  1. Welcome to the forum @OfcVal, it's great to hear that you discovered the sources of your symptoms and have recovered.
  2. Celiac.com 04/15/2023 - Celiac disease is a chronic autoimmune disorder that affects the small intestine, triggered by the ingestion of gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. One often overlooked consequence of untreated and...
  3. I don't believe this would create a major contamination issue, and it seems like any contamination would end up on the outside of the carton, where it could be seen. So I guess if you are worried about this perhaps wipe off the carton before you pour any milk from it.
  4. Welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've dealt with over the years, and all of your symptoms could definitely be related to undiagnosed celiac disease and/or non-celiac gluten sensitivity (no tests for this yet), especially if you have a genetic marker for celiac disease. Unfortunately allergy tests would not work to diagnose...
  5. I've been using McCormick spices which are also considered gluten-free, and can usually be purchased in any supermarket.
  6. Thanks for the tip! It probably makes sense to look for "gluten-free" on many alternative grains, flours, beans, legumes, seeds, etc., due to the risk of cross-contamination during transportation, or in various packing areas.
  7. I just tried 365 Whole Foods Market brand Whole Grain Sliced Sandwich Bread which has 17 larger slices per package and it's really good. Amazingly if you have an Amazon Prime membership it costs only $3.65 per loaf, but is normally double that. It's actually priced better with this discount that many wheat breads.

  9. @imdoodah331 it's too bad you had to go through all that to get a celiac diagnosis. Are you taking vitamin and mineral supplements? Many of the muscle and nerve symptoms you describe could be related to deficiencies, especially magnesium.
  10. I would only say that "supposed to be gluten free" when eating in a restaurant often isn't, and there has been research done that backs this up:
  11. A possible downside to getting a formal diagnosis would be higher private life and/or medical insurance premiums.
  12. If it is made from corn then it would be safe for celiacs. Of course, if you have concerns you can always just use water to seal an envelope, or better yet, buy self-sealing envelopes.
  13. These articles may be helpful:
  14. Hi @Dtoc, it's great to hear that you are finding answers for your health issues. Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease? How long have you been gluten-free?
  15. Please read the article. Their site does not say they are NOT gluten-free, but also does not list them as gluten-free. https://www.thehersheycompany.com/en_us/home/ingredients/allergens.html
  16. So if your daughter had a positive celiac blood test, and a negative biopsy for celiac disease, then she may still have it, or she may have non-celiac gluten sensitivity. She should try a gluten-free diet for a few months to see if it helps her with any symptoms. Be sure to discuss this with her doctor.
  17. It's hard to understand exactly what happened...was this a microwave oven? I hope you didn't have plastic in a regular oven. I think if the plate is only used as a cover and it simply fell off in the oven, and you put it back on, the likelihood of gluten contamination from this incident would be very low.
  18. Perhaps if you have any friends that live near you and go there regularly you could put in a standing order to have them pick up a package for you and pay them back? We've done this before with friends who live near us but don't have a Costco membership.
  19. If I had two separate positive tTG blood tests two years apart, and saw a decrease in diarrhea after going gluten-free, I would consider myself as having celiac disease and/or the more common non-celiac gluten sensitivity (there are currently not tests for this yet, but ~10x more people have it than CD).
  20. I think you would need to ask the gastroenterologist whether or not they took biopsies for celiac disease, as the results you shared don't make this clear. Was it an endoscopy?
