ARCHIVED Kefir Lovers/ Is Storebought Okay?
JNBunnie1 replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi oceangirl, at most health food stores you can find a kefir starter. I would suggest you try it first with RAW goat's milk procured from a local farm. It's expensive, but much less likely to piss off your system. Only do this if you don't have a compromised immune system though, by which I mean AIDs or recent chemotherapy or anything of the sort. Raw dairy... -
ARCHIVED My Gluten Free Wedding Reception
JNBunnie1 replied to laurelfla's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Laurel. How about a 'salad' reception? Tuna salad, chicken salad, (rice) pasta salad, three bean salad, cole slaw, fermented veggie salad, egg salad, green salad, tomato mozz salad, potato salad, german potato salad, fruit salad, ambrosia, jello salad. The word salad is starting to look funny, isn't it? Most of this stuff is low-mess and cold to boot.... -

ARCHIVED 10 Good Things About Celiac
JNBunnie1 replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hear hear!!!! Isn't it lovely to be able to cook? MY favorite thing about Celiac: All my life people have thought I was anorexic and school counselors would try to 'talk' to me about it- until they saw me eating in the lunchroom! Without running to the bathroom after! When I was really sick with Celiac a few years ago, I was under 110 lbs and I'm ... -
sure! What I'm planning to do is start a bit of a project and put a bunch of stuff on my profile. I'll start a new thread too once I get some stuff together. My dad's a professional chef (when he's not fighitng leukemia) and he's always willing to answer my questions, and I've come up with some great stuff lately. My honest favorites are roasted chicken legs...

ARCHIVED Large Intestine Was Too Swollen To Finish Colonoscopy
JNBunnie1 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, raven, you poor thing that's awful. I had one done to test for damage and Celiac a few years ago (I hadnt been sick long enough for the Celiac to be pos and I'm certainly not trying again!) But they gav me Versed and Fentanyl, I was awake as well. These drugs are called 'twilight sedation' and quite rarely will they use true 'general anesthesia' for a... -
Sunny, I would try to eat as much fat as possible. I know it sounds strange, but it will help heal your insides, presuming you don't have a gallbladder isssue. Try avocados if they don't piss off your stomach, lots of eggs, chicken with the skin on, lots of raw olive or coconut oils that you put on the food after its cooked. And some probitotics and enzymes...

Hi Marisa, you'll find way too much advice here! My suggestions are to eat gentle food, like baked chicken and ground beef dinners and lots of well-cooked veggies. They'll be easier for you to digest right now than raw. If you feel a reaction to raw fruit, it's always easy to throw it in a pyrex dish and put some cinnamon and honey on top and bake it tender...

HAHAHAHAHA!!! You know, I think I had a deaf guest make that sign at me at work once. I worked in a hotel. I'm pretty sure it was in reference to one of my coworkers... heh heh heh.... On another note, has anyone noticed how RECENT of a disease this is? I honestly think it's only really been around for about 150 years. Funny how it came along with...

Hello to all our new members! You're in the right place! For now, everyone is right about being nice to your body. Laying off the dairy is a good idea. Also try to find a gentle probiotic at your local health food store, the clerks are usually quite willling to call and find out if they're gluten free if it doesn't say on the label. While you're at the health...

ARCHIVED What Causes The Aftertaste?
JNBunnie1 replied to brendygirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi, it's probably the combo of arrowroot and vanilla, or just the arrowroot. I think I've noticed that before, very strange when you use it in gravy and you taste licorice.... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Chip Cookies....
JNBunnie1 replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've added pudding mix to lots of things before, especially cake. Yellow and chocolate cake, and stuff like pumpkin or spice cake too. For the 'bread' cakes I'll usually add a chunk of sour cream too, it always comes out so incredibly yummy and dense and moist. I never thought of cookies though, I so have to try that..... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Buy A Crockpot Recently?
JNBunnie1 replied to Cheri A's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have two different size crockpots from brand name 'Rival' that have always worked superbly for me. Don't you just love these things? I think we got ours at Walmart. -
ARCHIVED Best Cake Mixes
JNBunnie1 replied to delawaregirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm in love with the Gluten-free Pantry mixes, I've had the yellow cake mix and I thought it was divine. I haven't had opportunity to try the Namaste ones yet, we don't really have cake all that often. I'll be trying the Gluten-free Pantry angel food cake mix for my birthday soon, I'll let you know how that goes. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Chocolate Cake In Everyday Food Magazine
JNBunnie1 replied to skoki-mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Holiday, I found this one on the website here and found it to be very much more like a pudding than a cake. It was very mild and chocolatey and very yummy, looks just like those bread puddings at those country buffets. It's also egg-free for those who need it, and I suppose you could sub almond milk or something as well. Hot Fudge Cake 1 cup gluten... -
I have to bring something up that's very unpleasant, however unlikely. Has any of your doctors considered MS?

ARCHIVED Need Advice About Going Back To Work As A Teacher...
JNBunnie1 replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just some unrelated advice- Tinkyada has a much better texture and flavor, in my opinion, than Deboles. Just an idea! And there might be some cc issues with the corn chips, I don't eat them though, so I don't know. Someone else might have some experience with that. -
ARCHIVED Need Advice About Going Back To Work As A Teacher...
JNBunnie1 replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Walter, I think it might be a good idea for you to have a test done for heavy metal toxicity in your system. It sounds like you eat a lot of fish, and there's not really any 'safe' fish left in the world. Maybe north atlantic salmon, but that's about it. And give it a little time, you'e just been diagnosed! You'll get better, we promise! -
ARCHIVED Am I The Only Blusher?
JNBunnie1 replied to UR Groovy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, it's really hard to embarass me (try growing up with my dad) but I blush when I get nervous. Like if I'm at work and a customer is yelling at me. Does that happen to anyone else? -

Um, I never tried the specific carbohydrate diet, I just went crazy with protein and healthy fats at one point and felt way better. You know, all organic produce, organic beef and chicken (and lots of it!) Lots of avocado and coconut oil, eggs and raw olive oil, lots of raw milk and yogurt. I have to admit I healed faster than a lot of people, with less effects...

Promethazine is an anti-nausea medication that's quite effective, I used to take it before I figured out my Celiac. I don't have symptoms as bad as NoGluGirl when I'm glutened so i haven't had to use it since I got 'better', but it works quite well for people with bad nausea after a glutening, if you can get it down. It will make you very sleepy though, you...

ARCHIVED Parties And Eating At Friends' Houses
JNBunnie1 replied to MumInOz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
'We live on Gluten-Free Island' MuminOz, That is the best thing I ever heard! That is so freakin adorable, I'm going to start saying that! As for advice about eating at friend's houses, I've found that salad is usually the safest thing out there. Meat always has a sauce, casseroles always have flour, but salad is easy, just call ahead and ask the...
