  1. It's concentration. It's under a certain level. If there is any tiny amount in there, it will be cumulative. Eating more would give you a larger dose. For example, if there is one speck of contamination, for every teaspoon of food, when you eat 2 teaspoons of food, you will get 2 specks. When you eat 100 teaspoons, you will get 100 speaks. If you have...
  2. I am sorry if my comment about advice from strangers seemed like a reflection on you. I didn't mean it that way. What I meant is that a personal exam by a doctor is required for a medical opinion. I agree that personal experience can be helpful, especially to make us feel less alone in our eccentricities.
  3. I would have to say that it depends on how good your dishwasher is and how sensitive you are to what levels of gluten. If you aren't experiencing symptoms, don't worry about it. If you are experiencing symptoms, try washing all you dishes by hand and see if it makes a difference.
  4. About the only thing that happens to my husband when he gets into gluten is depression. He is only just starting to make that connection, which has been obvious to our children and me for a long time. Could it be diet related?
  5. You could try bringing it up with the pediatrician and have him/her access her and discuss counselling with her. Good luck. It can be hard to get a child that age to do anything. You also need to recognize the fact that some the anxiety might be your own. If you approach it with her with that in mind, it might help.
  6. Could it be from the thin plastic gloves? Some people are allergic to some of those.
  7. How old is your daughter? I think that when you find out how careful you have to be to avoid gluten, it can seem excessive. Some of us get sick from very small amounts. On the other hand, some adolescent girls have serious food issues. I would seek professional help if you are concerned. It is too important to depend on strangers in a forum.
  8. I have seen that stated a lot, but I haven't ever seen any evidence for it. When I have checked prices with testing companies, it was not the case.
  9. It looks like Corona is gluten free: Open Original Shared Linkr Open Original Shared Link At least to 10 ppm. It looks like it's made from rice and corn, not wheat. It still has malted barley.
  10. Cross contamination is enough to return me to full blown symptoms where I can't make it to the toilet in time, my back goes out, my vision blurs, I can barely get out of bed from fatigue, all my joints ache, I can't think straight, and I'm so depressed that I would kill myself if I had a gun handy. That isn't much fun. That's why I'm so careful.
  11. At some point you might want to consider the possibility that you might be sensitive to lower levels of gluten than average. I agree with cutting out dairy first. If things don't improve with that you might want to try some other things like looking for some gluten in your diet which you have missed, or cutting down on cc possibilities. I needed to do...
  12. It seems to be open to interpretation and enforcement. I, personally, don't feel reassured, even for the less sensitive members in my family. I think that things might have been better before. Time will tell.
  13. Getting faced with this medical condition really reveals the character of the people we deal with. When someone's food is more important to them than their loved ones' health, something is really wrong.
  14. Thank you "Notme!" It says "Are manufacturers required to test for gluten to make a gluten-free claim on their food labels? No. " Then there are more details.
  15. Let me try to give you some hope. I had obvious symptoms, but then again, I had a whole bunch of other symptoms too that I didn't know were from gluten. You may find, once you manage to get rid of all that cross contamination, that things go away that you never imagined were from gluten. I felt like I was aging in reverse for a long while as all that damage...
  16. It seems that some celiacs believe that if it is a reaction that they don't have, it must be allergic. It has been well established that some celiacs are sensitive to lower levels of gluten than others. That could also be a reason why one reacts to something that another doesn't. There are general indicators of allergy as opposed to a celiac reaction that...
  17. My reading of the decision is that they are not required to test.
  18. I do eat a clean diet and don't know if this will have any effect on me personally. I eat naturally gluten-free foods, like you said. I'm not so sure about other family members. Time will tell.
  19. Hi. Some celiacs react to levels lower than the allowed 20 ppm in gluten-free foods. In the main study used to say that that level is safe: Open Original Shared Link "One patient (challenged with 10 mg gluten) developed a clinical relapse" Clearly, that level is not safe for all. I am one of those who cannot tolerate many of those gluten-free processed...
  20. Only time will tell. It's not safe for me, that's for sure. It took them a long time to come up with this regulation. If it is found to be inadequate, how long will it take them to come up with a more strict version?
  21. I just hope that this doesn't make companies with more strict practices lighten up their standards. I agree with Rebekka that many have issues with 20 ppm. I am another one of these more sensitive celiacs. I am also surprised how much is said about 20 ppm being the lowest level of testing available. Here is a place that tests to 5 ppm or 10 ppm gluten...
  22. You are right. It doesn't make sense. I am sensitive to very low levels of gluten and I had to go on a very strict diet to get complete symptom relief. Nonetheless, I improved greatly with the elimination of just Cheerios and bread. If you are feeling worse gluten free it is likely something else. And that something else is getting worse because it is...
  23. If you are in the middle of nowhere, maybe there are some farmers who have stands by the road in front of their places. You can buy up stuff in season and can and freeze yourself to avoid corn cc. It's a lot of work, but maybe better than limp and split stuff.
  24. I waited until I wasn't having any more D.
