ARCHIVED Cadberry Creme Eggs Not Gluten Free!
cruelshoes replied to CeliacMom2008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jayhawkmom - Thanks for clearing that up for me. I know just what you mean about safe food lists. I don't trust them either. -
ARCHIVED Favorite gluten-free Egg Dishes?
cruelshoes replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Zowie - thatsa lotta eggs! I'll stop whining since we are about 3 dozen ahead, then. Yeah, you're right. I was so bummed when we didn't get a single egg November - January (days too short). But they are definitely making up for lost time now. We have 2 Dominiques, 2 Australorps, 1 Easter Egger and 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte... -
ARCHIVED Cost Of Baking

Guar gum has that pesky laxative effect, and it's viscosity-producing power is not quite equal to Xanthan gum. Open Original Shared Link I do know lots of people that sub guar gum for xanthan with acceptable results, though. -
ARCHIVED The Safety Of Eating Gluten Free Barley
cruelshoes replied to sandpiper's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have never seen any barley product that claimed to be gluten free. Any chance you have a brand name or what the product is? I myself would be extremely dubious of any product or person who claimed that they made barley gluten free by harvesting it at a certain time. Oats contain the protein avenin, which is technically different from the gluten in... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Magic Bullet?
cruelshoes replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Great tips, ladies! I made some gingerbread, and am going to the store now to buy cream to make whipped cream in the magic bullet! This thing is not going to be good for my waistline. Oh, well, smoothies are healthy. -
ARCHIVED Cadberry Creme Eggs Not Gluten Free!
cruelshoes replied to CeliacMom2008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I could find no current information on this. It seems to stem from Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link. That information is several years old, which is a lifetime in the gluten-free world. /uploads/emoticons/default_wink.png' alt=';)'> FWIW - Open Original Shared Linksays this: It does not say if the Elisa test anything... -
ARCHIVED Cadberry Creme Eggs Not Gluten Free!
cruelshoes replied to CeliacMom2008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The information I posted above does not realate to any product specifically. It relates to the food ingredient in question. There is no doubt that the ingredient is sourced from wheat. By law, it has to be labeled that way. The question that must be asked is whether or not the resuting food ingredient sourced from wheat has any gluten in it. This is... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Magic Bullet?
cruelshoes posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My family knows of my love of all kitchen gadgetry, and got me a Open Original Shared Link for my birthday. OK - maybe it's not the most powerful thing in the world, but it is cute, and is a great size for leaving out on the counter. It will never replace my Kitchenaid food processor, but it's nice for small jobs. I'm already having lots of fun with... -
ARCHIVED Favorite gluten-free Egg Dishes?
cruelshoes posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Our chickens have gone into overdrive! We have 6 chickens and they are all laying every day recently. 6 eggs a day is a lot to keep up with. Im running out of ideas on how to use them. Hard boiled? Done it. Baking bread, cakes and cookies? Oh, yes, lots of times. As a hair conditioner? Done that too. Do you have any TNT dishes you could share that use... -
ARCHIVED Cadberry Creme Eggs Not Gluten Free!

I won't eat them in any case (too sweet for me), but here is some information to help you make your decision. "Open Original Shared Link" Shelley Case, author. page: 53- "Glucose syrups are highly processed and purified in order to separate and remove the protein portion from the starch mixture. .... Although glucose syrup can be made from wheat, the... -
ARCHIVED Saw The Gastro Yesterday
cruelshoes replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From my experience, scoping for reflux is a very normal procedure. Reflux can have many causes (celiac being one of them). For example, the scope allows the doctor to check the condition of the sphincter muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Sometimes, if this muscle doesn't close all the way, acid leaks out and reflux results. They also do it to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oat Flour
cruelshoes replied to ruthla's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So sorry you are not feeling well. This is from the Open Original Shared Link The only oats that are certain to be free of contamination from gluten grains are grown in dedicated fields. Here is a study that demonstrates the trouble with mainstream oats, IMO. One never knows how much gluten contamination there will be. It could be a little... -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
cruelshoes replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think we should post this in the "get this look" section of the EM site. Or maybe not. Very interesting. Perhaps I will try this technique. I seem to be rather heavy handed with bronzer and can't get the application down right. I either end up splotchy or darker than a drag queen after visiting the tanning salon. I am... -
ARCHIVED Cost Of Baking
cruelshoes replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Silly gluten eaters! Well, should we talk about ways to keep the cost down? I buy my Open Original Shared Link5 pounds at a time. Looks like the current price is $37.50, which works out to $7.50/lb. Buying flours at asian markets is a huge money saver. Cornstarch, tapioca, potato starch, rice flour and others can routinely be found where I live... -
ARCHIVED Xanthan Gum And Corn Starch
cruelshoes replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Open Original Shared Link is a thickener (it increases the viscosity of liquids) and emulsifier (it keeps things from separating). A very small amount can add much needed structure to gluten free baked goods. Open Original Shared Link is also sometimes used as a binder, but it has nowhere near the power that xanthan gum has. Adding a teaspoon of... -

ARCHIVED Immitation Crab
cruelshoes replied to fatcat11188's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most imitation crab contains wheat flour and/or wheat starch to hold it together. One safe brand I know of is called Open Original Shared Link by Trident Foods. Hope this helps. -
ARCHIVED Cadbury Mini Eggs =(

Hersheys has a long track record of being consistently inconsistent in their responses when people call their customer care line. Open Original Shared Link from another celiac board from 2006. It is the same crappy CYA, the same runaround. I used to be a big fan of Hersheys, but I am not so sure anymore. I definitely won't eat any of their products that... -

ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!

I was so panicky when I saw there were no posts yesterday. Please don't let the mineral madness be over. It's still too much fun. I have an excuse for not posting yesterday. The baby has pneumonia and we were at the doctor's office all day. I adore my mixing bowls! The baby keeps packing them off because she likes to stack them and... -
I have never been there, but here is another post on the subject. Doesn't look promising. Sorry. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Difficult Times From Others?
cruelshoes replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have never been given a hard time about Celiac by any member of my family, any friend or even any stranger. In fact, I've never had anyone do anything but bend over backwards to try to make or find safe food for me. Maybe it is because so many people I know saw how sick I was before I was diagnosed. When they saw my hair falling out and had to pick me... -
According to an email I received in the last 6 months or so from Burt's, their Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate) is from soy. Hope this helps.

Lots of fun with my new order that came yesterday! I haven't tried everything yet, but here's what I know so far: Eyeshadows Swing Set - a very light matte gray. I don't know if I will use this one much. Pink Pajamas - fun baby pink. Can't wait to use this one Scented Candles - really nice taupe Baby Bath - exactly matches the color of my eyelids... -
ARCHIVED Hoping That Gluten Free Will Help Me!
cruelshoes replied to Philly Girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This may be of help to you: Open Original Shared Link It is not at all uncommon for people with positive bloodwork to get a negative biopsy result. Damage can be patchy, and many doctors take very few samples. In the presence of positive bloodwork, I would be inclined to go gluten-free. I hope you get a resolution to your symptoms soon.
