ARCHIVED Please Say Prayers Or Send Good Thoughts For My Dad
Glutenfreefamily replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
He is home :D :D !!! He is doing good. He is on coumadin and lovenox for the clots and has to go back every day for blood tests for the next week to check on his coumadin levels but he was able to come home and rest and sleep in his own bed. He has therapy on Wednesday starting up again. What a whirlwind! Thank you so much for the prayers and good... -

ARCHIVED Stomach Virus I Just Can't Shake
Glutenfreefamily replied to HAK1031's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Our whole family before had norovirus and we couldn't keep a thing in. Me and my husband were dehydrated and had horrible leg cramps. When my daughter got it I called her dr and she gave me excellent advice. She said to feed her a tablespoon of pedialyte every five minutes. After an hour if she does fine to increase it to 2 tablespoons every 10 minutes and... -

Today he was in better spirits He doesnt get to come home yet unfortunately. His coumadin level is not as high as they want it even though he has been on it for over a week. They want it a therapeutic rate and not too high or low. They also said he is still showing as iron deficient anemic even though he has been on iron pills this whole time and I believe... -

Thanks They did a cat scan on him and found another blood clot. It is in his lung and lodged in an artery. They believe it broke off the one in his leg and traveled. Thankfully it didnt go to his heart or put him in respiratory arrest and he has no symptoms with it. They put him on lovenox to take along with his coumadin last night so he can do the... -

Thank you very much for all the good thoughts and prayers sent My dad did not have a heart catheter done today. He woke up this morning with a 101 fever and a very swollen hot leg. They did a doppler on him and they found he has developed a blood clot in his leg he had the replacement on. They put him, I believe, on heparin tonight. My mom couldnt recall... -

He went in Wednesday for a knee replacement. A surgery that was suppose to be easy and he would have been out in a few days. When they went in there the work was much more extensive as his ligaments had grown together due to him limping from knee pain for over 30 years. They had to be split. He ended up needing a blood transfusion due to loss of blood (2... -
ARCHIVED Help My Son's Broken Spirit
Glutenfreefamily replied to nattrail's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would consider homeschooling or another kind of schooling to help him get through. Kids are so mean and it breaks my heart of what he is enduring. Unfortunately once you get pegged for a certain kind of teasing its hard to break from that and it kills your self esteem. I would do what I had to do to make him comfortable. I was homeschooled for many years... -
ARCHIVED Why Are Parents So Stubborn?
Glutenfreefamily replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for the replies and things to think about. Its hard just to ignore them but I feel like Im just a sounding board and Im sick of being it. Especially my mother, she is mean when she doesnt want to agree with you and very controlling. They accept our diagnosis's and know its best to be on it but after 2 years of talking to them they arent making any... -
I just wanted to add one thing, dont allow a non diagnostic test keep you from not eating gluten. Just because its not what dr's tests would consider celiac doesnt mean it wont do damage to you in other ways including autoimmune disorders. I agree get checked out but dont feel the dr's opinion is the end all be all.

ARCHIVED New Update On Annika
Glutenfreefamily replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Im sorry you had to go through that with no answers still. I know from personal experience scratch tests are not a good indicator for the most part of food allergies. My daughter came up as negative with a dairy allergy through blood and scratch test even though her bright red cheeks went away when she was off dairy. Im guessing that maybe your milk is drying... -
I had the same issues and its actually very common on here. I was told it was because you are healing and you are absorbing foods again instead of them just passing right on through you. These intolerances are not probably new. They have likely always been there and now your body is feeling the effects of them. The most popular intolerances I have seen on...

ARCHIVED Desperate For Advice
Glutenfreefamily replied to CarolynV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have neurological issues also. Mine are mainly bad sciatica, seizures, numbness in my right leg and foot. I also have nerve pain that seems to send them on heightened alert when Im having "D". I also use to get burning in my back from physical exertion. I am much better now, Im around 2 1/2 years gluten-free. I found I had many intolerances and leaky gut... -
ARCHIVED Depressing Teeth Decay Problem
Glutenfreefamily replied to Alternative mama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Im so sorry too! That would make me cry too. Im going on two and a half years gluten free and my issues are still coming out. My most recent one was two weeks ago, I bawled but it just gets to be a bit much. Im just thankful that my daughter is gluten-free ( and has been since she was 1) so she doesnt have these issues herself when she is older but its... -

ARCHIVED Why Are Parents So Stubborn?
Glutenfreefamily replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's sad isnt it? They let food (something that has alternatives) control their lives completely and their future health knowing they can feel good if they followed it. Im glad Im not alone in my thoughts -
I see many posts on here about kids who dont follow their gluten-free diet but what about stubborn parents who know they are gluten intolerant They did the testing, they have malabsorption, and every excuse in the book why they cant do it. They say they are trying but they are not gluten-free fully. I have a medical background and every time they bring...

ARCHIVED What Do You Feed Your Babies?
Glutenfreefamily replied to siouxsie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We skipped cereal (not a whole lot of nutrition out of it anyways) and her first food was avocado. She loved it and its a healthy fat, excellent for brain growth. Still does at 4 years old. I never did the jarred baby food, I just bought little 4 oz containers and blended fruits and veggies and put them in the four ounce containers in the freezer. There is...
