high school that teachers would bug me asking if I had an eating disorder. When I got 'sick' (meaning the sudden onset of GI symptoms) I started losing weight even more. I'm 5'7'' and I weighed 105 at one point. Which actually looks even...

ARCHIVED Help Needed For Newbie
JNBunnie1 replied to kdean823's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you're a casserole person, I'd say meatloaf and roast chicken will be your best friends. I've seen a few meatloaf recipes made with rice instead of bread crumbs. For recipe ideas, what I did was go to Allrecipes and type 'gluten free' in the search function. You'll get all kinds of stuff, from nachos to pie. There's also a recipe section on the homepage... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of The Same Old Things
JNBunnie1 replied to AkBravo34's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My easy, quick standby is eggs. You can add almost anything, or have them over-easy with toast. I like scrambled with cheese and diced tomatos and avocados. My other easy quick dinner is hot dogs. My favorite is the coleman brand. -
For me personally, I know it's not a glutening if it only happens once. If it's painful and I get nauseous and it keeps going all day, then I know I've been 'violated'. You probably have other sypmtoms too when you get glutened, right? And trust me, non-celiacs DEFINITELY get diarhea sometimes. My boyfriend, case in point.....

See, I had no positive tests at all. They did an intestinal biopsy, it was 'negative' (I'd only been actively sick for six months, so duh) and they didn't do any of the blood tests. I actually learned about Celiac disease by reading Dr. Jordan Rubin's book the Maker's Diet. Which had a lot of unrelated stuff, but it had a little about celiac, so I tried it...

ARCHIVED Do Other People's Comments Bother You?
JNBunnie1 replied to NWLAX36Mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My favorite came from my boyfriend's mother. A few weeks ago we had Easter dinner and I had to actually show her on the label for the glaze on the ham (that she dug out of the trash) where it had dangerous stuff. We went back two weeks laer and she offered me a sandwich. Maybe SHE has brain fog. Anyway, I think it's actually very sweet when people I'm... -
I have a good one. I have always worn glasses, since second grade. My vision is so poor that without my glasses, I literally can't walk around unfamiliar places without assistance. One day I went to go look for my glasses, spent about five minutes frantically searching, AND THEY WERE ON MY FACE. Yeah. I know what you mean about the brain fog..... I also...

ARCHIVED Freakishly Hungry.
JNBunnie1 replied to sansglutengrl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh wow! me too!!! I used to be the little girl babysitters didnt want to have come back because I ate all their food. And I was always underweight too. I still eat more than normal people, but I finally started to gain weight when my stress level went down after a few years. But I finally stopped being RAVENOUSLY hungry after I started added lots of good... -
jmd, have you checked to see if your cipro is gluten-free? And maybe mention to the doctors that if it's been four months maybe IT'S NOT WORKING!?!?!?!

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the feedback.

Does everyone use a different sponge for gluten-y dishes in their sink? My boyfriend and I were just discussing this, and I've been learning things lately being new to the forum, that I'd never known, about second-hand gluten (lol). I'd prefer to refrain from 'suicide'bombing'' myself, so does anyone have any advice? Should we can the sponge, or will the...

JNBunnie1 replied to rmmadden's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup, me too! The fever was what really puzzled the doc before my (self) diagnosis. I used to flat pass out. -

You know what lucky? This may sound really strange, but I think you should stop worrying about quitting smoking for now. Give yourself a break. You've just lost a bunch of food in your diet, (and it really is a LOSS) and now you have to deal with your thyroid being imbalanced. I don't know much about thyroid disease, I don't know if smoking affects it, but... -
ARCHIVED New And Need Some Guidance
JNBunnie1 replied to Ary's Mama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There's actually a Glutino AND a Glutano. Isn't that irritating? I'm pretty sure Glutino is European. And don't worry Ary's mama, I don't honestly think he would get worse per se. Maybe some people have had a different experience than me, but I got marginally better immediately, I didn't have a detox period. Of course, I'm only myself, maybe people who were... -
Ok, sorry, I just figured out the 'AFAIK' thing, sorry, it takes me forever to figure out the internet acronyms. And actually, historically, people didn't really drink milk. They ate cheese and fermented their dairy, not much straight milk. That's more of a product of commercialization. Goat's milk will still be the best for you, but raw cow's is better than...

What exactly is AFAIK cow milk? And my recommendation was for goat's milk. It is, however, out of some people's price range. And certainly preferable to soy milk......

ARCHIVED New And Need Some Guidance
JNBunnie1 replied to Ary's Mama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Adina! Welcome to the board. Are you comfortable sharing the general area where you live? A number of us are quite versed in finding health food stores online. Beyond that, if you're looking for bread products, there's a brand called Chebe that has wonderful mixes, and here on the celiac website is the gluten-free mall, with lots of great stuff. NoGluGirl... -
Azul, I would second everyone here about reducing if not eliminating your dairy intake, and never allowing it to reach that point again. Milk should not be taking the place of necessary water in your diet, you should be providing your body with clean water all day. On the other hand, after you've given your body some time to repair, I higly recommedn RAW...

ARCHIVED Feeling bad (what Else Is New)
JNBunnie1 replied to luckygfme's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi lucky, I just have to say that you may have the best attitude I've seen out there. You've decided to help yourself and learn everything you have to to make yourself better. Just because you need to vent sometimes (and this is the BEST place to do it!) doesn't mean you have a bad attitude. I think you're taking far better care of yourself than most people... -
