"I don't think that is the first time you've told me that. I agree this is definitly worth a shot. I just need to get up the gumption to try it. Nightshades are a LARGE part of my diet; except eggplants. I don't see a correlation between when I eat them and when my arthritis flares up; but if i'm eating them all the time then I probably wouldn't see a correlation...

ARCHIVED Can Dh Outbreaks Be Triggered By Gluten Only?
ravenwoodglass replied to chick2ba's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
DH sores will only appear with gluten. Have you made sure to check all your lotions, soaps etc? -
ARCHIVED Dehydration
ravenwoodglass replied to Alicia M's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have they checked you for diabetes or kidney problems? Have you brought this up with your doctor? -
I know how you feel. The pain is horrible. I would have kissed my doctors feet if he gave me percocet. Becaue I was at the doctors so much they labeled me a drug seeker. I got to take baby asprin last time I tore a ligament. I have a real problem with the majority of the doctor in the US. There are good ones but they are hard to find. How long...

I can't help you with the doctor issue but I would suggest that you give the steroids a try. I have DH which was always thought to be poison ivy. Every couple months they would give me a course of steroids to clear it and it would greatly help my muscle and joint pain. The good thing to keep in mind is that as you spend longer gluten-free and get less...

ARCHIVED Pets
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Glad you are going to the humane society. I am allergic to cats, dogs and birds. I have 4 cats, 1 dog, and a parrotlet. As long as I don't let the cats sleep with me and am obbsesive about washing if I am near the bird or feed him I am fine. My little dog would die if he couldn't be at my side 24 - 7 but so far he doesn't bother me. Have fun with your... -

Glad you found good doctors but I agree with everything Nini has said. Couldn't have put it better myself. -
ARCHIVED Can 2 Negatives And A Weak + Mean Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
YES it is also possible to have all the tests come out negative and still have full blown celiac (raise my hands waving). You should get onto the diet as soon as you can and welcome to the boards. I am sure you will find them very helpful. -
ARCHIVED What Else Can Cause Lactose Intolerance Besides Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to Sarah8793's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
With your pattern of excaberating symptoms after the birth of each child I feel your problem may be the gluten. I would totally eliminate the gluten and dairy both for a while and then do a challenge with them. I was told I was lactoese intolerant for years but after 6 months gluten-free could even drink a cold glass of milk with no ill effects. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free = More Energy
ravenwoodglass replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was on 5 different scripts. I now take nothing I don't need anything We have also saved over $51,000.00 on co-pays alone in the last 3.5 years. We can buy a lot of gluten-free bread with that. -
ARCHIVED How Acurate Are Blood Tests?
ravenwoodglass replied to Agent Z's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea it does. In places that serve gluten food there is a real issue with crosscontamination. Even a crumb can make us sick. Using the same pan for our food can make us sick. Using the same grill to cook your burger and someones grilled cheese will make us sick. Until this country becomes more gluten aware, that means getting more of us diagnosed it... -
ARCHIVED How Acurate Are Blood Tests?
ravenwoodglass replied to Agent Z's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"Is it true that some Celiacs have to be more strict than others? I've heard that some can't eat food that has touched wheat" No it is not. All celiacs need to avoid all gluten in everything, period. "So I went to McDonald's with someone and ended up eatin Chicken Nuggets, fries and an Oreo McFlurrey. Nothing really happened after. So perhaps... -

ravenwoodglass replied to taz sharratt's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First off ((((((((hugs)))))))) I would go ahead and try the yogurt as a cool compress. It certainly won't hurt anything and it will most likely be soothing if nothing else. I would not let it dry on the skin just a thick layer with a cool wet towel then rinse off. I am assuming all of your lotions, shampoos and all are gluten-free as well as your food... -

ARCHIVED A Few Food Related Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Delmonte makes canned sauces that are great. The only one that is not safe is the one with meat but that is clearly marked as containing wheat. I have had no CC issues with any of their stuff. Also if you grab a can be sure to call the company and ask for their gluten-free lists. All the canned and jarred fruits including Snack cups are gluten-free. ... -
ARCHIVED Auto Immunde Diseases
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lister, if you stay Gluten Free these other autoimmune problems are not going to appear. They appear because the body is fighting the gluten response which takes place in any organ that gets blood. In attempting to protect us from the gluten our immune response starts to activate on the organs also. I believe this occurs because the gluten gets into all... -
ARCHIVED Should I Ask To Be Tested?
ravenwoodglass replied to Staciemich's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe everyone in the country from age 2 to the elderly should be tested. That said yes get tested but after they draw the blood go gluten free. Dietary response is one of the best diagnostic tools. Testing misses some of us and if your one of the lucky ones the delay can lead to a great deal of other problems. -
ARCHIVED What Is Considered A High Iga Number
ravenwoodglass replied to minibabe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As someone mentioned the reference ranges differ depending on the lab. I always came back negative on blood testing (delayed my diagnosis by many, many years) both my children and my husband had numbers that were a 'low' positive. My husbands was 11 with under 10 being negative. Many doctors would call that result a negative result. However he has gone... -
ARCHIVED Fasting For Blood Work?
ravenwoodglass replied to silvervelvet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"Now, Im doubting myself and thinking am I just too sensitive? Maybe everyone feels this way and its just normal." No everyone doesn't feel that way, it is not normal to have the problems you are having. I made the mistake of trusting my doctors for a long time that I was just 'being female' overly emotional and a hypochondriac who wanted to be sick.... -

ARCHIVED What To Do?
ravenwoodglass replied to jojoe72's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would contact your doctors office immediately and let him know what is going on. Ask for the doctor to call you back and do not downplay your symptoms. Be as grapic as you can. You can also ask for an emergency appointment on a day you have severe D. Your freqent trips to the B-room and the look of death on your face should be enough to convince them... -
ARCHIVED Tics And Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to skipper30's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Gluten can cause seizure like activity in the brain. I had problems with gluten induced tics and my DD did also. Jaybirdsmom, Interestingly my DD also lost her speech at a little over a year. All she could do was scream and bite. It turned out she had excessive fluid build up in her ears without any signs of infection. She had many sets of tubes... -
Many of us have problems with the nightshade family, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers (the veggie not the spice)and eggplant. If you get the same reaction to potatoes at home I would look into that. If the problem is only after eating in a restautant your issue is most likely the CC. I hjave a nightshade intolerance and am able to have a little bit of the...

ARCHIVED Tissue Transglutaminase Ab.iga Results
ravenwoodglass replied to BeckyW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is definately a positive result. Even an 8 is a positive result. Welcome to the boards and get thee gluten free. Ask any and all questions you need to and be assured that while things can be a bit hard to get used to at first the health benefits are well worth the initial 'getting used to it'.
