  1. The NIH is the National Institute of Health. If you do a search putting in NIH and the product name it may come up in the results if they have a listing for the product.
  2. The NIH has a product database. You may be able to do a search of it and see if the product is listed. If it is the database will tell you what is in it and what it is derived from. Not everything is in there and in the long run it may be easier to just call the company but figured I would suggest it.
  3. It could be safe but it also could not be. If you could give us the name of the company that makes it that may help but if it is a generic they can change the starch used at any time so each time you purchase it you need to check. If you seem to be having a gluten reaction I would stop taking it until you find out. This drug is known as acetaminophen...
  4. If you have been eating this with no issues I would keep eating it. Just because a company says they can not quarantee that there is no CC doesn't mean there is. If however it makes you uncomfortable because of the risk, hummus is really easy to make yourself and it keeps well in the fridge for a couple of days.
  5. Heinz distilled vinegar is fine as it is derived from corn. It is the only one I use. I am one of those who are sensitive to distilled gluten grains in vinegar and alcohol. I always check it distilled vinegar is listed as an ingredient.
  6. Thank you so much for posting that. I missed the soy under the natural flavors, now I know why this mayo doesn't agree with me....... I had to go check my label and the label on my jar doesn't state that the flavors are soy derived. They must have realized that being an allergan it does need to be listed. I had been wondering where soy was sneaking into...
  7. I am so glad they got this figured out and that you are improving. Thanks for letting us know.
  8. There have been a couple that I remember seeing over the years that were able to stay in. You may want to do a board search with the words military and celiac to see if you can find the past posts. If memory served they were well established in their careers at diagnosis and did not have jobs that required them to be in the field living on MREs. A celiac...
  9. Anyplace with a Wegmans. They make gluten-free shopping easy and unlike many other companies they consider distilled gluten grains to not be safe, for those of us who are sensitive it makes telling if we can really eat that pickle or BBQ sauce easy. Wegmans is NY state home based but has markets in other states on the East Coast.
  10. Welcome. It is not uncommon to have the first couple of weeks be quite up and down. The constant hunger is not unusual. Give it stuff like fresh fruit and veggies, plain rice, fresh meats. Don't go overboard on the specialty gluten free treats at first. Give your body some time to heal. Your body has likely been deprived of nutrients for a while. When...
  11. It sure is. I am not ashamed to admit that brought tears to my eyes. The pain I dealt with daily and the fears produced in my children by their watching the pain that eventually was too great to hide did a lot of damage to them. To say nothing of what it did to my life. Many of us here live with that companion far too long. It will help makes things...
  12. When I was new to gluten free I would get a breakout within hours of ingestion. I found after a few years stictly gluten-free, in other words, once the antibodies left my skin, it takes a lot of gluten for me to breakout and even then it is very minor. I was very strict from the being and I stopped getting new lesions really quickly. My old lesions also...
  13. When you said the MRI showed little what was it that showed? It wasn't by any chance what they call UBO's was it? Those are diagnostic of celiac in some other countries but often thought to be nothing here. Reading your description of your pain is like reading my own prediagnosis. I can't say the same will happen for you but I have been pain and med free...
  14. I can't help with the lipitor question but I might be able to help with the pizza. Try the Gluten Free Pantry's French Bread Mix for the dough. They give the directions to make pizza dough on the back. I usually put it in the fridge for a bit to make it easier to spread and then oil the large spoon that I spread it with. It will make a deep dish pizza...
  15. If the glucose says it is derived from wheat leave it alone. If you have doubts about any product the best way to find out is to call the company and ask if there are any wheat, rye, barley or oat derived ingredients in the products. I have found it is best not to just ask if it is gluten free as in some areas the level of gluten allowed varies and some...
  16. Gosh yes. I eventually even developed arthritis that was well on it's way to destroying the joints in my hands. When glutened I often will have a recurrance of this pain in my bones and muscles although it will be short lived. Gluten can cause a lot of inflammation and it can also effect the nerve conduction. When nerve conduction is effected it can also...
  17. There is an increased risk when we have not been diagnosed. One thing to help ease your mind a bit is that that risk drops for every year that you are gluten free. After I think it is 5 years with the gluten issues under control the risk is very close to the regular populations. They can biopsy the glands if needed to tell if lymphoma is present if the...
  18. The toe walking can be a sign of a neurological problem and by now you most likely do have shortened tendons. I am wondering why your doctors haven't addressed this issue before if you have been doing this for an extended period of time. The best thing you can do is to get to a physical therapist. They can evaluate your gait, help retrain you how to walk...
  19. I just noticed this on the home page here- "A gluten-free holiday dinner starts with a gluten-free turkey. Believe it or not some brands of turkey do contain additives that are not gluten-free
  20. I am glad you feel comfortable with your phone call, myself I prefer to get my answers from their actual regulations. As with anything the choice in how safe one wants to be is an individual choice. As with any food items the safest best is the least processed. A turkey that is just that turkey is the safest. If it has a broth or additive it should be...
  21. http://www.fsis.usda.gov/FactSheets/Additi...ducts/index.asp While grain added as grain or hydrolized proteins need to be identified not all potential gluten sources need to be on the label. As with many food items it is barley malt that is our biggest risk. Barley malt is considered a flavoring agent and would not have to be identified on the label...
  22. Glad to hear he is seeing you soon. If your still worried you might want to pick up a strainer or slotted spoon at a thrift of dollar store and keep it and a disposable plastic container near the toilet. That way if it happens again you can bring the unidentified object into the office. The keratosis pilaris may very well be related. My DS had these...
  23. Usually passing a stone is VERY painful. I would not be unduly concerned about the mystery object. It may have been a bit of mucus, you are doing a challenge and your body may be trying to protect itself and excess mucous production would be one way. If you become severely ill with the challenge do make sure you let the doctor know. Some will diagnose...
  24. I agree heartily with this, natural flavors are one of the biggest risks on our labels and is where you may find barley hidden. Instead look for a turkey that is just that turkey with no broth or flavorings.
  25. Many turkeys have a broth added, that broth can contain barley hidden in natural flavors. It is true that if there is wheat in the broth that it will be listed but that is not the case for barley or malt which is the bigger risk. If you go for a turkey that is not prebasted and does not have broth on the label you should be fine.
