The ease of walking into a restaraunt and ordering ANYTHING without having to worry about getting sick. I don't miss much in the way of food (pizza excluded), but the convenience is what gets me. OK, but if I had to pick, Pizza Hut deep dish pizza.

ARCHIVED Feeling Like A Fraud
SGWhiskers replied to sherrylynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was first diagnosed, I was given a great packet of information from my doctor which stated that celiacs tend to have higher cholesterol rates after going on the gluten-free diet. At my 6 month check up, I was expecting my borderline cholesterol to have gone through the roof. It had dropped 50 some points without even trying and was within the normal... -
ARCHIVED Vertigo And Gluten Connection
SGWhiskers replied to glutengal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Look into Gluten Ataxia. I'm not 100%sure, but I believe vertigo is one of the symptoms of gluten ataxia. I know clumsiness is. Vertigo is one of my "just got glutened" symptoms, but not as bad as before diagnosis. -

ARCHIVED Vegan gluten-free Pumpkin Pie?
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Every year, I try a new pumpkin pie recipe because I've been so dissapointed in my prior attempts. I had to throw away 4 mini pies last year because they were so gross. I'm asking for help again with a gluten free, egg free, dairy free pumpkin pie. I would love something traditional tasting, but I'm open for anything that will be yummy pumpkin. I searched... -
ARCHIVED Niece Said Her Whole Body Hurt
SGWhiskers replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think it was just banana bread, although I'll ask her mother about it when I talk to her. I suspect that she recognized that she felt bad right after eating and blamed it on the banana bread. I didn't get to talk to my sister in law today because my mother (her grandma) was there all day and while she is very supportive of my diet, she is convinced... -
ARCHIVED Whole Body Hurting?
SGWhiskers replied to suzyq63's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think for people with neurolgic symptoms, body/joint/muscle pain is very common. When I get gluten, my body feels like a combination of flu, migraine, and hangover. I don't really get digestive symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Niece Said Her Whole Body Hurt
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What do you make of this and how hard would you push? Yesterday, I was visiting my 3.5 year old niece. Her mom picked me up at 11:00 and the 3 of us went shopping until 1:00 when we got banana bread for the 3.5 year old. She ate it on the way home and 15 minutes later stood in her kitchen looking wilted holding her new barbie and anounced to her mom that... -
Well, no one can say for sure why you are having trouble conceiving. My husband and I tried for 8 years and went through climid, IUI's and when we went to try IVF, the doc's did blood tests that said I was in perimenopause at 31. They recommended an egg donor. We didn't have the money to persue it. 3 years later I was diagnosed with Celiac. (I'm sure I had...

It took 6 months before the neuro symptoms were noticably improved. I still have significant problems though 2 years later. Every time I get cross contamination, I get 5-7 days of terrible neuro symptoms and then 2-4 weeks of diminishing neurosymptoms. Unfortunatly, I'm hypersensitive and manage to CC myself every 6 weeks or so.

ARCHIVED Need Help With A Newspaper Submission. . ..
SGWhiskers replied to elye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
MS was the first working diagnosis I had. I then went on to have 9 different diagnosis over 4 years. After feeling I wasn't beeing taken seriously by my primary physician, I switched doctors and was tested on the first visit for Celiac. Bingo. After 2 years strictly gluten free, most of the neurologic symptoms have improved, but are not gone. I suspect permanent... -
ARCHIVED My Celiac Story - What A Long Journey
SGWhiskers replied to Melissaann829's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You have been though a really awful journey and I'm so sorry you have been through all of that. I'm glad to see that you have started on the road to recovery. It is amazing what a strict gluten free diet can do. It takes time to recover, but there will be a healthier version of you before you know it. The first few months are definately the toughest. Adjusting... -
ARCHIVED Trying Not To Get Discouraged
SGWhiskers replied to Sarah B's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Last year, there were a series of threads about celiac students in your same situation. I think more than one student with a mandatory meal plan was able to get out of the meal plan. I think one had to go through quite a bit of effort and red tape. I think for another it was a bit easier. You will need a medical diagnosis, but if the food is not safe (and... -

Oh! Didn't realize/forgot that site was password protected. It's free if anyone wants to subscribe. The bottom line was that there was a... -
ARCHIVED How Hard Is It To Be Careful?
SGWhiskers replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hugs. I'm so sorry. You've had a pretty tough couple of weeks. I hope you showed the manager the noodle or talked to him about it. You ask how hard it is to be careful? It really depends on your sensitivity. I get cc from the things that wouldn't bother others. Eating out is next to impossible for me. For many, careful planning is all that is needed.... -

ARCHIVED Tocopherol - Burts Bees Pomegranate Lip Balm
SGWhiskers replied to alissar's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ditto although Burts does have some products with wheat, so you can't just grab Burt's and be safe, but his lips products I believe from my last check are safe. If you e-mail them, they will send a nice list of safe/unsafe products. -
I realize this poster isn't likely to get this response, but I'm adding it in case there are others that have this very good question. I was diagnosed with endometriosis around 22 after suffering painful periods for years. The best thing for it is hormonal control (eg. the pill) if you can tolerate it. I couldn't and needed occassional narcotics and laparoscopies...

ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed With Celiac... Now I'm Pregnant
SGWhiskers replied to nikelodeon79's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I chugged orange juice when I first figured out I was pregnant. I was also loving tomato based dishes. Heartburn city resulted. I cut back to one glass of OJ in the morning, plenty of folic acid, my prenatal, and a couple of protien shakes during the day (they had folic acid). I also made sure I drank plenty of liquids during the days between meals to that... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice - Cross Contamination
SGWhiskers replied to LaceyGirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Little kids are on the floor and put things and hands in their mouths constantly. I worked with a family who coincidentally had a toddler with celiac and I watched mom give all the great gluten free foods, but did the common thing parents do and pick up the dropped food or pacifier, brush it off and hand it back to the little one. I know that earlier in the... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diet 2nd Time Around
SGWhiskers replied to BcG3987's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would tend to agree with kitgordon. I don't have any real knowledge base here, but my suspicion is that you just need more time to let the additional damage heal. You also have motivation to stay gluten free knowing that it will likely be harder the 3rd time around. It took me a long long time to feel better. Keep it up and look through all your food, products... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Is So Humiliating Sometimes
SGWhiskers replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got that comment right in the middle of my infertility battle from someone who knew me, but not my situation. It was pretty hard. People can be pretty awful. At least you can blame it on his alcohol and your gluten. I hope your normal belly is back soon. -
I'm so sorry. Lots of love going your way.

ARCHIVED How Do I Know When Im Glutened?
SGWhiskers replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had to spend 3 months with eating only food I cooked myself from scratch before I could pinpoint the gluten source. I CCed myself constantly before that without realizing it. Once I was super strict, I could reintroduce things and be able to tell if eating out or grilling or other things caused a reaction. I learned I was more sensitive than I thought and... -
ARCHIVED Think I Just Added Dh To My Symptoms
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As if I needed more frustration right now. This is the second time in my pregnancy that I've been cross contaminated. I'm still in the midst of feeling like mud and now I'm itching. Last time I was glutened, I got 2 little itchy bumps inside my elbow. I figured they were nothing and would go away. A month later, they hadn't and I started to wonder about them...
