  1. I had OCD tendencies pre-gluten-free. I would get stuck on the same thought pattern over and over and not be able to get off it. I knew it was happening but wasn't able to stop the repetition. it sucked in a major way. I was also short tempered and would get angry and frustrated. Which I hated because it was not the way I wanted to be. And very different...
  2. If your friend buries her head in the sand her problems will just go away, a scientifically non-proven fact. for sure. Otherwise if she is an adult she might want to conside4r changing her ways to suit reality. She seems to be living in de Nile at the moment, and hurting herself because of that. I hope she wises up soon before more auto-immune diseases...
  3. That's a big glutening. It takes me a month to get over a small Cc incident. maybe longer sometimes. Could be I'll meet you in a retirement home some day still talking about your big noodle glutening of 2011. LOL Well, to be more serious, lots of water, check, milk of magnesia if your having C, check, Pepto Bismol if you are having pain, check...
  4. If you are eating out a lot you need to be very careful to choose good, safe, gluten-free restaraunts. Check ahead of time with the restaraunt to verify they understand gluten-free and can support your needs. Otherwise don't go there and eat. Another option is to ask the restaraunt if you can bring your own food in and just order a drink. Or eat your...
  5. I have Irish/German ancestry too, what more evidence do you need? Kidding. I have read something like 6 weeks to three months of eating gluten, but the usual preference seems to be 3 months minimum. And there is still a chance of false negatives. You might want to read up on Enterolabs site. Dr. Fine has paper there suggesting that the blood tests...
  6. Maybe hubby doesn't really understand the seriousness of celiac disease. Men on very rare, once in a phtalo blue moon occasions can be a tad dense. I should know, I is one! But a little education can go a long way too. There is a whole long list of associated conditions and related diseases that celiacs are more prone to get when they are not gluten...
  7. Top right side of each post there is a +- sign. Click the plus sign to Like a post and the minus sign to dislike a post. We are much more advanced on this forum than Facebook, cause we have a dislike option. I clicked the plus sign for Bonnie Blue's post. Try it, it doesn't hurt at all!
  8. I don't buy seasoned burgers. I do get pre-made burger patties sometimes if they are on sale and 100% beef. I have had turkey patties before but it has been so long I don't remember the brand. But they wouldn't have been seasoned that's for sure. I really don't get people buying these pre-seasoned meats anyway. It is so simple to add seasonings to a...
  9. There have been threads about the Peace Corp on the board before. It might help to do a search and find some of those to read.
  10. I avoid chardonay's because they like to add lots of nifty flavors to them. One way they may do that is by adding used barrel staves to the wine barrel giving it some flavor from the old barrel. They sometimes use old whiskey barrel staves for this. So I think that is a possible source of gluten since I have reacted to some whiskies. Which is why I don...
  11. Hi Landslide, CC is a serious issue. Think about how your immune system reacts to germs. Once you become immune to something the germs get killed off by your immune cells. After you are all better your immune system relaxes. But if another germ of the same kind gets in your system the immune system perks up and starts fighting again. It doesn't...
  12. You can get some frozen Italian ices at many grocery stores. They come in little cups and are dairy free and taste good too. Luigi's is one brand. Would be good thing for people to cool off fast and all you need is a spoon for each person to eat them. You could also get some brown rice wraps if you have a Trader Joe's nearby. Warm them in the nuker...
  13. Your body has to adjust to being gluten-free. The first months can be back and forth. Your gut flora need to adapt and re-stabilize with the revised diet. It's not just you that changed your diet, they are eating different food now too. Also you should start healing which is a big change also. Lots of new villi and lots more surface area for lots more...
  14. There is a reimbursement on food in England for people with diagnosed celaic. So if that is something you want to do you probably should get the endoscopy and biopsy. They might not do the reimbursement without it. I don't know how it works but with you and your daughter it might be worthwhile.
  15. If your testing is done you can go ahead and start the gluten-free diet. Although sometimes it does happen that the tests will be invalid for some reason and they will need to re-do the blood draw and retest. But that doesn't happen often.
  16. You can take milk of magnesia to help get things moving faster. And some Pepto Bismol to help sooth the intestines. Marsh mallow root or okra can do the same thing. L-glutamine is said to heal heal the gut although I don't have any ref for that. Pro-biotics can also help get things back to normal.
  17. Welcome to the group! I think most of us felt kind of lost when we started on the gluten-free diet. There is a lot to learn about being gluten-free and celiac disease. And it does require changing your ideas about eating other things. like where it is safe to go out and eat. It is not really that hard though once you get used to it. There is whole...
  18. Suing might not work. There is no standard for labeling foods gluten free in the USA. The FDA has not finalized one yet.
  19. Here's another similar thread. check out BackTalk's post on what happened to her when she went off the diet. There are consequences. Falling Off The Gluten-Free Wagon staying gluten free
  20. Welcome to the site Jo-Ann! Sunny Devon sounds like a fine place to be from!
  21. I think gluten is your most likely culprit, since celiac runs in your family. People with celiac also tend to get other auto-immune diseases, especially if they don't follow the diet. It might eb interesting for you to make list of the other auto-immune diseases in your family. It might lead you to a guess about which side the celiac genes are on. If...
  22. OK, this is not a BLOG in the traditional Victorian sense. It is more a collection of interesting and informative threads and articles on celiac.com that might helpful to people. This is a place where users of celiac com can share thread or article links that might otherwise get buried in the flood of posts. Feel free to suggest threads or articles that...
  23. Thanks Takala, I'll keep an eye out for the Spectrum mayo next time. I don't use it a whole lot except in guacamole. But I found n the guacamole is fine without it anyway.
  24. Some times people get hungreyier after going gluten-free. Once you are gluten-free your body can start repairng the damage to your intestines and that takes extra fuel and nutrients. You should get some B-12 and B multi vitmains to take, along with some Vitamin D and a cal/mag combo. Once you are healed up you may find yourself eating less because you...
  25. Well, there was a poster a while back who went off the diet. She ended up going to the ER one night and they had to cut 2 feet of her intestine out and put her on a colostomy bag. She wasn't real happy about all that. read post #37 by BackTalk in this thread. Posted 21 March 2010 - 01:58 PM Falling Off The Gluten-Free Wagon - Celiac.com
