ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill All Purpose Flour Mix......
cruelshoes replied to glutenfreemeg's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use it in recipes where there is another strong flavor to cover up the taste. Chocolate chip cookies work great with bette hagman's 4 flour bean mix. Don't eat the dough, though, because it tastes nasty. After it's baked you can't taste the beany metallic flavor anymore. Brownies would work well too, or something with spices in it. It really gives... -
ARCHIVED A.m.a.z.o.n. Subscribe And Save
cruelshoes posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do any of you use Open Original Shared Link? Basically, you choose what you want to buy from the list that they have, and you schedule how often you want to receive it (monthly, every 2 months etc.). They give you a 15% discount, and if you need something sooner you can push up the delivery. You can even cancel a delivery. While my son was CF, we started... -
Our kids are 12, 9 and 20 months. So we are always chasing after/cleaning up after/cooking for/driving around one or more of them. I save a lot of time by cooking in bulk and then freezing in meal sized portions. For example, we cook a whole bunch of meatballs on a weekend and then freeze them in meal sized packages. Then when we want them we can pull...

ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill All Purpose Flour Mix......
cruelshoes replied to glutenfreemeg's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It is definitely the bean flour. I cannot stand any of Bob's breads for this reason. I can stomach the all-purpose mix when I add it to something with strong flavors to cover it up. The BRM chocolate cake mix has bean flour in it, but you can't taste it when it's masked by the chocolate. Some of us are just supertasters, I think. I am the same way with... -
ARCHIVED What Is Spelt Flour
cruelshoes replied to mustluvcats's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Spelt is an ancient form of wheat. It can sometimes be tolerated by people with a wheat allergy, but it is not safe for those on a gluten free diet because the molecular structure is too similar. It is often marketed as "wheat free", but it is not gluten free. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
cruelshoes replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This combination sounds great! Car pool is the blue I don't have. Argh! I may try it with baby sitter, the blue I DO have. I am impatient too! I keep thinking it can't be too much longer. I found the latest special pretty underwhelming, so I won't be ordering anything more until the new site comes out. They have hinted around adding... -
ARCHIVED Brand New
cruelshoes replied to Apsaroke's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Open Original Shared Link is another form of testing that uses a stool sample rather than blood. It is generally used by those who cannot or choose not to go through testing in the traditional bloodwork/biopsy route. Enterolab's results are not diagnostic. It cannot give you a celiac diagnosis. It can only say that you are producing antibodies to gluten... -

ARCHIVED Pizza Crust Diaster W/ Egg Replacer!
cruelshoes replied to LoriG's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Eggs serve several purposes in baked goods. Most of the time, they serve the purpose of binding and/or leavening. In my experience, ener-g egg replacer does a good job of replacing the leavening power of eggs, but does little to compensate for the binding properties. If I were going to make Chebe without eggs, I would use flax gel. 1 Egg = 1 tablespoon... -
ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill Unsweetened Shredded Coconut
cruelshoes replied to MaryJones2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glad they werre able to give you an answer. When I was first diagnosed, I tried their corn flour that is produced in their regular plant. Boy was that a mistake. I was sick for days. I personally wouldn't take a chance on any of the products from their regular facility. So far, their gluten-free products are great for us, I just wish there were more... -
Both of my pre-celiac disease diagnosis babies were on the small side. My daughter was 4 pounds 15 ounces (born at 35 weeks) and my son was 6 pounds 9 ounces (36 weeks). Our baby that was born after I was dx was 6 pounds 2 ounces (born at 38 weeks). I have more often heard stories of babies on the smaller side in undiagnosed women. If you do come up with...

ARCHIVED School - I Need To Vent
cruelshoes replied to ckmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think this is a great way to make all the kids healthier and happier. They don't need all that sugar anyway. Is this a public school with a USDA lunch program? If so, you might want to educate them on the government regulations regarding school lunch programs. They are violating the The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 which says, in part: ... -

ARCHIVED High School Dropout
cruelshoes replied to norcalballa23's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is never too late to finish high school. In our school district, they have an online high school for kids that cannot attend on a normal schedule. It is free to all the students in the district. Donna - I think your new train case is much too empty. You need to order lots more makeup to fill it up with. Two words, ladies - Pink Pajamas. Tried this one for the first time yesterday and boy do I love it. Used floating feathers as a base and silver spoon as a liner. I am really hoping they do not introduce a bunch of new eyeshadow... -
ARCHIVED Shopping Anywhere But Wegmans & Whole Foods Frustration!
cruelshoes replied to FlourShopGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it's great when stores label their product with gluten-free signs. But when that happens, we run the risk of falling into one of these scenarios: 1 - We miss out on a lot of other products that are gluten-free, but not marketed as such 2 - We are subject to the wrong things being labeled gluten-free. ie. things getting moved around on the... -

I am not a dextrin expert, nor do I play one on TV. Here is some information that may be of help to you. ARCHIVED Perky O's Vs Glutino Cereal?
cruelshoes replied to stolly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We've had both flavors of the Glutino ones. They didn't taste much like Cheerios, though. The texture was too "airy" if that makes sense. They had more of a corn flavor to me than Cheerios. We thought they were good, but I haven't bought them again because of the expense. The texture would probably be very pleasing to a little one. Perky o's are disgusting... -

Welcome to the madness, Barb! To see the sample kit, visit this page: Open Original Shared Link. Click the free kit to add it to your cart. Then you get to choose what goes in it. You can get 3 foundations, 1 blush and 1 concealer. All you have to pay is the shipping (it was about $4 for me). The EM page says the samples are good for 3 - 6 applications...
