  1. My sister had a brain scan that scared the horse hockeys out of her last year. She was in tears when she finally told me about the "white spots", UBO's. She was especially upset when she couldn't get into the neurologist for 8 weeks. I read up on it and tried to reassure her but she would have none of it. She lives for the drama. When she went and the...
  2. I had the problem before going gluten-free but it is a little more pronounced now. I do rely on a lot of protein but I probably could do better with less sugar. I really love the stuff! I use stevia for drinks but haven't really figured out how to bake with it.
  3. You did the right thing in insisting on testing. The reason total IGA can be valuable is because some folks are IGA deficient. If you score low on total IGA, you probably will never have positive bloodwork for celiac disease. The RAST tests are for allergies but I only know what I've read about them. It doesn't seem like they are that accurate....
  4. I don't have any medical answers for you. I just wanted to say that that is the path I went down years ago. I had a diseased gall bladder removed and hoped it would help all my problems but no. Two years ago I discovered the gluten-free diet and it changed everything for me. The doctors had no interest in knowing what caused my gallbladder to be diseased...
  5. I'm pretty boring for breakfast, I have the same thing every day. Three scrambled eggs in olive oil and coconut oil with sauteed tomatoes and onions and Hormel Naturals ham. I drink Constant Comment tea with that. Lunch is usually leftovers. Dinner is usually fried or baked pork chops or chicken and vegetables. Sometimes a little rice. Snacks are...
  6. That's it. From now on I'm only going to see my vet!
  7. It could be DH, that's was what finally led me to DX myself. I could not handle the pain and itch any longer. As soon as it came to my attention that it could be gluten, I went gluten-free and lo and behold, that was the answer to so many of my problems! If you want to wait for testing then keep eating gluten, if you choose to start the diet just go...
  8. My healing from DH was slow but progressive. It took about 8 weeks for the lesions to clear up, a little longer for the discoloration. But, I didn't have the rash as long as you. Be patient, although with itching, patience is worn thin. Beware of trace gluten and sneaky gluten.
  9. I still had D for some time after going gluten-free. I had normally formed stools also. It was weird but I was getting trace gluten for some time as I felt my way through the maze. Wish I had found this forum right away! It would be worth a trial completely dairy free to see if that relieves some of the problem. You could have another food sensitivity...
  10. When I asked my sister to please NOT cut angel food cake around the strawberries that I could eat, she rolled her eyes and said, "Oh yes -- I forgot -- no GLUTEN for you." I swiftly smacked her at the bottom of her skull -- where the cerebellum is. She said, "What was THAT for?" I said, "Why don't I continually smack you there until you sustain the same...
  11. You should ask for copies of your tests. You can post the results here and there is usually someone who can read those results. I had sores on my scalp for years. At one point I thought I must be sensitive to something in shampoos. I stop using them but still had the problem. Once I went gluten-free the problem has mostly solved. I still have an itchy...
  12. Happy birthday, Lisa!! "I have a feelin' that tonight's gonna be a good night!"
  13. Many people experience low blood sugar in the night which messes with their "sleeping clock". You may need a high protein snack before bed. Have you been extra hungry? If so, you will need some hunger killing food to sleep through the night.
  14. For me, dairy contributes to this also. I'm not completely dairy free but I may need to bite the bullet on that one. I do love my cheese!
  15. I also wanted to say to have your thyroid checked. Many of those signs could be a thyroid condition. That's a simple blood test. You didn't mention if you're seeing any relief on the gluten-free diet. Let us know.
  16. You're not weird. Many of us have multiple intolerances. I have restricted all grains, rice, dairy and coffee. I think it's more common than not.
  17. How long have you been eating gluten free?
  18. I read a thread a while back where some posters said shortness of breath was a symptom they had when eating soy. Soy is hidden in a lot of foods. Maybe some of those folks will speak up again.
  19. I second the advice about the dairy. I think you will see some relief there. Make sure there is no lactose in any pills you take.
  20. A child that young will often test negative for celiac disease even if they have it. That's no comfort. What would you think about working with your dr to put her on an elimination diet to see if this problem can be related to a food sensitivity? If you come from a different angle to your dr, he might be more interested in your search for answers. Especially...
  21. Are you sure you are not sensitive to another food?
  22. We always criticize the faults we secretly see in ourselves. Maybe when they "tease" and minimize your illness, they feel less afraid of it happening to themselves. Why is it important to them what you eat? Are they afraid you might eat their share of vegetables? Maybe they feel you do it to get attention and they don't want to share the spotlight? ...
  23. I'm glad your improving and hope your shopping trip is fun. When I get the "mood" I give the warning out to anyone who has to spend time with me. Thank goodness I haven't had a bad glutening for awhile now. Also part of my symptoms are fatigue so I can actually sleep through part of my witch alter ego.
  24. You know I didn't think about it until you said it. I used to have dry hands too. I kept Bag Balm in my shop because it was the only thing that helped. My skin would crack on my thumbs close to the corners of the nail. I don't see that problem now. Even though my hands are in water just as much with the flowers and coffee bar. Actually more now because...
  25. If I ate 2-3 servings of grains like you do daily, I would be back to the pain I used to feel. Your pain could be caused by another reason, but you could lay off grains for a week and see how you feel.
