ravenwoodglass replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"The study found that the Nexvax2 vaccine was well-tolerated, although people who received larger doses experienced problems more often with nausea and vomiting; seven of the 19 subjects receiving medium and large doses of the vaccine reported nausea, including two who took anti-emetics and two who vomited after the first dose, and one subject receiving the... -

ARCHIVED And The Results Are In...
ravenwoodglass replied to Whatnext?'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes you should get your children tested and also tell your Mother and Father and any brothers or sisters to be tested also. There are some of us who have a mixed house but others who have made their homes a gluten free zone. I am one of the latter. If you do allow the house to be mixed do take the needed precautions like a new dedicated toaster, replace scratched... -
ARCHIVED Completed Endoscopy
ravenwoodglass replied to jemms's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you have antibodies you already have a definate yes even if the biopsies are normal. Damage can be patchy or can be in an area that is beyond the reach of the scope. Do follow your doctors advice and start the diet strictly as you do need to be on it. -
Steroids might be helpful if you get severe inflammation in your muscles and joints when glutened. Prednisone helped me a great deal the few times I took it before I was diagnosed. I would get a ten day course about once or twice a year for my DH when it got so severe that it covered my whole body. However it did nothing to relieve the D and other gut effects...

ARCHIVED Celiac Vaccine Anyone?
ravenwoodglass replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No thanks. I'll stick to the diet that has no side effects and that I know is working. I've taken enough drugs in my lifetime already and had a few that were pulled off the market because it was discovered after folks had been on them for years that they were not safe. -
ARCHIVED How To 'break The News'?
ravenwoodglass replied to Annaatje's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just tell people that I have celiac, sometimes I will just say food allergies as people understand that better, and I will bring my own food or eat before the event. Takala, I went through the same thing a few months ago when my DD was married. She had said she just wanted me to eat beforehand as she didn't think they could feed me safely at the reception... -
ARCHIVED I Let Dh Talk Me Into Something Dumb
ravenwoodglass replied to Poppi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sometimes it takes seeing the after effects of a glutening to make a 'believer' out of our loved ones. It doesn't sound like something he will attempt again so in the long run it does appear it was worth it. Glad he's got a good understanding now. -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Be Confused With AS?
ravenwoodglass replied to kiki2005's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If your blood test was positive you have celiac. It sounds like the diet is helping you a great deal so keep with it. I only expected my gut issues to go away gluten free and was shocked when my arthritis went away also. Glad your having such good improvement and I hope it continues. -
ARCHIVED Chapped/cracked And Tingling Lips
ravenwoodglass replied to xxkristin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The cracks in the corners of the mouth are an indication of the need for more of the B vitamins. I would suggest a vitamin that is a 'Stress' vitamin which will have high levels of B's and C. Keep taking the sublingual B12. Also drop the lip product. Don't know if it is the case for you but soy in addition to gluten will make my lips peel and be raw. I found... -
ARCHIVED Best Vit D To Take?
