  1. About 10 years ago, I suffered with terrible night terrors. I would be sure someone was in the house and would be afraid to move in my bed. That rarely happens now that I have been totally gluten-free. It is pretty frightening when it happens, though.
  2. Thoughts and prayers going up for you!
  3. I have definitely felt the same way. I am lucky in the fact that my husband likes to cook and does so often. I feel like he is being deprived though, because he would like to take me out for dinner but it's just too difficult most of the time. I miss the days when we could just pull into the first place that sounded good and enjoy a meal without worry...
  4. I have also tried the cornbread and really liked it. I've only been able to find it at one place though. It does not taste like what most people think of when they think "cornbread."
  5. Ditto on the nails!! My nails look better than they have my entire life. This is great since my son is getting married next month and I will have nice nails!!!!
  6. I'll try to keep my story short and sweet. According to my mom, I had problems becoming dehydrated as a baby. Next, I remember when I was in first grade having to wait on the bus having to go to the bathroom and not making it a few times. Started experiencing stomach pains, diarrhea, etc in high school. Seemed to happen after consuming dairy. Dr. did...
  7. I have been fighting the same problem for the past 2 years. I go to a personal trainer once a week, exercise, am positively gluten-free, and honestly feel like I do not eat excessively. At this time, I weigh the most I ever have in my life. I must be absorbing everything I look at! I still have the bloating and spent 30 minutes a couple weeks ago trying...
  8. I cheated for about 6 years after being diagnosed. Then one summer, I was sick for nine straight days and I decided enough is enough. I have to get serious about this if I want to be "normal". I think it took that period for me to be convinced. I have been faithful since that day of decision.
  9. I know what you mean. Before my two sons started college, I had them tested. I was adamant about having all 5 tests in the celiac panel done. I reiterated this several times and was told they understood. However, the hospital where the blood tests were done did not do the tests. They were sent off to another facility. When the nurse called me, she was...
  10. Ditto for me! Immodium everywhere! I have had so many embarrassing situations that I am afraid not to take it when leaving home. I don't take it when I will be staying home. I take it in situations where it isn't comfortable for me to excuse myself, such as the dentist's chair, hair dresser, etc. It is interesting though, that this subject came up. ...
  11. First, let me say that my side of the family is very supportive. My husband looks out for me with a vengeance. My mom is very careful what she prepares when she has dinner and always has something she knows I can eat. Sometimes she does make an honest mistake b/c something hasn't occurred to her, like when she had a birthday dinner for my dad and me, she...
  12. I'm coming to the party, Ursa! My dad's birthday was yesterday and mine's tomorrow so we'll help you celebrate! I'm not sure my two sons will remember my birthday is tomorrow, either. They're 21 and 20 and neither one of them has mentioned it yet, so we'll see.
  13. I am experiencing the same frustration. My son is getting married in July and my New Year's resolution was to lose weight for the wedding. I want him to be proud of his mom. However, instead of losing any weight, I have put on another 10 lbs. I don't understand how this is happening. It is nothing for me to gain 3 lbs overnight. I go to a personal trainer...
  14. I used to accidentally bite the inside of my mouth and once I did it, it seemed like I did it several times, each time very painful. Hadn't thought much about it until reading these posts. That's a good thing cause that means it "ain't " happenin' anymore!!!!!!
  15. I would definitely request the bone scan. I requested one just b/c I was in my forties and wanted to make sure I was ok. To my surprise, I was told I had osteopenia due to my celiac. I have since broken my foot and it took several months to heal and it still causes me pain on a daily basis.
  16. I admit I feel ashamed when people who are actually concerned about me ask me to explain what I cannot eat. Then they want to know what I am able to consume. Since going gluten-free, I have gained 20+ pounds and I can see where it does look a little suspicious if I can't eat alot of foods but am still overweight. I feel like a hypocrite b/c I should be...
  17. My GI does a small bowel series with follow-through every 3 years to check for intestinal lymphoma or any malignancies. I think I am due for one again, but I am thinking of turning it down this time. The last time I had diarrhea and vomiting afterwards and was very sick. Don't know if the barium contained gluten or I already had a bug going in. I'm not...
  18. I've also noticed that after a little exertion, I am out of breath. One day my son asked me why I was out of breath after carrying in the groceries. I don't know if I'm that out of shape or something else is going on. I do go to a personal trainer once a week and don't really notice it there, though.
  19. After FINALLY having a normal "formed" bowl movement, I, too, felt like throwing a big party. I was so excited that after years of diarrhea, I could be normal once again!
  20. Yes, this happens to me. It seems like about every 10 weeks or so. I will feel bad and have to make many trips to the bathroom and my husband will say, "What did you eat today?" I usually have no idea what caused it.
  21. Thanks for the suggestions. It makes me crazy that manufacturers can't list ingredient derivatives like Kraft and others do. I don't think others with food problems (like diabetics) have to call the company like we do (no offense, just frustrated).
  22. About a week ago, I had some gluten symptoms and haven't been able to pinpoint the culprit. The only possible things I used out of the ordinary were Vicks Formula 44 Sore Throat spray (honey lemon ice flavor) and Chloraseptic Defense Daily Health Strips Vitamin C & Zinc Ingredients for the Vicks are:glycerin, phenol, FD&C yellow No. 6, flavor...
  23. I work in an elementary school and have gotten the flu shot at least the past six years. I chose this option after coming down with the flu twice within 6 weeks and the second episode was horrible. I have had no adverse reaction from it and have not had the flu since beginning the shot. However, I also work with some who choose not to get it. It's a personal...
  24. Our local Subway allowed me to read the ingredients in all their soups...none were gluten free.
  25. I have the barium/follow through to make sure I haven't developed any lymphomas or other problems. The last time I went in for one I already wasn't feeling well. Afterward, I became very sick. The hospital was about 45 minutes from my home. I had it coming out of both ends before I made it there. That's one reason I thought maybe the info I had was right...
