  1. I think that I am also sensitive to extremely low levels of gluten. So is my son. I can't believe all the things to which I react. Could all those things really be contaminated? Yet, when I grow them myself in my garden, I don't react. Certain items I can still buy. I freeze and can and grow. I read recommendations for items that other sensitive people...
  2. Some with a positive DH biopsy and therefore considered positive for celiac disease get negative intestinal biopsies. In my opinion, that shows that some celiacs will not have enough intestinal damage for a positive biopsy and may show damage elsewhere.
  3. You are so right about all of this. It is when you are facing adversity together that you get a real measure of a person. Good for you to not settle for someone who was not a good person for you. A person who is not willing to take measures to keep you from being sick is not a person with whom it is worth spending a life together.
  4. Here is a descriptions of some of the celiac related skin conditions: Open Original Shared Link
  5. Isn't it weird that it doesn't seem to wash off? I have examples of it not seeming to wash off either. I find it mystifying.
  6. Doctors only have about 30 seconds per patient so it's no wonder they aren't effective communicators. What I think he meant is that you are more likely to be reacting to contamination in the corn and buckwheat than the corn and buckwheat themselves. I have heard of celiacs with additional sensitivities, but also, I have carefully sorted through whole corn...
  7. I am sorry that you are dealing with this. I am someone who is very sensitive to trace gluten. I have some neurological effects, but not tremors. My son is also very sensitive to trace gluten and it leads to severe learning disabilities for him. He goes from getting among the highest grades in his class when he is healthy to failing everything when he...
  8. Open Original Shared Link "The tests identified several potential fillers, including rice, soybean and grasses such as wheat that could pose a health concern for people allergic to those plants and for consumers seeking gluten-free products" Be sure to try elimination herbal products if you are still experiencing symptoms on the gluten-free diet...
  9. I don't know. I know that it is possible to have a negative blood test and a positive biopsy. I know it is possible to have a positive test for DH and have a negative biopsy. There is still not enough known about this condition to be sure how to handle it in some cases. I would still say that it wouldn't hurt to try a produce and unprocessed meat diet...
  10. If you look at the Fasano study that has been used to show that 20 ppm gluten is safe for most celiacs you will see that one of the participants had a full relapse and and left the study. This was while taking the 10 mg/day gluten. Most celiacs is not all celiacs. You may react to lower levels of gluten than most. I do. There is a study published by...
  11. You stated that you have accidentally ingested gluten many times and didn't have any problems. That would make it seem that gluten is not your issue. Have you gone to the doctor about this? That is what I would recommend.
  12. According to the date farmer I communicated with, they pollinate with the flour mixture and then they put a bag over the flowers. That would keep the flour from being washed off. I still don't think that it is an issue for all but the most sensitive celiacs, since many report that they eat dates without issues. If all celiacs had problems with these low...
  13. I have a hard time buying that too. I guess if you have been suffering all sorts of symptoms, and then get rid of the gluten symptoms you could have the symptoms from your other food intolerances remaining. But, why would you all of a sudden have much more severe symptoms to another food when you eliminate gluten? Why would you be able to eat that food...
  14. I have heard that drywall paste can contain gluten. It is talked about here: Open Original Shared Link
  15. This is not typical for a celiac, but it isn't abnormal. Different celiacs require different amounts of gluten to initiate a reaction. Though for most 20 ppm is safe according to the FDA, that is not true for us all. Some of us have a hard time reacting to cross contamination of naturally gluten free foods that can occur during harvest, storage, transportation...
  16. I felt an immediate huge improvement just eliminating cereal and bread. As time went on, I kept reacting to things and I kept learning about which additional things I needed to eliminate from my diet. I learned that I was sensitive to much lower levels of contamination than typical and I learned a lot more about what to eliminate. After about a year I...
  17. I always wash up before eating. My hands swell too if I'm glutened. I don't buy much packaged foods, and then only carefully vetted ones. I hope that you improve quickly.
  18. This condition does let you know which people in your life care more about their own stomachs than your health. My daughter did not ask her boyfriend to go gluten free. He did it on his own when he found out how sensitive she was. That was before they even kissed. He seems like a really caring individual.
  19. I don't know what their reference was. I e-mailed to ask them and they didn't get back to me. I haven't been able to find any scientific studies to back that up. It does make me want to exercise caution in my garden.
  20. I would try to think of it from their point of view. Before I was educated about this, I wouldn't have believed it either. Many of us become somewhat obsessed when we first find out what has been causing us so much grief for so long. After awhile you realize that what interests you isn't necessarily what interests others. Then you can get back to the...
  21. After touching anything that might have gluten on it, I am careful to wash up before touching anything that I am going to eat. Skin contact with gluten should not be a problem if you wash it off before it can get ingested. According to the University of Chicago celiac center, gluten takes 4 years to break down in soil. I think that it would take longer...
  22. Yes, I think I have. Tooth brushing should help. If you are extremely sensitive, you may want you partner to be gluten free. My daughter's boyfriend did that. He's a really sweet guy. He's more careful than my husband was.
  23. I can totally relate. It can be hard to stay upbeat. I remember how sick I was before the diagnosis, and how much better I am now, and that makes it a lot easier. I don't know how long you have been at this. It's been about 6 years for me. As time goes on, I get better at it and I get less sick less often.
  24. How nice to have a representative of the company come on to help! Can you tell us about what precautions you take to prevent cross contamination between the gluten containing sausages and the gluten free sausages, please?
  25. I chewed my nails badly and stopped in high school. How old is he? He has to really want to stop. It's difficult. It might help if he had other things to do with his hands. Could he get one of those little toys that are made to fiddle with? Would his teachers let him do that in the classroom? I got one made by Tangle Creations for my nephew.