ravenwoodglass replied to AmandaD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I started with the NOW D3 5000 also. I now take those once a week and on the other days I take the NOW 1000 and vit K-2 combo pill. For me the addition of the K seems to have helped with a skin discoloration that I have had for a while. No idea what it is or why the K is helping but if I skip them for a few days in a row the red splotches (looks like bleeding... -
ARCHIVED Cancer, Chemo, Gluten Ughhh
ravenwoodglass replied to fran641's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You may not have won the lottery, yet..., but you are a winner in many other ways. It takes a lot of strength to get through what you have gotten through and you can beat the gluten monster. Wishing you the best and sending good thoughts your way. -
ARCHIVED I Did A Really Dumb Thing And Drank Some Beer.. So Sick
ravenwoodglass replied to asickdaddy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
And if your still feeling under the weather if you send your wife in maybe even with the kids in tow and she can play 'helpless female' (even if she isn't) the pick and pull might even remove the part for her for nothing but a smile and a bit of gratitude. (I know that sounds sexist but since I am female hopefully no one will be offended) Oh and do... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Question
ravenwoodglass replied to 2johndeereboys's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would make sure if he does one procedure he does the other at the same time with it. There are folks who have had negative blood tests that have had positive biopsies and it is much less expensive to have the procedures both done at the same time. -
ARCHIVED Did I Just Gluten Myself? Gas X Chewables
ravenwoodglass replied to sreese68's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you are starting a gluten challenge this morning you won't be able to tell if you are reacting to the GasX or the gluten. In addition to do a gluten challenge you need to eat gluten at least 3 times a day for a week or until you react if you react sooner. It can take up to a week for a reaction to set in. How long have you been gluten free? It can take... -
ARCHIVED Alive
ravenwoodglass replied to larry mac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
With wheat and barley grass in these I wouldn't touch them. I would also personally avoid the 'Gluten Defense' product. I always wonder about people who have only one post and it is to tell us a certain product is great for us and advise us to buy it. Especially when they are reviving a thread that is a couple years old. That's just me though. -
ARCHIVED Cancer, Chemo, Gluten Ughhh
ravenwoodglass replied to fran641's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well I am going to put this bluntly. Lymphoma is one of the cancers associated with undiagnosed celiac. You are putting yourself at risk of the cancer returning by going off the gluten free diet. You HAVE to stop eating gluten. As mentioned gluten can be an addictive substance for us. If you continue to have trouble staying gluten free a counselor may be... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Question
ravenwoodglass replied to 2johndeereboys's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives with both blood and biopsy are pretty common. If one is positive it is positive though and if your blood tests are positive it is up to you whether you want to have an endoscopy or not. If you are not done testing wait until all celiac testing you choose to have before trying the diet and do give the diet a try no matter what the test results... -
ARCHIVED Question About Genetic Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to luckymomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it is possible to have celiac with that genetic result. It is also possible to have celiac with many other genes. As far as the company not giving you the full results, well you have a legal right to them so don't ask for them tell them that you want them. And yes you can have celiac without having a positive blood test. False negative blood and biopsy... -
ARCHIVED Question About Spices & Chemicals
ravenwoodglass replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You say you can not tolerate casien and whey both of which are milk products. I agree with the other poster that you should try eliminating dairy for a while and see if it helps. If your system could not tolerate casien it can not tolerate milk even if organic. You could try some of the other milks like Rice Milk, but not Rice Dream as that is not gluten... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Today, Realition To Gastritis?
ravenwoodglass replied to ruca55's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gastritis is not uncommon with celiac. Also celiac can be triggered by surgery, illness or other stresses. We also seem to have many that have issues with the gallbladder. Myself included although mine resolved after I went on the diet. Do give the diet a good strict try after all your testing is done even if the results are negative. -
ARCHIVED I Did A Really Dumb Thing And Drank Some Beer.. So Sick
ravenwoodglass replied to asickdaddy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Honda Civics are cars that are most often stolen but just that part seems an odd part to steal. I agree with your thinking that maybe it was removed when it was repaired after the accident and not replaced. Have you gone back to that shop to talk to the repair guy? Or if it is an easy part to remove without putting the car on a lift perhaps some kid who had... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing In Relatives And Children
ravenwoodglass replied to bincongo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes asymptomatic people can show up in blood tests. However if your child is constantlyly constipated she isn't asymptomatic. Some of us have bad C for years before we develop D. Gut symptoms are also not the only symptoms of celiac, bone and muscle pain, headaches, moodiness, growth issues, weight issues (both to little and too much), learning difficulties... -
ARCHIVED We All Get Discrimination From Normal People !
ravenwoodglass replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like the way you put this "Being a disabled person is not the end of the world but, the beggining of a whole new world and, a new way of seeing that world." Even though we are different that doesn't make us any less valuable. It often makes us think more of others who are also a bit different and more likely to not judge people by appearances or the... -
ARCHIVED Go Back On Gluten Or Not
ravenwoodglass replied to SAVANNAH21's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Negative blood work or biopsies are pretty common. If either is positive you have a diagnosis. Personally I wouldn't even bother with a second opinion. Stay gluten free and consider yourself diagnosed.
