  1. I've definitely had to go outside. Once I was in a car and someone in it seemed to be wearing a huge ton of perfume. Even right by the open window, I couldn't stand it. I got out. Fortunately my husband came with me. We were in Mexico City and I had no idea where I was and I don't speak the language well. He couldn't smell anything. My friend in the...
  2. Yes, and yes!! For years the slightest perfume was debilitating to me, even if I couldn't smell it. I did have a very sensitive sense of smell too. Now, sometimes other people smell perfume and complain about it and I don't even notice!!! It's been 3 years since diagnosis. Good luck!
  3. I am very sensitive. I have pretty well cut out all processed foods. I also have to be careful about food grown on straw and coatings used on produce. I wash everything else very carefully. The steps I have to take to be gluten free seem crazy. I think that I am to an average celiac, what an average celiac is to a person who does not have celiac disease...
  4. I am sorry to hear about how sick you got. I don't know how many times I have gotten sick from gluten free food myself. The worst is when celiacs who can eat that stuff go on about how you are imagining your symptoms! Some of us are just more sensitive than others to trace gluten. Now I stick with mainly unprocessed foods. I hope you feel better soon...
  5. What do you mean by a strict gluten free diet? I found early on that I couldn't handle gluten free foods that were not made in a strictly gluten free facility. Could that be a problem with the noodles that you had?
  6. My joint pain went away from going gluten-free. It took a few months. I didn't take any silica.
  7. By not celiac do you mean not gold standard biopsy diagnosed? Or do you mean you can eat gluten without symptoms and you don't have the gene? I am the former. Anyway, I was too sick to exercise for years before diagnosis. Now I am back to it training for a mini triathlon. I am in better shape now than I have been in 20 years. The biggest training...
  8. It depends on how sensitive you are. I'm very sensitive and it took me around 2 years. I still play Russian roulette every time I decide to try to add something new to my diet. The only way for me to tell if I can eat it is to give it a try. Just because some other celiac can eat it, does not mean I can!
  9. I also suffer from joint pain. Before diagnosis my knuckles were swollen to about twice their normal size. I had to stop wearing rings. I had gone up a finger, and then I couldn't even do that. Getting them off was painful. Also hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, you name it. Walking was painful. I'm a woodwind player and it really slowed down my fingering...
  10. As a child, I had dental enamel defects, and my celiac child also does.
  11. My father had that. When I found out that my son and I had celiac he got himself tested and had a negative blood test. Then he got diverticulitis and wasn't responding to any of the treatments that his doctor tried. Knowing that celiac is in the family, he decided to try eating gluten free and his symptoms went away. I did a quick google search and everything...
  12. I haven't heard of the company that makes the mac and cheese. Does anyone think that it could be a CC problem? I know that I get gas and bloating from minor gluten contamination.
  13. Celiacs vary in their sensitivity to trace gluten. What many can eat, some can't. That can be why symptoms return. Some of us have to do a lot of cooking from scratch. Some of us avoid grains. Others avoid nuts, beans nightshades etc. Most consider themselves lactose intolerant until healing occurs. I make my own bread from whole grains which I sort...
  14. What about the gluten free toast or gluten free English muffins? Those sound processed to me. I can't eat processed gluten free grains myself, though I can eat them when I buy them whole and treat them carefully.
  15. I only eat nuts that I shell myself. I have had problems with other nuts. I make my own nut milks too.
  16. I know that I got terribly sick when I accidentally inhaled a tiny bit of flour when I threw all mine away. I think that it might depend on how sensitive you are.
  17. Lots of celiacs find that they become more sensitive to trace gluten as time goes on. That happened to me. You may be eating some trace gluten without realizing it. Something that didn't bother you before may have started to bother you now. I hope you can figure out what it is.
  18. I have had visual migraines since college, about 30 years. It is like my vision looks like a mirage. I don't get the pain part of the migraine, just the vision part. Usually I lie down and it goes away in about 1 hour. Once I was in the middle of something and I just kept doing it and the migraine still went away. They seem to happen more when I'm stressed...
  19. That happened to me too. Initially I felt totally cured just by removal of cereal and bread. Then I guess my immune system settled down and I began to react to lower levels of gluten. That is when it got challenging.
  20. It can be very strange which things can make you sick. This last winter I switched to store tomatoes from the farmers market tomatoes. Gradually all my symptoms crept up on me. I couldn't get away from the bathroom. When I stopped eating the tomatoes I got better. I had been eating three different kinds, all organic. I added them back in one at a...
  21. It's been almost 3 years now, so I don't remember that well anymore, but I think that it was about 2 months before I noticed a difference. Hope things resolve soon for you.
  22. How about trying to buy chicken with skin on. Wash it, remove the skin, and wash it again. I found I tolerated chicken better when I wash it. I stopped eating it anyway. I go with wild salmon these days. I don't know what goes on in those processing places. Too many workers eating sandwiches. lol.
  23. If you are wondering about your rice milk, and you have some rice that you know is safe, (Lundberg is the commonly recommended one here for super sensitives) you can make your own rice milk quite easily. Even if you aren't that sure about your rice, you can wash it well before making your rice milk. I doubt that rice milk manufacturers do that. It's cheaper...
  24. Sorry, I didn't see the injection part. I thought it was something ingested anyway.
  25. I had depression and other mental health symptoms before diagnosis. After being gluten free they went away and come back now when glutened. The big one that comes back these days is irritability, but also some anxiety, and paranoia. I can't tell you if you are celiac. You might want to make sure that the detox things that you are taking are gluten...
