  1. For many years before and after my diagnosis I had shoulder knots and serious stiff neck issues. This was an issue for me for at least 10-15 years after my diagnosis, until I started taking supplements for likely vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and switching over to a very firm pillow. For the most part these issues are gone now, but not completely. As...
  2. You may want to contact these companies: Medichecks: Medichecks offers a variety of blood tests, including celiac disease testing. You can order tests online, and they provide convenient home blood test kits. Thriva: Thriva provides at-home blood testing kits, and they offer celiac disease tests that include relevant antibody markers. Blue...
  3. Just in case you might be getting traces of gluten in your diet, this article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
  4. Celiac.com 10/14/2023 - Celiac disease is a complex autoimmune condition that affects millions of people worldwide. For those with celiac disease, gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye, is the primary antagonist. When individuals...
  5. I'm in Northern California and use Kaiser, and I just had to wait in line for 1.5 hours to get my covid booster and my flu shot!
  6. I thought this was an interesting long-term study on dementia risk for those who use proton pump inhibitors: https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/997244
  7. Thanks for the update, and this wouldn't eliminate NCGS, so if a gluten-free diet relieves your symptoms then you may have NCGS.
  8. Here's the breakdown of the additives you've mentioned: Emulsifiers of Plant Origin (E471 and E472e): E471 is mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, which are commonly derived from plant sources (such as vegetable oils) but can also come from animal fats. E472e is known as mono- and diacetyltartaric acid esters of mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids...
  9. Actually similar risks have been found in people who get covid-19, but without vaccinations their risks of additional bad health outcomes are significantly higher, so you're likely better off getting the booster than the live virus.
  10. One of my main symptoms before I went gluten-free was pain in my lower-right abdominal area. If you were diagnosed with celiac disease hopefully the doctor informed you that you should go on a 100% gluten-free diet.
  11. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests...
  12. There is no way to be sure at this point, but let us know. If your tests do come back negative gluten could still be an issue for you...approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.
  13. They use quail eggs in Asian foods, and I see them at Asian markets, but it seems like it would take more like 5 of them to equal a chicken egg.

  15. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The...
  16. The IGA test result indicates that you don't have an IGA deficiency, which means that you TtG-IgA results are accurate. If your TtG-IgA results are positive, then it means that you likely do have celiac disease. The serum alanine aminotransferase level indicates you have a potential liver issue which you should follow up on (undiagnosed celiacs who eat...
  17. I would be very surprised if their pasta were contaminated as it is certified gluten-free and made on a gluten-free line, but it is possible they had an issue with a batch: https://www.barilla.com/en-us/product-results/pasta/range/gluten-free?sort=alpha&page=1
  18. I believe that the general consensus is that everyone with DH has celiac disease. DH is the skin manifestation of celiac disease. Everyone with either DH and/or celiac disease should be on a gluten-free diet.
  19. You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance"...

  21. Another member here who has DH reported that the very best thing to stop the itching was grinding up a 25mg pill of Benadryl (or perhaps get capsules and just open one) into a little water, then rubbing the solution over the rash or itchy areas. Just be careful about using too much too often, as you can absorb the drug through the skin.
  22. I think technically speaking it is wheat allergy, and not referred to as "gluten allergy." I assume this is what Beyond Celiac's beef is with the reference.
  23. Consider trying out duck eggs, which I switched to for several years around the time of my diagnosis:
  24. Perhaps I could have phrased that better, but when you said "They believe that I not only am celiac but have a food allergy because of the nature of my reactions," I got the impression that you don't believe either, especially since you seem ready to proceed with a gluten challenge which could be dangerous for you, especially if you do have a wheat allergy...
