ARCHIVED New And Upset After First Appointment
mushroom replied to EmmKat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board, EmmKat. As you are discovering, celiac is one of life's major frustrations. Firstly, to find anyone with knowledge, secondly, to apply that knowledge, thirdly (apparently in Canada) to find insurance coverage for it. I see Peter has just responded, so I will change my post a bit. So do you know the answers to these questions... -

We have a little studio with an ensuite and a fridge - alas no room-sized pantry to store all the sauces and condiments. We could, I suppose, move the cars out of the garage, since it is so nice and ~~~~warm~~~~ here. Yep, folks, we are actually having a summer with a big high pressure system parked over the top of us This is the first one I remember... -

Welcome to the board, Marie. If your daughter has not been eating much gluten it could account for her relatively low (but still tTG positive) results. (You do not have to be positive on every test to be a celiac). I would give her as much gluten as she can tolerate in the next couple of weeks, although two weeks isn't long in the scheme of things for... -

Have you eliminated dairy for now, as well? Celiacs often are unable to digest dairy until they are completely healed - at least the heavy-lactose dairy like milk, cream, ice cream because of gluten damage to the area that makes the enzyme for it. If you haven't already done so, give that a try, and welcome to the board -

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I don't mean to cast aspersions on the NHS, but from what I understand it is pretty hard to get a full celiac panel run over there. They tend to want to do the tTG and leave it at that. But if I were you I would want the whole shebang - Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue... -

While sweet potatoes have more carbs than white, they have a lower glycemic index. I don't know if that makes any difference for you. -
ARCHIVED Vomiting Phobia And Glutening?
mushroom replied to nostalgic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your small intestine is more than 22 feet long; I am not sure of the size of your duodenum. Your GI doctor can see your duodenum, but celiac disease is normally not visible to the naked eye; he cannot see more than the very beginning of your 22 feet that follows the duodenum. Best practice is to take six biopsy samples (some doctors think only one is necessary... -

I just excerpted this for another poster, so thought I would pop it in here, too. Open Original Shared Link The old gliadin test. In the 1990s, the gliadin antibody test was developed. Although most celiacs had a positive IgG-gliadin antibody test, high levels of this antibody were found in about 10% of the normal population. Consequently, gliadin... -

ARCHIVED Dgp Question....
mushroom replied to roomorganizing's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is my personal opinion that he should do the endoscopy with a positive DGP, even with normal bloodwork and tTG. The DGP is very specific for celiac disease (i.e., nothing else that we know of elevates it, unlike the tTG). Dr. Rodney Ford (world eminent pediatric GI - here in Christchurch) believes that every child who has an elevated DGP will eventually... -

Yes, I do think you should get your nutrient levels checked, vitamins, electrolytes, iron/ferritin, and also get your thyroid function checked, TSH, free T3 and free T4. Any deficiencies can really drag you down. -

mushroom replied to chickpea77's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
chickpea, is your doctor planning to do any follow-up on this result? Like at least run the EMA and DGP. Or do an endoscopy with biopsy? In my book, any weak positive should not be dismissed out of hand. Oh, and did he run a total serum IgA? -

Australia tossed it our way because it was burning their little island up. We were fool enough to snag it as it went by, and now it is burning our little island up (literally, for both countries, although Queensland is under water and snorkelling ) We are supposed to hit 40 degrees Celsius today. Think I might stay indoors -
I used to take VSL#3 for my leaky gut, but they are very expensive, and now I just buy whatever looks good. Lots of forum members recommend Digest Gold.
