  1. I agree with your doctor but you may see results sooner. When you get the B12 supplements get the sublingual form as the ones in the swallowed pills are not going to be able to be absorbed. The sublingual will go directly into your bloodstream.
  2. The suggestions from the previous poster were good ones. Birthdays can be hard for many of us for different reasons. I am a twinless twin and it is very hard to not go to a dark place every year and I do just what the previous poster suggested. I go to a funny movie, go shopping for something I don't need, spend the day in my garden or at a museum, go to...
  3. While gluten can not pass through intact skin it can pass through mucous membranes. There are some places where a gluten swab or suppository is used either rectally or orally and then the area is biopsied to check for the antibodies instead of the months long gluten challenge that is used here. Since we need to stop the antibody reaction it is IMHO a good...
  4. There was a recent article linking asthma and celiac that stated that the inflammation that we get is thought to be the cause of the asthma. I also had my asthma symptoms go away gluten free. Haven't had to use my inhalor or take singulair in a very long time now. If you do a search using the words celiac and asthma you should be able to find the article...
  5. Hi and welcome to the board. It does take some time to heal and it can be a big change. Do check out the restaurant section of the board for suggestions for safe places to eat. It is best to eat as much whole food as you can. Make sure you get a new toaster and replace your pasta strainer, wooden utensils and cutting boards and any scratched nonstick pans...
  6. You will also find vitamins and supplements with wheat and barley grass labeled as gluten free. Personally I won't touch anything with those or brewers yeast.
  7. I unfortunately have to agree with this. I do hope the skin biopsy is successful if you decide to do it. A DH diagnosis is a diagnosis of celiac. Make sure that the derm you use is knowledgeable about DH and does the biopsy correctly. They have to biopsy the skin next to the active lesions not the lesions themselves.
  8. Yes do get them tested now and retest if they develop problems down the line. Celiac can be triggered at any age. If there are already growth, behavior or digestive issues then a trial of the diet should be considered even if they test negative as children have an even higher rate of false negatives than adults.
  9. Some of us have had our celiac triggered by an illness like mono. If it is in the early stages you might have a false negative on testing.
  10. What a neat idea! My kids would have loved it. Might even find the girls are more interested in that project than the nailpainting and hairdos.
  11. Most are fine. Personally I go for the ones that are all fruit like Polaners.
  12. I would avoid oats for now. After you have healed a bit then go ahead and try the certified gluten free oats, eat them every day for a week and watch for a reaction. Some of us are fine with soy but some of us aren't. In the beginning it is a good idea to avoid soy and dairy as those are a couple of the things most likely to be an issue with us. After you...
  13. You had a positive blood test and your endo showed damage that thankfully has not progressed too far yet. Yes you are celiac and yes you do need to follow the diet. You are having symptoms, the GERD and reflux and the damage will only get worse from here if you ignore the diagnosis. Ask any questions you need to and read as much as you can here. I know it...
  14. Go ahead and stomp around a bit and scream into a pillow, unless you live in the country and have no neighbors then you can drop the pillow. If you are like most of us you will be accidentally glutened in the future and you may find that is enough impetous to remain gluten free. As you said the only thing you can do to get that 'firm diagnosis' is...
  15. Great thought. If you have an acupuncturist near you and you haven't tried it you may want to try a couple of sessions. I found them to be very helpful even before I went gluten free. I don't know why it worked but it did. My guy used a combo of the needles and heat lamps. I have livedo reticularis and was purple before diagnosis. I would lay down on the...
  16. I sure do wish we could just flip some switch and be instantly healed. Glad to hear you are making some progress and it will continue. Not being able to sleep is hard and while I admire your determination to get up and moving, and we do need to do that, if you can sleep do sleep. Sleep helps the body heal and if it means getting up a bit later for a bit there...
  17. Have you checked all those vitamins and your meds to be certain they are gluten free? Read all ingredients even if the say gluten free since some may still contain wheat and barley grass and you don't want those. It can take some time for hair loss to resolve and stress can contribute to it. Starting the gluten-free diet with all we have to do and all the...
  18. I would ask them to test at least your daughter now no matter what your test results. Some of us do become addicted to gluten and that might be what is causing her strong preference for gluten foods. After everyone is done with testing you might want to make the whole house gluten free at least for a while to see if it helps.
  19. Welcome to the board. You do sound like you could be one of us. After you get your test results you should try the diet for at least a couple of months no matter what the results since false negatives are not uncommon. Ask any questions you need to while you are waiting to start the diet. I hope your feeling better soon.
  20. You need to keep in mind that there can be false negatives even on a regular gluten filled diet. After all celiac related testing is done give the diet a good strict try.
  21. If you were gluten free or gluten light then that would make the tests a false negative. Even on a full gluten diet people can still show false negatives on blood tests. The only way to really fully rule out whether gluten is an issue is to take it strictly out of our diets for a couple of months. If you have been gluten free or gluten light make sure you...
  22. I will have to check that out. I wonder what they will have and what the prices will be like.
  23. That is not a question that I can really answer. One thing you could do is ask the GP to run a total IGA so that you have that test done when you see the GI. Some doctors will diagnose based on positive blood work but others will only diagnose with a postive endo.
  24. I hope you bounce back quickly. Sounds like your body is telling you being gluten free is the right thing.
  25. Can you take Pepto Bismal liquid? If you can that might help. I'm sorry you had such and awful experience. Your not alone on that. I had the same problem when I had the procedures done with my ex-GI. They didn't use an anesthesiologist the GI doctor did the drugs and the experience was horrible. My new GI had a good anesthesiologist put me under when he did...
