  1. My first question is: Have you all experienced diarrhea when eating gluten-free bread or bread-products? Sure, with some of them. I react to soy and dairy and nightshades, so those ones are a problem for me. So I don't eat them. Some people have problems with tapioca flour too, or eggs or ____ that you can fill in the blank. I'm wondering if my...
  2. That's don't panic and carry a bath towel! Geez! There are celiac groups on Facebook with many members. Most areas have a celiac support group also. The CSA (celiac Sprue Assocaiation) has them, and GIG and ROCK. About 1 in 133 people have celiac, so there are a bunch of us around. But most of us'n don't know we's have'n it ya know. Doctors tell...
  3. I don't know if I was a colicky baby. But my mom said I used to turn the oatmeal bowl upside down on my head and refused to eat it. I'd rather have it run down my face instead. Plus I had a lot of, um, accidents. She cured me by dragging my butt thru the snow. She said this is when I learned the ABC's also, cause I started reciting the ABCs while snow...
  4. Dairy, soy, nightshades, (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant), eggs, corn, tapioca, nuts, and so on and on.
  5. You can look for almond milk or hemp milk in organic or heath food stores. It is usually sold in boxes and on shelf rather than in a refrigerator. You can find Daiya dairy free/soy free cheese shreds in Canada. Not the same as cow milk cheese but not too bad either. Open Original Shared Link
  6. Hi, Welcome to our glorious club of gluten freedom fighters! Really, if I was you, I'd forget about doing the gluten-free diet until after Thanksgiving. Then start and go from there. As far as eating meat goes, I'd say yes, eat the meat. Celiacs have a hard enough time absorbing nutrients that some rich protein can be a help. I have been taking vit...
  7. I saw where Crayon was dropping off alligators at her neighbor's house in Kansas City again. Police say she does it a couple times a year, nothing new. I guess she waits until they are dangerous and then releases them on the public. Gads! A she-devil fer sure! Open Original Shared Link Jooday Jooday, Joooday! Yeah, them little balloons were...
  8. Coconut seems to get me too now. I am going to try it again one of these days to be sure, but I have been avoiding it for while now.
  9. Hi K, Sounds like you could be on to something with the gluten-free diet. If you are going to get tested though you need to keep eating gluten until the testing is done. Otherwise the tests won't do any good. So you might wan to just keep chowing down all the remaining gluten in the house for a few weeks until the testing is over. Do try the diet...
  10. I whole-heartedly agree with RavenWood about the dangers of celiac disease. The work load on our medical system would most likely decrease and health care costs for all of us decline if proper preventative care was given to the population. How may people would be healthier if there doctors told them to try the gluten-free diet to treat their IBS instead...
  11. You could go ahead and get the test (without eating gluten) and use it to evaluate your success in staying gluten-free. That is another reason some people get the tests. I just had a blood check and was low on vit D. I have been taking vit D for the last couple years. I guess i wasn't taking enough though.
  12. There is no cure for celiac disease. When ya got it, ya got it. Lots of us seem to get more sensitive after going gluten-free, reacting to tiny amounts of cc. When you get rid of all gluten and gluten cross-contamination, you will most likely feel better. There are also other food intolerances that crop up for some of us though, like soy, nightshades...
  13. Maybe you should try staying off dairy and nightshades for a couple weeks then, and see if it helps. When I went off soy, it was a week and a half before I felt somewhat better, but over a month to really get to feeling a lot better. Sometimes one or two days just isn't enough time. In fact most of the time\ that is not enough to get good results IMHO...

  24. Yeah, sweet taters are good for making soup too. Put a couple in a pressure cooker with water and give them about 20 minutes and they turn to mush when you stir it up. They add a nice flavor to soups or stews. I just started eating beans again and they seem to be going ok for me. Of course you could have some other veggies and some meats in there too...
  25. Hi Plumbago, There is a celiac clinic at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Dr Alessio Fassano is the head of that clinic and is well known in the celiac world. So you could go there as an alternative to NYC. There is also a nutritionist named Cheryl Harris in Alexandria who works with celiac patients. I am not surprised your antibodies are...
