ARCHIVED Celiac Appalachian Trail Thruhiker!
ravenwoodglass replied to eleep's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks for posting this. His friends idea for bear repellent was great, I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants. His photos are nice also. I wish I was with him, I always wanted to do the trail. -
ARCHIVED Day 4...
ravenwoodglass replied to I3Daniel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can get it on line and it's not a bad pasta. I had horrible luck with lasagna, the noodles would be goo when I cooked them first so I decided to try it the lazy way. I brown my meats and then add one of the gluten-free Delmonte pasta sauces (the one with meat flavor is not safe but they have wheat on the label) Then I take the Tinkyada lasagna noodles... -
I hope they give you some answers. I also hope if he does have a problem that the poor kid doesn't have to be glutened for the next few months while they make you wait.

ARCHIVED Info Appreciated
ravenwoodglass replied to katbaloo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have found a great place for info and support. You may be surprised at the changes you see after a time. I know I was, I never realized how much was impacted till it wasn't any longer. Your not alone and it can be overwhelming at first but it is so worth it in the end. The diet has been shown to have a positive impact with diabetics also, just watch... -
ARCHIVED Blisters On Lips..doing Gluten Challenge..
ravenwoodglass replied to MinxyMandy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Stick with your Dove. They are safe. It is not the coloring in the soaps and shampoos and such we need to be careful of as 'Vitamin E', may be from wheat or soy, oats, wheat germ oil, and some of the vehicles for fragrances. Most products have a phone number or web site the safest thing to do with everything is to call the number. As a bonus many times... -
ARCHIVED New And Not Sure
ravenwoodglass replied to Brown213's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For both me and my DD they did. We also had severe PMS symptoms and for years I thought everyone had tummy trouble when 'that time' came. Eventually for me the tummy trouble became constant but for many years it did seem to be linked to my period. I also had unexplainable trouble concieving, it took almost 10 years before I had my first live baby. -
ARCHIVED Falling Off The Wagon (advise Please!)
ravenwoodglass replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is the lower evil of gluten that is keeping you wanting to reach into that medicine cabinet. It is plain and simple, if you want to hurt yourself go right ahead. No one can stop you but you. You have the power. You just have to want to use it. As long as you keep eating gluten periodically you will continue to feel the way you do. But YOU are the... -
ARCHIVED Info Appreciated
ravenwoodglass replied to katbaloo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to embrace the lifestyle even if the biopsies come back negative. Damage can be patchy and there is a lot of small intestine so it can be easy to miss. There are also forms of celiac/gluten intolerance that can really do some damage to other body systems long before the villi are damaged. No matter what the outcome of the biopsy you should do... -
ARCHIVED Cross-contamination
ravenwoodglass replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Carried away not at all. Not many would sit in a restaurant with someone spraying insecticide in the next booth, not much difference in my opinion. -
ARCHIVED Non-celiac Gluten Sensitivity/intolerance
ravenwoodglass replied to Chrisser's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh but that is so true it bears repeating often. -
One of the best things I have found for that horrible stomach pain is Pepto. It may not work for all but many get almost instant relief and usually I don't need a second dose. You did give your tummy an awful assalt and the rest of your system too. It will take awhile to get fully over it. If you tolerate dairy also have some yogurt to rebalance your...

Is there a Celiac Support group near her? Or perhaps a religious charity that might be able to help with this? Perhaps they could oversee as many of her meals as possible or people in the support group could volunteer to cook a little extra at dinner and bring it in to be reheated. I wonder if places like nursing homes might be open to knowledgeable...

ARCHIVED Would You Worry About Cross Contamination With Marijuana?
ravenwoodglass replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think I would worry about this with the herb itself, however you do need to be concerned with the papers that are used to roll and also about cross contamination if others are say drinking beer while smoking with you. In a pipe without sharing should not be a concern. -
ARCHIVED Non-celiac Gluten Sensitivity/intolerance
ravenwoodglass replied to Chrisser's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Or you think you can. Gluten Intolerance does not go away. If you have gluten intolerance you may heal to the point where you think gluten is safe, it is not. You have simply gone into a 'silent celiac' phase, how long it will take before the antibodies build up enough to damage your organs I can not of course say. But damage is going on. It is attacking... -
Welcome to the boards. It will take time for the antibody reaction to leave your body and brain but it will. The best thing you can do to hurry it along is for now stay away from processed mainstream food, you'll have time enough to add those in carefully after you are healed and the CC risk is high. Eat as much fresh naturally gluten free food as you...

Yes, gluten is a neurotoxin and for some celiacs depression, especially the kind that comes on quick and leaves suddenly, can be a dominat feature for years before the GI stuff shows up. The good news is that after the gluten reaction leaves your system this should be relieved without drug therapy, in fact many celiacs are not helped by meds but made worse...

You can help, you may not be able to do anything at the free lunch places (many of the poor won't go to those anyway) but there is lots you can do to help celiacs that need it. I donate to my local food bank. Many are not aware that you don't have to be homeless or on assisstance to get help at one. I donate rice, both instant and regular. I donate canned...

ARCHIVED Strange Phone Call
ravenwoodglass replied to GRUMP 1's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Good thing you didn't call that back. Most 900 numbers are the ones that charge by the minute and who knows what country it came from. They were most likely looking for a new customer. Just my guess. -
ARCHIVED Prayer Request

ARCHIVED Neurological Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenglutton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Isn't the stupidity of doctors amazing. Sometimes I think they think we are all subhuman beings who are incapable of doing anything that requires a bit of a change. Or they just don't want to lose our money. I was told the same thing when I was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. I was handed a script and told I could pretty much eat the way I... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Panel Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Tina81980's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If she has been wheat free for 3 months it most definately would impact those extrememly unreliable tests. My whole hearted suggestion would be to take the next step and go gluten free for at least a couple of months. Please don't rely just on the blood work for diagnosis, it could delay her recovery for a very, very long time while more permanent damage... -
ARCHIVED 3 Wks gluten-free And Gi Probs Worsening?
ravenwoodglass replied to SUZ42's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is going to sound like an awfully old school suggestion but have you tried drinking a glass of prune juice a day, gluten-free of course? I used to have awful problems with C and when I did go my Mom used to joke that it was rabbit pellets. For me the prune juice helped within an hour. Can't promise it will for you but figured I would mention it. -

ARCHIVED Help
ravenwoodglass replied to Aunt Poppy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms do sound much like gluten, have you tried the gluten free diet yet? Did they do an endoscopy? Celiac damage can not be found on a colonoscopy. Also the blood tests are notorious for false negatives. I am glad you are going with Enterolab and would also suggest you try the gluten-free diet for a couple months. -
ARCHIVED Old Test Results... Familiar Terms?
ravenwoodglass replied to DeerGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"Biopsies completed of stomach, antrum, duodenum -- Diffuse intestinal metaplasia. Lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate." The results of those biopsies sound very much like the results my DD had. Those were not 'normal' results. What our GI said was that while she was not celiac YET the results did show that she was being affected by it. As he said we had...
