  1. Yes, I found just yogurt was not enough. I actually, in the end, took a heavy duty probiotic (VSL#3, ordered online) which has something like 40 billion of the good guys (figured that should be enough, and it was), in addition to daily yogurt. I still take some probiotics, especially if anything seems a bit off, but always the yogurt.
  2. Okay, while I was healing (and even today) I always need food on my stomach, otherwise it feels like it tries to digest itself So small meals often. Cut out the raw veggies for now; they are the hardest things to digest. Be super diligent about handwashing. If you are getting something at work it could be anything from shared keyboard, shared...
  3. Have you tried Tums or Pepto Bismul? You are not very far into the diet, are you? (I see you joined in November) so it is still early days in healing. Maybe avoid the microwave at work for a while and see if it helps?? Although if your food is covered it's hard to conceive of that being a problem. Put the bag on a paper towel, cover with a paper towel...
  4. Oh yes! I have a sleep disorder, too, and used to have very vivid dreams while I was still eating gluten. Not so much any more. Except for when they put me in an induced coma, and I think then my brain was crying out for stimulation so it created its own It took my husband weeks to convince me that some of those things just did NOT happen!! They were...
  5. Oh man!! I look at these pictures and can't begin to imagine what that feels like I will never complain about my psoriasis again, I promise.
  6. I was never tested so don't know which I am. I operate on the assumption I am celiac, but I don't think I would behave any differently if I were "merely" gluten intolerant, since we don't know definitively yet if the gluten intolerants are actually damaging themselves with gluten. That being said, I do not go to the lengths that the super sensitives do...
  7. This is a suggested "good grains" mix that I copied from some unknown source before I found I couldn't eat millet or quinoa. It would make a very nutritious bread but terrible cake. 1 cup sorghum 1/2 cup millet 1/2 cup buckwheat 1/4 cup quinoa or nut 3/4 cup tapioca
  8. Your doctor's report mentions only one biopsy, of the stomach. Under duodenum he only says it looks normal, not that he took any biopsies. I hope that this was not the case since as the pp mentioned the reason they do the biopsies and examine under the microscope is that damage is usually not visible to the naked eye -- unless you have have pretty extreme...
  9. I agree with the digestive enzyme recommendation until you can get your testing, and after your testing as well, because it is going to take your body a while to heal. You will note that I am assuming you will trial the gluten free diet regardless of your test results because you may be non-celiac gluten intolerant if not celiac.
  10. Congratulations on finding a celiac savvy doctor. The symptoms you describe are associated with celiac disease and, as Wolfie mentions, gluten intolerance in general. Tlhere is no way of knowing without testing which it is. It is true that low levels of gluten eating can affect test results because the tests are measuring the antibodies your body is making...
  11. I love parsnips. They are great pureed, and they are also great as a roast veggie. Rutabagas I tend to put more in stews and stuff - not quite so tasty!
  12. Actually, bartful, the official 'estimate' for NCGI's is six for every celiac, so just a little over half are fad buying. Of course not all celiacs are diagnosed either, so there's actually no way of knowing people's reasons for purchase of gluten free food. Many probably start on a whim, wich turns out to work for them.
  13. I am so glad to hear your liver miraculously "cured" itself in the absence of gluten. Unfortunately, rheumatologists are very slow to pick up the celiac connection. My rheumy here is on board; the one in Nevada totally pooh-poohed the idea, said he had never had a rheumatology patient with celiac. I looked him in the eye and asked him how many he had tested...
  14. Well, I really don't know. I would expect that they would have to do something to it to claim it as refined But what that something is I couldn't guess.
  15. I see you are new to the board. Welcome. Do be sure to check the dates of the last posts on threads you are posting in, as some of them are quite old. The person you just replied to has not posted on the board in almost 18 months so will probably not see your post
  16. THIS!!! is what makes travelling difficult Walking around with a huge wedge tucked under your arm
  17. If his IgA were low and the tTG were weak positive it would be amazing, but that is one reason why it is checked. The weight loss is a telltale of celiac. You are not crazy at all -- you are doing what is right for your son.
  18. Egads!! Hope you has a full pantry and fridge. And you can't even knit or crochet until you can get out again
  19. Yes, you should keep gluten in your diet until you are certain that all testing is completed.
  20. Is it the endoscopy you are booked for on the 19th, or a consultation?
  21. Seems like we have come full circle again, back to the "it's all in your head" diagnosis. We are obviously masochists, firstly, because we like to deny ourselves the things we have grown up liking; we have poor body image and have been misguided into thinking this will help us lose weight; we have eating disorders that we disguise through pretending we must...
  22. Even on thyroid medication my body temp is still 97.7, but at least I don't shiver uncontrollably when I get into bed on a summer's night Leg tension, muscle pain, cold hands and feet, been there, done that. You have some that I don't have. If you feel a constriction in the neck it is possible you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Good luck with your appointment...
  23. Be sure to let him see it!!! Don't hold anything back ...well, maybe one thing
  24. Many posters have found the Biocard helpful. At least it would give you a guideline on whether it is worth paying for the celiac panel yourself since your province isn't interested
  25. Do you eat meat, Lisarose, or are you a vegetarian? It is often difficult for vegetarians to get enough iron, especially from supplements. Have you ever had an iron infusion (where you don't have to put it through your digestive system?
