ARCHIVED Different Reaction To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to raea2002's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Reactions can change but are you sure you were glutened? I thought for quite a while that I was being glutened but having a different reaction. It turned out that I had issues with soy which gives me incredible stomach pain but not the other symptoms I get with gluten. Took me a long time to figure that one out. Pepto Bismal liquid stops the pain within minutes... -
ARCHIVED Question About Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to Momma4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think going dairy free is not going to impact the celiac testing. -
When we go gluten free our antibody levels start to drop. When we ingest even the tiniest amount of gluten it causes the antibodies to flare and the symptoms sometimes are more severe than before we were diagnosed. It is your bodies way of trying to keep you from eating any more gluten. It sounds like you have some neuro problems associated with gluten...

You might want to give your vets office a call and ask their advice on what would be best for you and the cows. -

Did you talk to the head chef at the restaurant? If not give them a call and ask if he/she can can talk to you before the event. The chef will know what is being served and should be able to tell you what is safe. I went to one event a little bit back where it turned out pretty much everything but dessert was safe and the chef gave me and others a choice... -
ARCHIVED Wondering If I Should Get Tested For Celiac Disease
ravenwoodglass replied to Hunt9909's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it would be a good idea to get tested, however you need to keep eating gluten until all celiac related testing is done. So get back on gluten and if it has been more than a couple days that you have been off it you may notice it makes you feel awful when you add it back in. Be aware that false negatives rates are about 20% so after all celiac related... -
ARCHIVED I Was Glutened!
ravenwoodglass replied to Mateto's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hope you don't get too ill. It can be hard for us to eat at folks homes that are not gluten free because they don't know all the things we need to do to keep us safe. Many of us eat before we go to gatherings with family and friends or bring our own food for that reason. Hope your feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Stomach's In Knots...
ravenwoodglass replied to Stubborn red head's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Wow you really went all out. I am sure he will be delighted in the long run. But how are you going to top that for his 40th! I hope you both have a great time at the party. By the way if he doesn't like the rifle or the bike my birthday is coming up in a couple months. -
ARCHIVED Went To See Gi Dude Today And....
ravenwoodglass replied to Trudyjerry's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you have been gluten free for 3 months your celiac testing will be negative almost certainly. Your doctor can rule out other problems but not celiac. Eat lightly for a day or two before the prep. Other than that making sure the prep is good and cold can make it easier to take. -
ARCHIVED How Long A Reaction To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to dustynbob's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It often is easier to just make the whole family gluten free but you should screen everyone for celiac first. The blistery could be DH especially if the scar it leaves is a purple color. A derm can biopsy the skin next to the outbreak and check for DH. Make sure they are looking for DH though as the lab needs to do a special test to check for it. If the... -
ARCHIVED New To This And Still Not Sure If It Is Celiac Disease
ravenwoodglass replied to scaredblossom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First off congrats on the wedding. Wishing you much happiness. Do keep eating gluten until your celiac related testing is done and then give the diet a good strict try. When you go for testing do make sure the doctor does stool testing to make sure that it isn't a case of food poisoning since these symptoms came on suddenly. Hope your feeling better soon... -
ARCHIVED New To This And Still Not Sure If It Is Celiac Disease
ravenwoodglass replied to scaredblossom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are done with celiac related testing give the diet a good strict try for at least a couple of months. -
ARCHIVED Utter Confusion
ravenwoodglass replied to TGL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do as the doctor suggested and give the diet a good strict try. You don't have to wait on your results. And if your Mom was told to go gluten free but didn't she should join you on the trial. -
ARCHIVED Help With Endoscopy Findings?
ravenwoodglass replied to rose03's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry you are going through all this. The report you were given does indicate that you are likely celiac combined with your symptoms and your previous positive blood test. Did they rerun the blood test? Your levels may have been higher now than they were months ago when the test was done. If you are celiac or gluten intolerant keeping you on gluten so... -
ARCHIVED Balance And Falling
ravenwoodglass replied to Songbird1976's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I often say patience is the only good thing that came out of my years of illness. I had the speech problem also. I used to be a chef and I had helpers that were suppposed to do my pulls for orders. By the time I could actually ask for what I needed I could pull it myself three times. I couldn't even tell you what a fork was if you held it up in front... -
ARCHIVED Help Me With These Tesults...please?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't assume because those labs were okay that you are not celiac. Those tests were all fine with me also. Do ask your doctor about the high folate. Are you taking supplements with folate? A high folate can also cause a falsely higher score on the B12 from my understanding, and your B12 levels should be also checked along with your vit D and perhaps some... -

ARCHIVED Are There Any Blood Tests If I'm Already gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to erikamarie87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you suspect you may have multiple intolerances you could see an allergist who will help you with a starting point for an elimination diet. Not all allergists deal with intolerances so do ask before you make an appointment. Typically the doctor will take a detailed history of all the foods you usually eat and then give you a starting point with about 5... -
ARCHIVED So Confused
ravenwoodglass replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yea they could be. However if you seem to be starting to go through menopause a bit early that may be stopped in it's tracks gluten free. Celiac can cause issues with infertility and early menapause that can resolve gluten free if the celiac is caught early enough. -
ARCHIVED Should We Get A Second Opinion?
ravenwoodglass replied to shrty331's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Make sure Mom and Dad get tested also. You might want to give the whole house a gluten free trial after all testing is done. With little ones that is often the easiest way to go. Prevents one waving Oreos in the others faces and dancing. -
For me it is a whole abdomen thing. It feels like some giant has grabbed my intestines and is twisting them into a knot. I can't straighten up and often will break out in a cold sweat and feel like I am going to pass out.

ARCHIVED Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't assume you don't have it. Did they do a total IGA? It also would be good to get a DGP done. That was no where near a full panel. If your going to get more testing stay on gluten. If your done with all testing try the diet strictly for a while. My doctors considering those two blood tests to be proof positive I was not celiac cost me many years. Not... -
ARCHIVED How Long A Reaction To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to dustynbob's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are very early into the diet. Have you taken care of all the precautions we need to take in the kitchen? Were all condiments, butter, etc exchanged for new containers that gluten eaters are not using? Have you gotten a new dedicated toaster? Those are essentials as even a tiny crumb will get us. You also need to avoid barley and barley malt, rye and oats... -
ARCHIVED Should We Get A Second Opinion?
ravenwoodglass replied to shrty331's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yet another doctor who wants us half dead before they will diagnose. I would get a second opinion only because he would need precautions taken at school. The blood test he had that was a strong positive is the best celiac test we have to date. The scalloping is a sign of celiac and biopsies can miss damaged villi especially in children. After all testing... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Indicates Beginning Stages... Doc Says No
ravenwoodglass replied to PossiblyCeliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did he also tell you to keep eating gluten and come back in a year to retest to see if your villi are totally destroyed yet? What did he say was the reason why he found the results he did find? I agree you need to get full copies of your blood work and biopsy report. Make sure all celiac related testing, including total IGA is done and then give the diet...
