ARCHIVED On Board Ship - Maybe Migraine Related?
dilettantesteph replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I hope it goes away too. It doesn't sound like much fun. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity - Concentration
dilettantesteph replied to joshy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's interesting. I have been hearing a lot about how supplements are unregulated here in the U.S. and sometimes don't contain what they are supposed to. I'm guessing that you are in the U.K., is that the case there too? -
ARCHIVED On Board Ship - Maybe Migraine Related?
dilettantesteph replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also get the aura without pain migraine symptom, also peripheral vision and blind spots. It pretty much went away gluten-free, but does come back if I get a long period of cross contamination issues. I probably get that rocking thing too, but hadn't really paid much attention to it. How long have you been gluten-free? How good are you are avoiding... -
ARCHIVED Spices
dilettantesteph replied to durrsakja's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is an article about gluten free spices and cross contamination possibilities: Open Original Shared Link I think that I reacted to several single ingredient spices. I switched to fresh spices in the produce section and eventually started growing my own. I am sensitive to very low levels of cross contamination. Of course single ingredient non gluten... -
ARCHIVED Why Is She Still Getting Tummy Aches?
dilettantesteph replied to kkcg2736's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Great advice, a food/symptom journal has been very helpful for us. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity - Concentration
dilettantesteph replied to joshy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You should do a new thread for that. I don't think that very many of us read all the threads, at least I don't. -
ARCHIVED Coffee - Good Or Bad?
dilettantesteph replied to Ys255's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Look at it botanically and you can understand better. If you aren't familiar with the plants, look them up online. Wheat, barley, rye and oats are members of the grass family. Many celiacs don't even react to oats. All are not supposed to react to other grasses such as corn rice and millet. Open Original Shared Link Coffee comes from a flowering shrub... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Beer - What Do You Drink?
dilettantesteph replied to squirmingitch's topic in Super Sensitive People
As mentioned above, I also had problems with Greens and as not mentioned, it also didn't have to do with the amount of alcohol consumed. I can consume that amount from other sources. I am sorry that you got hit and I hope that you continue to improve. It would be nice to have more awareness of differences in sensitivity level and to have that made clear... -
ARCHIVED Airborne Gluten...
dilettantesteph replied to PlayOutside's topic in Super Sensitive People
Me too and me too. I'm glad that you are doing better. -
ARCHIVED Corn, Too?
dilettantesteph replied to djmarko1971's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Totally. Sorry about that. I'll try to read more carefully. It took me a lot longer than a week. Simple would help with that process anyway. I did what a lot of people probably do and went to the store and bought all the gluten-free stuff. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Beer - What Do You Drink?
dilettantesteph replied to squirmingitch's topic in Super Sensitive People
JoyMurphy, I was posting to you in another thread where you said that you were on the Fasano diet. I didn't think that it included alcoholic beverages. I looked it up and it doesn't. That may be another reason for ongoing symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Amazon <dot> Ca
dilettantesteph replied to NorthernElf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I lived in Canada for years and have friends and family there still. It has gotten much more expensive to mail things from here (the U.S.) to there than it used to be. I started sending checks instead of presents. Last time I had a big package I drove the couple hours to the border and mailed it from Canada. That was cheap. I wouldn't just blame "the... -
ARCHIVED Corn, Too?
dilettantesteph replied to djmarko1971's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be corn, or it could be that you react to lower levels of cross contamination than others. It takes some trial and error to figure out. You could go all unpackaged and unprocessed for awhile and then add back and see what happens. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity - Concentration
dilettantesteph replied to joshy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, concentration was a big problem for me. It did go away gluten free. It does come back when I get glutened. My son has the same issue. I couldn't even concentrate enough to read the newspaper before diagnosis. He can't do schoolwork when glutened. We are both super sensitive and had to go to extremes to avoid all gluten. -
ARCHIVED Did Anyone See Friday's Ellen Show?
dilettantesteph replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree. I didn't see the Ellen show, but I saw another where the annoying girlfriend wanted gluten free pizza. It is considered some kind of OCD thing - which is actually a real condition as well - rather than a serious medical issue. My husband hasn't been the greatest. I worry about my kids finding significant others. My daughter has a truly wonderful... -
I'm with you. It sucks. The worst is when after waiting ages for the appointment you find that the specialist knows less about the condition than the PCP!!! It is still a joy to be alive and be able to feel the sun on your face. Enjoy what you can and try not to stress too much about the rest.

A big contamination you feel right away and it hits you hard. A small contamination can sneak up on you. Those symptoms get worse and worse and it can be very hard to figure out what it is. I've been doing this for 6 years and this has happened to me several times. Eventually I figure out the source and fix my health problems by eliminating it. If you...

Before talking to me about specifics about super sensitivity, go here first. I have to agree with IrishHeart and notme! that this is the most likely source of CC issues. Sorry about that.

ARCHIVED Migraines. Better gluten-free? How Long gluten-free?
dilettantesteph replied to sreese68's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also had an improvement with migraines gluten free, both in frequency and severity. -
Sorry MuminNorway. Thanks Kareng for getting back to the point. Kareng is right, with crumbs all over, it is hard to blame the eggs for sure. It is so easy to blame the wrong thing. I tried something again yesterday that I had blamed and I am just fine today. I have learned by now to try things again. I figure that it takes 3 times to be sure. Sometimes...

I definitely agree about continuing to see your doctors for help. They may find something else that is treatable. The fact that the Fasano diet seemed to help is an indication to me that you are sensitive to very low levels of gluten and that could be the problem. I am sensitive to very low levels myself. I have spent 6 years working on figuring...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Beer - What Do You Drink?
dilettantesteph replied to squirmingitch's topic in Super Sensitive People
I thought that Bards was from a gluten-free facility too. How did you confirm that? I can't find it on their webpage. I believe that I have reacted to Greens too. Bards was better, but still a bit hit and miss so I haven't had any beer for awhile. I looked up Glutenberg too. I clicked on their "view the chemical analysis report" and it says 0.00 ppm... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Beer - What Do You Drink?
dilettantesteph replied to squirmingitch's topic in Super Sensitive People
Does Glutenberg blond ale use a dedicated facility? I haven't heard of them. -
Nutrition is not my area of expertise. I was wondering if it was yours. Generally, I don't believe one person's ideas whether or not they are dealing with a very difficult disease. I like to read the original research papers and see if it looks like the study was well done. I like to look at the consensus of the experts in the field. This idea of things...
