  1. A new generation of tests that use deaminated gliadin peptides (DGP) have sensitivity and specificity that are substantially better than the older gliadin tests.4 DGP tests are more accurate than tTG and AGA and may be the most reliable tests to detect celiac disease in people with IgA deficiency. Open Original Shared Link DGP (Deamidated Gliadin Peptide...
  2. On which IgA test did you receive that score, and what were the ranges the lab used? Was it the tTG test? If so did they also do the quantum serum IgA test? If it were the tTG test that was positive, they will need to do some other testing, because that one is not specific for celiac disease.
  3. Well, Peter, Canada is way behind us. We only have ten cent coins now. The Swedish rounding is between 1 and 10, or in other words above or below 5. We have $5, $10 and $20 notes and $1 and $2 coins, 10 cents, 20 cents and 50 cents.
  4. If he is back on gluten and was off for only a week, I believe I would do it right away. Often a week is not long enough for the antibodies to retreat altogether. If the blood tests do come up negative (and by the way, make sure they do the full panel listed below): Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue...
  5. Bookmarks, Icis, bookmarks!!! Yes, please do tell us the results (with the reference ranges).
  6. I would give your niece the gift of not having to endure your presence, during which you would undoubtedly forget yourself and tell her what you thought about all this, and if the child turns out all right in spite of having this beotch for a mother I would give her what and when, or if, I felt like it.
  7. Plum crumble is calling mine
  8. Now that is interesting!! Not because I eat rolled oats for breakfast -- can't stand them!!, made me sick as a child -- but because they are such a useful ingredient, especially in my favorite cookies, Anzac biscuits (Aussies and Kiwis used to bake them and send them to soldiers during WWII), and in Karen's crumble topping, and such things. I think I might...
  9. It is probably easier in life for those of us who have grown up knowing that one size does not fit all, than realizing it later in life. For those people who can wear the average hat, the average gloves, the average shoes, to whom the catalogues proclaim "one size fits all", and it fits them, they really may not know that this is not the case -- for anything...
  10. Well, maybe not bacon cake, but how about?? BACON CUPCAKES!!! (and chocolate, at that) http://allrecipes.com/recipe/dark-chocolate-bacon-cupcakes/
  11. MO, you are lucky it isn't a full-blown UTI. We are a celiac family, and my mother, my two sisters and I have all been plagued with constant UTI's all our lives. Even though I am gluten free (and don't get quite so many) I still get a lot of them. I have had so many courses of antibiotics that they are becoming antibiotic resistant. One of my sisters...
  12. Welcome to the board, Michael, and congratulations on winning the connect-the-dots prize!! I am not sure why doctors are not very good at this game - maybe if they connect all the dots all at once they lose a patient and a source of income I am also not sure how gluten affects the hormones, but we do know that it does, differently in both men and women...
  13. No, coconut water is what comes out when you slash one in half.
  14. For a long while I used to get that sick feeling with any trace of cc. Then I used to get it when taking my supplements before bed. You know, the sweating feeling, the gagging, retching, too much saliva stuff. It seems to have gone away now.
  15. This could most definitely be celiac disease, and my advice is to go get the testing before you think about not eating gluten. Your symptoms are pretty classic. The celiac panel consists of the following tests: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide...
  16. What a sweet thing to do. Hope you get an additional reward for the business you are bringing their way I would order, too, if I were there.
  17. The best revenge is always to live well. So I try to take something along that will make everyone else envious, and not even look at what others are eating. For me, however, that generally does turn out to be something cheesy since that is the one intolerance of yours I no longer have I sometimes make myself some mousetraps on gluten free bread with...
  18. They had to put the settings to 23/18 in order to accomplish saturation to their satisfaction during my sleep study. The day following I vomited and had diarrhea most of the day - haven't been that sick in a long time, even with gluten. So I was definitely not interested in pursuing that avenue of unwellbeing. They took my blood gases before the study...
  19. What is going on with this school??? They have him on OSS - out of school suspension -- have told the bus driver he is not to ride the bus, have not informed you of the suspension or of the bus prohibition, but then the school nurse is telling you that you have to get your son to school kicking and screaming if necessary?? This does not compute. Why were...
  20. Depends on her level of sensitivity. Most people stick to the gluten free oats if they can handle oats in the first place, which many cannot, but if she is not overly sensitive and there was a low level or no contamination, she could well have no problems with oats. Still, better to stick with the certified gluten free oats.
  21. And if Dr. Google can't answer your question, get the name of the manufacturer from the pharmacy and call them. The name of the site is glutenfreedrugs.com
  22. Tthese tests that Lisa posted are what you need: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA It would appear that they did only the last one.
  23. You can still do the test, and there is even a chance of it still being positive; there is just less of a chance of it being accurate than there would be if you were still eating gluten.
  24. Oh yes, you are making sense! None so deaf as those who don't want to hear If she was actually listening that is promising. Don't forget that the blood testing is not infallible. There are many false negatives in celiac testing. Hers could well be positive. I'm sorry about your niece (and your sis ) and that sis is basing on your results...
