  1. That is not uncommon when we first go gluten free. Your body is craving nutrients so be sure to eat a lot of good whole foods. If you haven't already you may want delete or strongly limit dairy for a month or two. That may help the bloating. Hope you heal quickly.
  2. Welcome to the board. If you can't or don't want to get the endo then just stay gluten free and see how your symptoms improve and then get the blood tests redone and see if the antibodies have gone down. Be aware that if you are celiac as you heal it may impact your absorption of any meds you take. keep on the lookout for any symptoms that might be related...
  3. This remended me of something. In some places the waitress station also has the bread for the tables. The waitress station also can have the water pitchers and glasses. I had consumed almost a full glass of water at one of those establishments before I noticed the couple of crumbs floating in the glass. Since then in a restaurant or bar I always try to order...
  4. Has a doctor seen her in the midst of one of her gluten reactions? If not take her to either her neurologist, as an emergency appointment, or take her to the ER. You say she was doing well until glutened. This shows clearly that the issue is gluten. It might help to keep a record of her food consumption and any symptoms. That can be shown to her doctors...
  5. Her ped can order a celiac panel to check if her antibodies have gone down. If she still has symptoms then another scope might be needed to check how well she is healing.
  6. Some doctors will give an 'official' diagnosis based on positive blood work and symptoms if after rechecking the bloods after a few months gluten free they have decreased and symptoms have been or are resolving. I was diagnosed without a biopsy because one doctor told me never to touch gluten again and the GI then demanded a challenge and my reaction was...
  7. While I am not a doctor it does sound like you are in the early stages of celiac. The DGP is quite specific to celiac and a positive is a positive. Keep eating gluten until after you see the GI then give the diet a good strict try for at least a couple months.
  8. Yes steroids will give a false negative on the DH tests. In addition many doctors will biopsy the lesions when they need to look for antibodies in the intact skin next to active lesions. There are also some times when folks with DH will have negative blood work. Don't know why. After all celiac related testing is done do give the diet a good strict try. At...
  9. Wish I could give you a hug. Unfortunately I know how that feels with Neurologists, Internists, Endocrinologists, Rheumatologists, GIs..... I got so tired of crying my drive home after refusing yet another script for Prozac. I do hope your GI can give you some answers even if it is just to rule out other possible issues. Keep on the gluten and we are here...
  10. It is too bad that so often a full panel isn't done. Glad your appointment got moved up and hopefully you will get a clearer answer from the GI. Do keep eating gluten until the celiac testing is done. Once the testing is done do give the diet a good strict try. Hang in there.
  11. I have 2 copies of DQ9. One from each parent.
  12. I was diagnosed in 2002 and I think I have had maybe 2 actual colds since then. I figured the same as you that with my immune system not having to try and 'save' me from gluten that it now is able to fight off the occasional virus. The only thing it hasn't been able to fight off is shingles. Thankfully those are clearing and I blame myself for that with...
  13. Welcome to the board. I agree with the previous posters that you are very likely looking at celiac. Please do keep her on gluten until all celiac related testing is finsihed. After that do give the diet a good strict try even if the biopsies are negative. Also keep in mind that celiac is genetic so it would be a good idea to screen others in the family even...
  14. Make sure that you ask the doctor how long she has to stop the supplements before you have her levels tested and be sure to take them all with you when you have the appointment so the doctor knows what she is taking.
  15. Talk to your doctor. With your family history and symptoms he/she may be able to diagnose based on resolution of your symptoms and family history. Also check with your local hospital if it has it's own lab. Mine covered any labs at a greatly reduced cost based on a sliding fee scale. Did you have an MRI before they did the spinal? Celiacs with neuro...
  16. You don't need to worry about work as far as hugs, hand shaking, feeding others etc as long as you wash your own hands before you eat. The concern with the make-up and your wife being a gluten eater is more intamite contact like kissing on the lips etc.
  17. Why would that make you homebound? Your pets will likely be healthier, there are a lot of gluten free makeups and toiletries available and you may discover many that you are using already are safe. It is possible to become more sensitive and there are a lot of pain in the butt precautions we have to take but it is worth it in the end to get our health...
  18. You really need to go with the celiac panel rather than just genetic testing. However you mention being on a number of drugs so do be aware that if you are taking any form of steroid like prednisone that will impact the celiac panel and DH biopsy. You may want to have your Mom get a celiac screening also. After seeing lots of doctors before diagnosis...
  19. Celiac put me into a premature menapause and after being gluten free for a couple months I did start spotting. I did get scared and made an appointment with my OB/GYN. In my case it was nothing and hopefully that will be the case for you also. Celiac can really mess with our reproductive systems and stress or illness can mess us up also. I hope the nurse...
  20. You are definately not alone. I spend a good 24 hours suicidal after a glutening. Thankfully it lifts within a day but the foggy and forgetful confusion lasts a bit longer. I was hoping this effect would lessen after a few years gluten free but it hasn't. I do take comfort in the fact that I know now what causes it and that it will lift and just try to not...
  21. You may want to start your gluten challenge after your finals are over so you can get tested over the summer. If you need to be gluten free the challenge may not be a pleasent experience but diagnosis is rather important not just for you but for family members and any future children you may have. Do be sure to read the Newbie 101 thread during the meantime...
  22. Thanks everyone. I hope this is over soon. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Cool compresses seem to help the most of anything. Hope I don't end up with bald spots. Just cut my hair short a little while ago so nothing left to hide any bare places.
  23. Welcome to the board. Does she have any symptoms other than the rash? Has she had any celiac testing done? That should be your first step. Make sure that she doesn't go gluten free until testing is complete.
  24. I agree please go to your doctor and get an antibiotic as soon as you can. In addition to what Cyclinglady mentioned the area that you have the abcess can spread the infection to your brain. This is not a time for self care. By the way you may not want to tell the dentist that you have been lancing the abcess yourself. Know from personal experience it will...
  25. My doctor mentioned the vaccine. She said we need to wait until a couple months after this heals. I do think I am going to go for it when I can.
