  1. Some folks defy death; others defy nature
  2. Or when they don't entirely disappear, but are so much better. I didn't even know what my 'rash' was for all those years and didn't explore it because it didn't bother me, until it suddenly exploded into full-blown psoriasis
  3. My brother was also diagnosed with epilepsy, in his 40's. Not grand mal, not petit mal, just generic epilepsy. Like your brother, for him medication made no difference and the mini seizures continued. We eventually lost him to complications of one of his seizures I am convinced it was gluten - we are a gluten family, and he had other symptoms.
  4. I went through several rheumatoid diagnoses (polymyalgia rheumatica, RF-negative rheumatoid arthritis, finally psoriatic arthritis when the psoriasis made its appearance) all before going gluten free -- on my own accord, not because any doctor made the connection. I started eating gluten free because someone I know was treating his ankylosing spondylitis...
  5. One of the tests is called AntiGliadin Antibodies (AGA IgA and IgG), but it is an older test and is not considered to be as sensitive as the newer DGP (deamidated gliadin peptide) test. But all the celiac tests are checking for those little antibodies - they just do it i different ways. Some ways work for some, others work for others. Why it is considered...
  6. As wolfie says, for some of us gluten is highly addictive, acting like an opioid to the body and when we stop eating it we go through withdrawal, as we do with any addictive substance. Think of gluten as your particular heroin (or nicotine, or oxycontin). Your body is craving it right now, begging for it, and you are being strong and saying NO, NO, NO!...
  7. Thyroid problems are probably the most common co-rider autoimmune problem for celiacs. And by the way, don't accept any "IBS" prescriptions. Just tell him you prefer to get to the bottom of problems rather than mask them.
  8. Maybe, in addition to probiotics, you need to take a digestive enzyme with each meal. Gluten can play havoc with the pancreas, and if it isn't putting out enzymes, nothing much is going to get digested. All you've got working for you is the enzymes in your saliva at that point. Of course, you could have a motility problem too, slow passage of food through...
  9. cavernio, surely if you ask the doctor's office they will give you a copy of your blood test results? What possible reason could they have for denying them? I don't know if under Canadian law they are required to do so, but it is a pretty harmless request, especially since they are positive.
  10. jhol has said in another thread that her intestinal biopsies were negative,
  11. An endoscopy does not require general anesthesia. They give you a sedative, and a medication called Versed so that you do not remember the procedure. You wake right up after it - there is minimal recovery time. I think it is something you could do even if you were pregant but you would want to check.
  12. If gluten attacks the intestines and you test positive, it is called celiac disease. If gluten attacks the brain, and it tests positive (harder) it is called celiac disease. If gluten attacks the skin as in Dermatitis Herpetiformis, and is diagnosed positive, it is called celiac disease. If gluten attacks the body causing pain and diarrhea/constipation...
  13. This is your 12-year-old, right? If memory serves, this is the age where they start eating quite a lot, so I would give him the equivalent of a couple of slices of bread a day. And then he gets some at school and other places so that should be plenty.
  14. Do It To Me One More Time - Captain and Tenille
  15. Different labs have different reference ranges. So her 4 could be totally different from a 4 on your test. Their ranges depend, among other things, on the kind of equipment they use, for example.
  16. I am stunned, too. Email already sent.
  17. Give him bread and water!!!
  18. Here are some ideas to get you started: Almond Flour Bread 2 A versatile recipe that can be used for bread, cakes or pizza. Ingredients: DRY INGREDIENTS 1 cup of brown rice flour 1 cup almond flour ¾ cup white rice flour ¼ cup tapioca flour 2 ½ teaspoons guar gum or xanthan gum 1 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons instant yeast WET INGREDIENTS 2...
  19. Get back on the gluten!! You do not want to go gluten free until all testing is finished, I'm afraid, as it can affect the results. The antibodies start to disappear if there is nothing there to attack
  20. Some people react to almond milk which has been filtered with barley - I believe it is Silk?? Others will know. I personally cannot eat potatoes, but again, I cannot eat any nightshades including tomatoes. I believe you will have to keep a food and symptom diary to find the likely culprits. Do you have a list of staples you know you don't react to...
  21. You will need to test levels of vitamins A, B's (especially B12 and folate), D, E and K, and iron/ferritin, potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc. Also get your thyroid checked (TSH, free T3, free T4 and TPO antibodies).
  22. Oh yeah!!! I could burp / belch for an hour
  23. Our Love is Here To Stay - Nat King Cole
  24. Rice is a grain, but a very low protein one - only 5% on the table in the link.
