  1. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-19107121139.04 Celiac.com 04/10/2005 - Celiac disease is, by definition, a condition in which the intestinal wall is damaged as a result of eating gluten. It is a chronic illness in which the symptoms wax and wane1 for reasons that are not yet understood. Celiac disease is the result of genetic and environmental...
  2. I think Celiac brings up all of those pressures to make sure your family is "just like everyone else". Particularly for those in the family that feel responsible for the genes handed down (parents) or those that want to "fit in" and not be different. For me, I didn't care that much about fitting in when I was a teen and my brother thought that was extremely...
  3. I use my tortilla press to make tortillas and mini pizza crusts (with Chebe dough). Most of the time I buy corn tortillas but I live in Texas, so finding fresh tortillas is not a problem. I've had the same tortilla press for over 20 years so it's not a new gadget for me.
  4. I should have added that I had my thyroid tested during this period and it was within the normal range. However, when I stopped taking kelp, the cold spells returned. I don't know exactly what was going on because at diagnosis, I was very deficient in iron, B vitamins, and folic acid (that they tested for) and who knows what I may have been deficient in...
  5. Pre-diagnosis, I joked about having "cold flashes" instead of hot flashes because I'd get so bone chilling cold and the only thing that would make it go away was soup or something hot to drink. Since I was overweight then and remain so, I don't think it was a weight issue. Then I found out that taking kelp supplements helped stop the cold flashes. ...
  6. I'd get the dog to the vet ASAP. This doesn't sound like something I'd be willing to do a DIY diagnosis on. There could be other key symptoms that a vet would catch that you might not like glandular issue, kidney problems, bowel obstruction.

    ARCHIVED Doctor Won't Test Son

Ditto on the minor symptoms. Or as an elderly person told me one time "All good things in life must pass, the bad things hang around and you keep inventory." I hadn't realized how many things I had added to the list of "ignore it and go on" until it wasn't there. My Mom's doc wouldn't test her because she was asymptomatic and overweight. Her only symptom...
  8. I just finished making tuna salad (tuna, mayo and pico de gallo) and realized that I hadn't mentioned the sealed packages of meat that are available when I posted comments the last someone asked about travel food. But now you can take along packs of tuna, chicken or salmon that don't require a can opener. I have lemon pepper tuna steaks, BBQ chicken breast...
  9. When my sis (wheat intolerant and maybe Celiac) and my Mom (Celiac) had surgery, we gave both of them the same "kit" for soup. 1 ziploc of cooked ground beef 1 ziploc of grilled chicken breast cubed 1 ziploc of Tinkyada penne pasta, tossed with a bit of EV olive oil to keep it from sticking 1 ziploc of prepared brown rice 1 bag of Parmesan Cheese...
  10. There are many products I use that have this type of CYA warning and, given the extreme reactions for some nut allergies, I can appreciate why they would do it. BTW, if it's just chocolate milk you're after, Hershey's Syrup Special Dark has no soy in it. I just happened to have a bottle near the computer (thanks to Hubby) and it lists the following...
  11. My favorite place is Amazon because I've been shopping there for ages for other stuff. They have a lot of gluten-free stuff and I get my GFP mixes there (Namaste is cheaper at Whole Foods) I order the rice shown below because you can add a cup of frozen veggies and a chicken breast or burger to it to make a one dish meal. Lundberg Chicken Herb RiceXpress...
  12. I can tell you that in my pre-Celiac days, my doc was beginning to talk about gallblader surgery until one day when I missed my usual lunch of a yogurt shake and didn't get sick. I don't know what is in it but it made me sick and 2 others in my office can't eat it. Everyone else loves the stuff. I don't think it was dairy or gluten because I was asymptomatic...
  13. It struck me as ironic to read this while eating fast food from Wendy's... A sour cream baked potato and a small chili - $2.00 Who say eating out gluten-free has to be expensive? :-)
  14. Thanks for that link. It led me to their new ingredients list... Open Original Shared Link
  15. Speaking as one that carried a bottle of Ginko in my travel bag for months before I remembered to take it, I know it can be a problem. Step one is making sure you are taking all you should be Step two is getting it down your throat I've learned to be very regular about taking my supplements and I deal with step one by having an index card that I...
  16. Have you tried the butter flavored sprays? they can be pretty good on some things. Instead of buttering your veggies, try squeezing a slice of lemon over them -- really wakes up the flavor.
  17. Just realized I forgot to mention overdosing on coffee, too much coffee will definitely cause it.
  18. I know I posted this article elsewhere, but your doc needs to read it. If your doc placed you on a gluten-free diet and you've been following it, you won't test positive for Celiac -- and he should know that. ------ How long must gluten be taken for the serological tests to be meaningful? 19. Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Food Tax Deduction Info This deduction is for diagnosed celiacs only. Please keep in mind that you may be audited by the IRS should you attempt this deduction...document everything! https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-56107425130.04
  20. My dentist gave me a free sample of Colgate Total that had Triclosan in it (like the stuff they put in anti-bacterial soap). It is gluten-free but it broke my mouth out and when I told her, she said she didn't like it personally but her patients liked getting free samples so she hands them out. Hmmm. I've had the same reaction from tarter control toothpast...
  21. If you're trying to lose weight, I should tell you that the AltiPlano Gold instant quinoa is 5 grams of fiber per serving. My Mom is on Weight Watchers and she likes to have the it for dinner because it's very filling and the variety pak has some really yummy flavors. The only places I've found it is a local health food store and online at Open Original...
  22. Replace anything porous. In addition to everything else mentioned, if you have a pizza stone, get a new one. If you have a cast iron skillet, re-season it. I keep Lundberg Chicken Herb RiceXpress and Lundberg Santa Fe Grill RiceXpress on hand for quick "hamburger helper" type of meals. Toss in some canned chicken and mixed veggies and you have an instant...
  23. Lots of things can cause D, not just gluten. Stress, viruses, spicy food and everyone has their own individual triggers too. Too much pancake syrup will do me in.
  24. I don't think the doc knows what he's talking about. Two weeks might not do it and I can't see doing it for two miserable months. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-37107464234.9e How long must gluten be taken for the serological tests to be meaningful?
