  1. On your father's side, the only things that sound like they could be connected are the bowel cancers and anemia and stomach problems. Your mother sounds like a fairly classic celiac. PCOS is common in celiacs although no way of knowing why she had a hysterectomy. Many of our posters have had gallbladder removal with no relief of symptoms, hypothyroidism...
  2. The complete thyroid panel is seldom run. It consists of the following: Hypersensitive thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) free thyroxine (fT4) free triiodothyronine (fT3) reverse T3 (rT3) anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (anti-TG) anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (anti-TPO) fT4/fT3 fT3/rT3 It would be very rare for this to be run in a regular blood panel...
  3. What we were looking for is the actual results relating to celiac, not the comments.
  4. I believe you need to go to the office and demand that they give you a copy of the results they got back from the lab. There must be more than that. What about the list in Lisa's post #2??
  5. Once a cook, always a cook. You just have to learn some new tricks (and they can be learned no matter how old the dog Tell us how and what you are having problems with and we'lll help, promise
  6. Only if they use a dedicated fryer, otherwise they will be cc'd.
  7. If your son is celiac, and you want an official diagnosis for him, you will have to have him continue eating gluten for the testing to be accurate. The antibodies the tests look for start to disappear in the absence of gluten. Stomach pain, joint pain, migraines, irritability, iron deficiency.... all of these can be celiac and he should be tested for it...
  8. Ah yes, the solanines, that rings a bell. I have problems with all the defense mechanisms of plants - solanines, lectins, everything they throw up to keep the bugs out.
  9. Is she on any other medication that could be creating hypertension?
  10. Yes, the nightshades give me hives, too. They also promote inflammation within the body. Don't ask me the biochemistry of it because I flunked chemistry in school
  11. Whole grain generally means that the grain, of whatever type, has not been refined in any way. For example, whole grain wheat bread should have (at least some) whole, unrefined wheat grains in it -- in practice most have a few scattered on top, but do have a certain proportion of whole grain wheat flour, i.e., flour made without first removing the outer...
  12. It is a brave soul indeed who would get up and say "All celiacs should avoid x, y, z " (apart from gluten of course),or "No gluten intolerant should eat a, b, c "(apart from gluten) because there is so much we don't know, such a paucity of scientific evidence and so much pseudo-science spread around on the internet and in books. Everywhere we turn someone...
  13. I avoid all nightshades (think 'deadly' nightshade ) which are plants that grow at night. Potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, bell and chili peppers, paprika, nicotinia.
  14. Oh yes. The vagal nerve is the connection between the gut and the brain. Pressure on the vagus nerve can cause you to faint, as from bloating -- been there, done that, numerous times.
  15. No, I did what was probably the same kind of quick search you did and there does not seem to be any literature on this. My MIL had MS and always had extremely low blood pressure. Was not treated with Interferon, however. She passed on some years ago.
  16. Yes, tis good, and all the sweeter for doing so infrequently
  17. To Kitty, many of our posters have had their gallbladders removed before they ever get to the diagnosis of celiac, with no relief. Many others have experienced improvement in the condition of their gallbladders after going gluten free. Yet others find that their supposed gallbladder pain is not really that at all. Do not be in a big rush to attribute your...
  18. I received this reply today from Kraft: " Thank You for Contacting Us! Hi Neroli, Thank you for visiting Open Original Shared Link The formulation of GOOD SEASONS Italian Salad Dressing Mix has indeed changed and I'm sorry you were disappointed with your most recent purchase. Our staff works very hard to provide the best tasting...
  19. It is a reasonably common belief that celiac disease is an allergy to wheat, when it is in fact an autoimmune response where the body attacks itself, not the gluten. The OP may have had allergy testing, but I suspect that she had celiac testing.
  20. Some are great believers in follow-up care for celiacs; others not so much. I guess I belong in the not-so-much category. So long as you make sure to keep up your Vit.D and other nutrient levels (because some of us remain to a degree malabsorbers) and are sure you are adhering to a gluten free diet, there is really not a lot of follow-up needed. For most...
  21. Sometimes we have to be content not having a diagnosis, but knowing that we are getting better anyway by following the same procedure as if we did have the diagnosis. It is not the fault of you or your husband that they don't have a test for what he's got. In time they probably willl. With non-celiac gluten intolerance you get all the symptoms and auffering...
  22. You are such an inspiration, Jan, with your sunny moment, your sunny attitude, your sunny personality and outlook on life. I am glad you had a good day!
  23. I should probably add that I now sleep with supplemental oxygen since neither CPAP nor BiPAP worked for me since I also have COPD and could not breathe out against the pressure of the machines and my blood gases ended up all out of whack.
  24. Yikes!!! We really need to rush through our doctor training program on celiac disease or any undiagnosed case of celiac disease will carry the SSD diagnosis and will likely never get the testing to get a diagnosis because it is all in their head, worst case scenario And here I though we had gotten past that "all in your head" bit.
  25. Last night I did dessert for first time in a long time (we don't need it). But our plums are ripe and they are those big meaty red ones, yummy thingers they are. So I did a plum crumble with cinnamon and O.M.G. I can't decide if it is best plain, with Greek yogurt, or with ice cream.
