ARCHIVED Back From First Gastro Doc Appt
ravenwoodglass replied to MrsC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have been gluten free for a while make sure you let him know if you get really sick. Call and tell him whats going on and ask for an emergency opening. If you have been gluten free he may be able to make the diagnosis on your symptoms. After being gluten-free for a month my GI made me gluten overload. I was so sick we had to cancell my scope and... -
ARCHIVED Omnicef
ravenwoodglass replied to minibabe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would ask your pharmacist what comparable drugs are gluten free and then ask if she will call the doctor to change the script. If your pharmacist won't check change pharmacies it is their job. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
ravenwoodglass replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I worry about her but there is nothing more I can do. She never knew me when I was sick, I think it would help if she had. All I can do is keep her and her family in my prayers. -
ARCHIVED I Wonder Now If My Dad Was Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sure sounds like it. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
ravenwoodglass replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree we have a real problem also with the medicines that abound for GI issues. We are a nation that is taught to treat the symptoms rather than the cause. This particular website Quackwatch also deals with other issues. The focus of this was solely on colon cleansers and colonic irrigation especially. I didn't realize that colonic irrigation comes... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Explanation For Unexplained
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lister does your girlfreind wear lipsticks or glosses? Does she wear makeup, or use lotions in places you like to get close to? -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
ravenwoodglass replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I found this website, some may find it interesting. It is from Quackwatch.org and is about colon cleansing and also discusses the use of colonic irrigation. Be sure to check the list at the bottom of the companies that have lawsuits pending. I found it interesting that they also have a letter from someone who has a very different view at the very bottom... -
ARCHIVED How To Deal In A Non-gluten-free Household?
ravenwoodglass replied to tracii's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This doctor sounds like a sadist (IMHO), are you able to look for a second opinion or are you stuck with this guy. If celiac was already found why would this guy want to put you through this. Does he need a new pool? -
ARCHIVED A Slightly Obserd Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It may not be doing that type damage but that doesn't mean your body isn't saying not to injest. We can have allergies to each others bodily fluids, not common, but intolerances may be possible too. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Osteopenia
ravenwoodglass replied to cmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
In addition to the supplements recommended make sure you do some weight bearing exercises also. I have osteoporosis, it was diagnosed about 3 years ago. I've mainly done diet and exercise changes, I didn't like the possible side effects of the drugs. I'll be getting another scan soon and hope I haven't lost any ground. On the bright side I have overly... -
ARCHIVED Emotional Impact Of celiac disease
ravenwoodglass replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In my families experience the depression and anxiety are directly related to gluten. Both were present along with brain fog for years before the typical GI problems appeared. I suffered debilitating depressive episodes from a young age, when the first one hit shortly after surgery on my legs at 11 I attempted suicide and came very close to succeeding... -
ARCHIVED So When You Are Eating Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For years my D was sporatic, and before age 20 the problem was C not D. The last 10 years before diagnosis it was a daily event whenever I ate and the last 5 were the worst that was when the midnight runs started, up from 2 am till 4 am every night with severe cramps and chills and D. Everyone is different and reaction times and progression will differ... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
ravenwoodglass replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think I might add an apple a day to my diet, put some flax seeds on my cereal, eat some walnuts everyday and add some ginger to my stir frys. I have also seen barberry and slippery elm bark in 'supplement form' in my local health food store but I personally would just add the foods to my diet. It would most likely be much less expensive also. -
Hi, I finally remembered the name, it is Wilsons disease. I did a search on WebMd and this is part of what I found "Wilson's Disease Synonyms Hepatolenticular Degeneration Lenticular Degeneration, Progressive General Discussion Wilson’s disease is a rare genetic disorder characterized by excess copper stored in various body tissues, ...

Have you brought the high copper levels to the attention of her doctor? There is a condition that can cause this, I really wish I could remember the name, but it can be serious. I would not supplement her with excess copper unless I knew for sure she needed it. I also have large varicose veins and one thing I found helpful was elastic or support stocking...

ARCHIVED Poisoned At The Dentist?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mango04's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Boy can I sympathize. You need to insist that they not just print out the list but that they take the time to check it before you go back. I trusted my dentist and still continued to get sick. I later found out all they did was write celiac in my chart and did not bother to check anything. Make them put it in writing. If they won't I would take my veneers... -
ARCHIVED So Why Am I Having Symptoms Now?
ravenwoodglass replied to mamatide's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Flu huh, did you have a fever? If you didn't then I would not assume it is the flu. Sounds like a gluten reaction. You could drop the little bit of gluten you are consuming for a week or two and then challenge again to see if you have the same reaction. Celiac is genetic and there are many different presentations to it from prodominently neuro to severe... -
ARCHIVED How Common Are False Negatives?
ravenwoodglass replied to Cam's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please, please, please do not trust those negative tests. I did and now I have some permanent damage that might have healed if I had showed positive on the tests when they first did them. I have always come back negative but I clearly am celiac. It was not till I was finally diagnosed after 15 miserable years that they tested my kids, they both came back... -
ARCHIVED Maybe Hes Wrong
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I sincerely hope he is doing this under a doctors care. A detox unit is safest. That level of drinking for that many years means that he is in a lot of danger just going cold turkey. His body has gotten used to the alcohol and he risks convulsions and the DTs which can at times be life threatening. We have the typical 'male violent alcoholic pattern' that... -
ARCHIVED Just Need Some Reforcement On This
ravenwoodglass replied to Ashley's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use a temporary color that rinses out a little at a time and have learned I have to be very careful of gluten in these products as well. I also have DH and colorings with gluten additives cause my hair to fall out. Loreal makes a lot of their haircolors gluten-free and I stick with them. -
ARCHIVED Getting A Little Scared Now...
ravenwoodglass replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you already have your answer to the gluten question, your body told you. As to the trip I would go but I would eat as gluten free as I could so I would have a good trip. Even if that meant steak and baked potato every night, only wine to drink and salads and fruit. I would also pack immodium even though I am not a fan of keeping toxins in our systems... -
ARCHIVED Daughter's Enterolab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to CarlaB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you both look great. I wish my kids were still that young. And especially that they had been diagnosed then. If they had my DS would not have had such a struggle in school, his learning disabilities while still present are no where near as severe. And he also would be more than 5 ft tall at 23. I am so glad that you sent for the Enterolab tests... -
ARCHIVED Going Numb/tingles
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are you having him take the sublingual B12? Is he having any problems with 'clumsyness'? Is he diabetic? Are his shampoos, soaps etc. gluten-free. At his age he may also be getting cross contamination or actual glutening at school. Many art supplies are not safe and in some schools the old fashioned chalk can get us. It can take a long time for the... -
ARCHIVED Maybe Hes Wrong
ravenwoodglass replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lister, I am not at all anti-pot. It can be of great medicinal use for some people. It helped keep me alive when I was at my sickest. One thing you do need to be careful of is the use of rolling papers or smoking from a pipe with others who are also smoking ciggarettes. My DS has been glutened more than once that way. One thing you may find helpful with... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
ravenwoodglass replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is bunk, they are just trying to sell their product. In addition these colon cleansers remove the beneficial bacteria that we are supposed to have in our intestines and can also upset electrolyte balance. Not only are they not beneficial they are outright dangerous. IMHO. Get more fiber from your foods if needed and when constipated, which does...
