  1. There is, IMHO no reason not to do both procedures at the same time, except that he will be paid for two procedures, the person who does the anesthesia will be able to charge twice, the room will be able to bill for two procedures etc. He should have ordered the blood tests the day you saw him, there is no reason to wait until after the lower scope is done...
  2. Has the doctor stressed to your parents that they also need to be screened for celiac? It is strongly genetic. The reason that your Mom has such a penchant for fast food and quick prepackaged stuff may be that she is celiac herself and just generally feeling awful all the time. I know that before I was diagnosed I barely had the energy to eat let alone cook...
  3. Good suggestions but if your new to the diet it would be a good idea to hold off on oat products for a bit as some of us react to them. After someone is well healed then challenge with the oats to be sure they are tolerated.
  4. No need to apologize it is daunting at first. Many of us have shared your frustration.
  5. Have you had any stool samples done to rule out a food or bacterial infection? If not do call your doctor and insist on them. I had salmonella for over 3 weeks with the doctor just telling me that my IBS (this was prediagnosis for celiac) was just acting up when it really was salmonella. That should be your first step in trying to stop this. If your D is...
  6. My doctors and some of my family thought I was a hypocondriac also, at least until they saw the difference in me gluten free. 6 months after I was finally diagnosed they all agreed to listen to me and get tested also as doctors advise. The outcome of that is in my signature. Glad we were able to be helpful and I hope you are feeling great soon.
  7. I may be reading this wrong but it sounds like he only did one biopsy that would have been looking for celiac not the 6 from different areas in the small intestine that are advised. It sounds like the diet is going to save you from having to deal with the gallbladder issues. Thats really a good sign. Your recurrance of symptoms when you challenged with gluten...
  8. Open Original Shared Link According to their website cocoa puffs may contain wheat ingredients. I have included a link to the page where you can find a listing of the cereals. They do make some gluten free cereals and they will say gluten free on the box.
  9. Gluten can enter the system through any mucous membranes. Some are more sensitive than others and do try to avoid toiletries even if they are not eaten. To the OP I am a sensitive and I would use this mascara with no gluten concerns. I usually use Maybelline, the one in the pink tube, that is safe for us also.
  10. The antibodies have to build in the body to a pretty high level to be detected. You could try the blood panel and see what the results are, maybe it will show positive or a real low positive. If it comes back negative and you really feel you need a doctor derived diagnosis then keep eating gluten for a couple months more and retest. Do be aware that false...
  11. Since my asthma has been one of things in total remission since I went gluten free this doesn't surprise me at all. Many times asthma is linked to inflammation and since celiac causes inflammation in much more than just the GI tract it is likely linked to many other inflammatory disorders as well.
  12. Do replace those meds as even a small amount of gluten will keep the antibodies active. It would also be a good idea to give up dairy until you are well healed as the same areas damaged by celiac help us to digest dairy. Once you are well healed then add dairy back in starting with low lactose dairy like yogurt and hard cheeses like cheddar.
  13. A person should of course keep in mind that other issues could be present in addition to celiac. Some of those other issues could also be related directly to celiac though. After celiac testing is done no matter what the results a trial of the diet is in order. Eating gluten free will only effect the outcome of celiac testing and if problems continue then...
  14. The thick form of barium is usually not gluten free. I have had two scans since I was finally diagnosed and they do, as she said, have gluten free barium. It is clear and with mine they mixed it with cranberry juice. I didn't have the horrible aftereffects that I have had with the thick gluteny barium that I had been given before. With one test I didn't even...
  15. Even though your partial test was negative your gluten challenge has been positive. You have a choice, either continue on the gluten challenge for a couple more months and get a complete panel done or go by your positive challenge and go gluten free.
  16. Get complete copies of your records, highlight that you had asked to be tested for celiac and any notes about your reaction to the challenge that you did and also whether he requested, advised the challenge or was told you were doing one for diagnosis. Then send copies of those records to the head of his dept, the medical board in your state and your insurance...
  17. Go back on gluten today and stay on it until all your tests are done.
  18. According to the website they are processed in a facility that does use wheat. It may be a cross contamination issue. The ones I looked at had whey in them, are you sensitive to dairy?
  19. It does take some time to heal. What are you eating other than rice? You should be trying to stick with whole unprocessed foods in the beginning. Dropping the soy milk is a good idea for right now as some of us do react to that also. Try a rice milk, almond milk or hemp milk. Do NOT go with Rice Dream, Pacific makes some safe milks and if you have a Wegmans...
  20. With blood work as strongly positive as yours and a family history of celiac it is really up to you whether you want to biopsy. Keep in mind that you could still have a false negative on the biopsy and will need to go strictly gluten free no matter what the biopsy results are. If you are going to biopsy you need to go back on gluten immediately. You can start...
  21. If you have been off gluten for long enough to get well healed you should go back on for about 3 months. However if you felt good gluten free and are miserable back on gluten you really have your answer.
  22. Suave makes a kids combo shampoo and body wash that is nice and gluten free, they will list all gluten ingredients pretty clearly. Dove will also and there are others. If you like organic Giovanni hair care was gluten free last I checked but I haven't use it in a while so you should read the labels if you go for that. Shikai also makes some good gluten free...
  23. Have you had the blood test yet? If you have had all the testing for celiac your going to have you can go ahead and start the diet. You don't have to wait for the results. If you do wait for the results be sure to give the diet a try even if they are negative.
  24. Are you using iodized salt? If you are get some that is uniodized and make sure any supplements he is taking does not have iodine. Cut down or cut out seafood for now also. Iodine keeps the antibodies active in the skin. You need to be avoiding wheat, rye, barley and oats and that includes barley malt. If you go to the main page here you can find lists of...
  25. Well I did choose the dye option. I did think about using the semipermanent color but when I have dyed my hair before the white hair was really resistant so I just went with the Garneir permanent dye. I did use a slightly lighter color than my almost black natural color and it didn't turn out bad at all. Thanks for your input everyone. Well I do now feel...
