I have noticed that glutening symptoms are worse when I am having my period, and a few days before. I was very happy when I finally got my diet clean enough that I didn't even notice when my period was coming. It may not be that you ate anything different. There may be something in your diet that you only notice a reaction to when you are having your period...

I have seen this thread for awhile, but I didn't actually read it until now. My thinking on this is that if we are producing antibodies, we are reacting. What I think happened is that celiac disease was defined by GI docs by damage to the intestine observed by endoscopy. Sometimes antibodies were observed when GI damage to the intestine was not observed...

				ARCHIVED A Thought On Supplements
dilettantesteph replied to alesusy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is little scientific evidence for supplements helping, and they are poorly regulated. I prefer to use whole foods, but I do use two very carefully chosen supplements where I didn't have that option. Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED I Would Really Like To Gain Some Weight
dilettantesteph replied to Mattress Rick's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My son and I have been working on gaining weight by eating lots of whole milk yogurt, like a quart a day each. We have each gained about 7 pounds since September. We eat homemade due to extreme sensitivity to gluten. I have a special whole milk source. I mix it with applesauce, but my son takes it unflavored, unsweetened, just straight. Homemade yogurt... -

ARCHIVED Best Way To Train For Half Marathon?
dilettantesteph replied to archaeo in FL's topic in Sports and Fitness
After about a year gluten free, I felt so much better and wanted a similar challenge. I decided to to a mini triathlon. The run part was only 3 miles, but it came after a bike ride and swim. I looked up a bunch of training regimes online as you did, and I took what I liked from each and make up my own. I concentrated on both distance and time depending... -

ARCHIVED Blurred Vision And Gluten Ingestion
dilettantesteph replied to alesusy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, I get blurred vision. In fact, before diagnosis I had 20:40 vision. After a year gluten free I went to the eye doctor. I had 20:20 vision and saw better without the glasses! I don't think that my vision changed until I was more completely gluten free and healed for quite a few months. When glutened the blurring comes back. I do notice symptoms ... -

				ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
dilettantesteph replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
It is hard coping with celiac disease, and even more so when you find out that you are super sensitive. There are few who understand and many who tell you that you couldn't possibly be reacting to what you are reacting too. I am lucky to have supportive doctors and to have found other super sensitive celiacs who have been very supportive. I would love... -

ARCHIVED Certified Gluten Free Foods Safe?
dilettantesteph replied to Rubyrue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have had a similar experience. Though 20 ppm is considered safe for most celiacs, that doesn't mean all celiacs. I had to find that out the hard way. Just because another can eat something won't necessarily mean that you can. There are also different standards for what certified gluten free means. It could be just that you are new to all this as mentioned... -

ARCHIVED Are Celiacs Really Slowly Dying?
dilettantesteph replied to Scouts's topic in Super Sensitive People
This blog talks about a study of people who experience symptoms while on a gluten free diet. Open Original Shared Link You aren't alone there. I had that problem as well, and I have gotten rid of the symptoms by switching to a diet of mainly unprocessed foods, and by checking everything I eat with elimination/challenge diets. I put myself in the super... -

ARCHIVED Help--Recently Diagnosed--Mostly Vegetarian Eater......gluten Free Diet Panic
dilettantesteph replied to sofismom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am vegetarian and gluten free. It isn't as hard as you are thinking. You can eat eggs, cheese, yogurt, potatoes, sweet potatoes, avocados, beans, nuts, buckwheat, oil and butter for more calories. I ate meat for a little while because I thought I had to, but it didn't do me any good, and I just don't like it. I'm not any worse for not eating it again... -
I am a super sensitive celiac. I can eat carefully sourced corn. Regular corn and things made from it are likely to give me a reaction. I believe that it gets cross contaminated during growth, harvest, storage, and shipment. Corn is often grown in rotation with wheat, and usually shared equipment is used. The level of cross contamination involved doesn...

ARCHIVED 24Y Male And Under Weight Bmi 16 What To Eat?
dilettantesteph replied to GlutenBoy1986's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It sounds like you are facing quite a challenge. I wish you the best getting through it. Here, at farmer's markets, if you buy in bulk, you can get a lot of food for not much money. Also, non processed food is safer as far as possible cross contamination goes. I get a big box of apples for $25. Late last season he was selling them to me for $10. This... -

ARCHIVED Food Prep/storage Convincing Family To Go gluten-free
dilettantesteph replied to p4rano1d4ndro1d's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would suggest that you protect yourself first. Do you have a part of the house that you can set up for your own personal mini kitchen? Set up a dorm fridge, microwave, and toaster oven. Keep your food completely separate and keep away from the kitchen. Changing the way that other people eat is very challenging. This is especially true for older people... -

				ARCHIVED Fish...please Help
dilettantesteph replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a guy who will take it fresh from the box they send from the ship before anyone has touched it. I went to the store and asked to talk to someone and explained the whole thing to him. Now he will tell me when things are coming in and tell me to phone first to be sure that they did, and he will put it aside for me. Maybe if you do some explaining... -

ARCHIVED Diagnosed 6 Months Ago Still Having Problems
dilettantesteph replied to gemini1962's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There isn't a test that shows that you are eating gluten free. There is one that shows antibodies to gluten, but they can be negative even for celiacs eating a full gluten diet who go on to get positive endoscopies for celiac disease. Gluten free products are safe for the vast majority of celiacs. But, if you continue to have problems while eating... -

				ARCHIVED Am I Unreasonable?
dilettantesteph replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Super Sensitive People
I am very sensitive and I can travel now. I have a small microwave and a cooler that plugs into the car that I can also plug in at a hotel. I am pretty much healed and have my diet figured out. I can see how during the healing and figuring out process it would be difficult to travel. You need to give your health the importance that it deserves. Others... -

ARCHIVED If Not Super Sensitive..is Damage Still Being Done?
dilettantesteph replied to 123glldd's topic in Super Sensitive People
Refractory celiacs definitely show villi damage while on a gluten free diet. Whether or not that is caused by trace gluten is debatable. My GI doc thinks that refractory celiacs are super sensitive celiacs. I get "poop in the pants" uncontrollable diarrhea from what I believe is trace gluten. Fasano used that term in the talk I heard him give, and... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Don't Really Like Meat.... Hashi's Sufferer And Need To Lose Weight
dilettantesteph replied to HashisGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm not sure why so many people said that you need to add meat to your diet. Is that a Hashi recommendation? I don't know much about Hashi, but I am low carb and vegetarian. I eat mainly yogurt, olive oil, eggs honey, fruits and vegetables. I am at the low end of a healthy BMI. When I eliminated processed sugar I lost most of my fat. I am about 15...
