  1. Here's the scoop. General Mills has reformulated Rice Chex. A phone call to General Mills confirms that it is true. The new formulation does not contain barley malt. The new boxes are rolling out to stores now, but you may not see them for a few months. The new boxes say gluten free on them. Read the box carefully because we will be seeing both for...
  2. I am not Jewish, but my Husband is. Matzoh is not just a food, it is an integral part of the Passover Seder. Here is a web page that gives a good description of what is Kosher for Passover. Open Original Shared Link Some key points: - The Torah instructs a Jew not to eat (or even possess) chometz all seven days of Passover (Exodus 13:3). "Chometz...
  3. Open Original Shared Link Enjoy!
  4. Where is he eating out and what is he ordering? If it were me, that would be the first thing I would stop doing. Even under the best of circumstances, eating out is a minefield. Have you introduced anything new - food or non-food? Think about vitamins and suplements, hand lotion, shampoo, etc. Are you still cooking with gluten in the house?...
  5. When we were on a CF diet we were pleased to learn that these candies were safe for us: Junior Mints Starburst Skittles Pez (fun holiday dispensers, too) Laffy Taffy It's probably too late for your Easter basket, but just file these in your memory banks for later.
  6. I've gotten that "I'd kill myself" comment quite a few times too. I never know quite how to respond to it. I always say something like "Well, if I did eat it, I'd be killing myself in a slow and painful way!" People are just stupid sometimes. Feeling healthy is all the reward we need. They can keep their gluten! I mean, really? They'd kill themselves...
  7. There are other things besides celiac that cause an elevated tTg: Open Original Shared Link
  8. Open Original Shared Linkto a recipe with pictures. Have never tried it myself, so I can't say how well it works.
  9. My first trip to the grocery post-DX took about that long. But it was because I was reading the label on every product in the store trying to figure out what I could eat. Many of those products I wouldn't have bought anyway. I was reading the label on every bottle of ketchup, for example, while in reality I would have only bought one. I read the label...
  10. It would depend on why one was avoiding dairy. Butter contains casein. Butter also contains small amounts of lactose, but less than in milk. If one is looking to avoid casein, it is out. If one is looking to avoid lactose, it may be OK in moderate quantities. If one has a dairy allergy, it would be off limits in any case. Hope this helps.
  11. Here's my take in looking at what you ate: corn chips with salsa - if they were made in a shared fryer that was used to fry gluten items, they would be contaminated. Did you ask if the fryer was dedicated to the chips or shared? chicken fajitas with corn tortillas - Fajita seasoning can have wheat flour in it to make it stick to the chicken. Did you...
  12. Almost all of Open Original Shared Linkis gluten-free, and they are all over the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I am boycotting all of Hershey's products now because of their ridiculous natural flavors policy. Dagoba and Sharfenberger are both owned by Hersheys. Glad you guys like them, though.
  13. It generally takes much longer than 3 weeks for gluten antibodies to show up on bloodwork. By the time the bloodwork does register, you may have already done significant damage to your gut. I'll let you be the guinea pig on this one.
  14. If you are only eating one meal a day that may or may not contain gluten, it is going to be harder for you to get positive results on the bloodwork. Please do get copies of your bloodwork results from the doctor and post them here. Sometimes ill informed doctors run the wrong tests and don't know how to interpret the results they do run. I can tell from...
  15. Thanks for the tip! I just took the plastic off my issue yesterday. That tart crust recipe does look wonderful. Since it's an article about passover desserts, I was a little disappointed to see some of the recipes had matzo meal in them. But there were still several that looked great and would work for us. Here's a link to the recipes if anyone is...
  16. After I was diagnosed, I started to lose lots of hair. I was really freaked out by it. I went to the doctor about it, and she said that any time you have a serious illness (I was literally near death when I was diagnosed), it disturbs the hair cycle. Hair lives a certain amount of time, and then it is programmed to fall out. The number of hairs growing and...
  17. I could find no current information on this. It seems to stem from Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link. That information is several years old, which is a lifetime in the gluten-free world. /uploads/emoticons/default_wink.png' alt=';)'> FWIW - Open Original Shared Linksays this: It does not say if the Elisa test anything...
  18. According to the SUCKY flash-induced website for Open Original Shared Link all their teas are gluten free EXCEPT Green Ginger, Honeybush, Lemon Ginger and Tea Lemonade.
  19. If they are the peanut butter eggs that are about the size of a thimble, they are not gluten-free. I just looked at them in the store a few minutes ago and they have wheat flour listed. This is above and beyond any gluten that may be in any natural flavors.
  20. Oats contain the protein avenin, which is technically different from the gluten in wheat, barley and rye. The protein in wheat is called gliadin, it's horedin in barley, and secalin in the rye. Avenin in oats causes some celiacs problems, but not all. There is a small subset of celiacs that cannot tolerate oats in any form, gluten-free or not (last study...
  21. GIG has a great printable handout about adding fiber to your diet: Open Original Shared Link
  22. Are you using the buds to apply your liner, or to smudge it once it's on? I love the EM eyeliner brush since it gives such a fine line, but sometimes it's nice to do a little smudge thing. I tried birthday cake for the first time today. It's a really pretty matte baby pink. It looks great as a base under snowflakes. I also used cookie sheet blush...
  23. There are lots more, but I am on my way out the door. Hope this helps. Open Original Shared Link
  24. We use the cheese packets out of the Kraft mac and cheese. I bet if you modified a regular chex mix recipe Open Original Shared Link you could sub the cheese powder in. It would probably work pretty well. Let us know if you try it and how it turns out.
  25. If you go to the top of the page, you will see a button that says options. Click it and choose the standard view. That should do the trick.
