  1. Along that same topic - we use a crock pot all the time in the winter. Throw in chicken in the morning and wow, stew, meatloaf, chili, BBQ, etc. and then it is all ready - just about 15 minute in the morning of prep and you are done.
  2. My hubby takes one or two evenings (usually Sunday and a weeknight) to fix a bunch of meat (grill or bake) and we keep enough out for a few days and freeze the rest. We also try to fix a few sides about 3 times a week to use for leftovers for lunches and dinners. When he is busy working his 80+ hours during the fall and winter, I do the cooking and do the...
  3. Just curious - are you giving up vinegar because of the yeast or do you have another reason. Actually I don't really measure but taste so here is a basic to start with... Kate's BBQ: 1. -2 cans diced tomatoes with sweet onions -1 can diced tomatoes with olive oil (I have tried just adding my own and hubby said it doesn't taste "as good" -about ...
  4. I chose not to pursue a definite answer for myself - but - I want a positive for my kids for school and their dad. He won't even believe they have any problems now and they avoid food on their own until they go over there and come home sick for days. He said,"I don't believe he has a problem with lactose because he is fine at our house" of course, he said...
  5. I can't have any type of vinegar and use lemon juice instead for everything. I have created a BBQ sauce that everyone raves about. Salad dressings are fairly simple and the lemon is nice. I use extra virgin olive oil (cold pressed), lemon, whichever fresh herbs I have on hand (parsley, chives, cilantro, dill, etc., not all at once but a combination),...
  6. I had to do the same thing after a couple of months of being gluten-free because once the gluten was gone, I started to notice other times when I would have tummy troubles and with the big one out of the way, the rest were showing up. It really helped me. I still add new foods in and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I just eliminated something...
  7. Thanks for all these great suggestions - I have been afraid to try my vance's because I am so sensitive. Thanks!!!! And if that doesn't work, I can make my own rice (I don't really have too many nuts left so I think we will stay away from those for now). I am not a big fan of coconut but I wasn't a big fan of soymilk when I started with that either -...
  8. I love my buckwheat cereal.
  9. I switched to cashew butter. Do you have problems with other peanut products like anything fried in peanut oil? That might be another way to test for the peanut issue.
  10. I found the metagel works for me and the sun is fine, as long as I don't get any type of burn. We were on the lake for a week and I kept SPF 30 on for the whole week until the last day when we were running low so I saved it for the kids and went with SPF 15 (I am usually on SPF 8 or none by now) and by the end of the day I was itching and had bumbs all over...
  11. I had my own soy milk maker for years and when I discovered my soy intolerance, gave it to my ex-husband's current wife because she likes soy milk and thought she might enjoy making her own. I LOVED mine.
  12. For me, I used a combination - I went down to plain foods with some extras and kept track (food diary that was a pain but worked) of all reactions, even ones I didn't think were connected to my food. It worked. I did that with my son, more limited, and did a lactose challenge - it worked. He is lactose intolerant and must take 3 lactaid pills for any dairy...
  13. Your jerky recipe is very similar to my hubbys but I think he adds a little brown sugar to his, if he ever thought to right it down - he also is a throw things together kind of cook. He has the meat shop slice the meat for him now, before, he would freeze it about half way to make the slicing easier. He would make up about 10lbs of fresh into jerky and bag...
  14. I haven't found a canned fish that I can eat yet. Tried the health food stuff, just water, wild, etc. still got sick.
  15. I have started (about 6-8 months at least) to have two cups of unsweetened green tea every morning - days with a sore throat, just a little honey. My other tea is sleepy time but usally when I am not feeling well.
  16. Cool - thanks and should be a nice alternative to Vance's if I end up with problems to that too. I used to make my own soy milk before I realized that I can't have soy.
  17. I know - I am the only one, oh wait, my dental hygentist and her daughter have food issues but I see her once every 6 months and my mouth is full of her hands so I can't really chat back, but other than that, people just don't get it and there is only me. I love this MB and would have issues without it.
  18. OK, my last two options locally for dairy/gluten free milk were: West Soy plain rice milk and Pacific Foods hazlenut milk are now OUT. They make me sick and everything else locally has soy or vanilla in them. Any suggestions? My local store does not carry Pacific Foods Plain Rice milk - OH - I have some of Vance's but haven't made it yet so really, I...
  19. OK, I am looking for a pasta sauce that I can serve over spiral pasta - we add ground meat over the top of that, then the sauce. One that is fairly chunky - I don't usually cook from recipes too much either, once I get the feel for what I am doing - like my homemade breakfast sausage, BBQ sauce, etc. is never the same twice but they are always good so...
  20. That is the alternate soy sauce recipe that I used - it worked really well - even my soy sauce loving hubby loved this. We actually went a little crazy for about 2 weeks with this recipe!!! Tiffany, can you post your regular pasta sauce too? Or, is it the same as your lasagna sauce...thanks.
  21. I have the same problem and am thinking of giving up my hazlenut milk-I can't find a rice milk that doesn't make me sick any more but can still eat rice. If I keep my food to just fresh meat and veggies and starches, I do OK, as soon as I add other stuff in, which we all do at least occasionally, I get sick.
  22. I used to love Malibu Grill but haven't been there since going gluten-free - I will have to go give it a try!!!! Carla, thanks for the tip. As to the topic - I haven't run into anyone in a restaurant but notice that servers are becoming more aware and have at least heard of gluten and some people must avoid it. I have run into gluten intolerant/celiac...
  23. I am similar to Tiffany - I keep all meat fats down to a minimum, except for lard and baking, which I don't do a lot of, because my system doesn't handle it well. But olive oil and avacados don't bother me. My gall bladder is fine.
  24. Fleishman's Light "used" to be dairy free but I haven't checked since I gave up soy. Don't know about the milk sorry - it does get better, same as going gluten-free. For baking, I use oil and lard (I can't have palm oil or crisco) for substitutions for melted or non-melted butter and with good results.
  25. I only use splenda. I don't like the pink and blue packets and due to pre-diabetes and being very sensitive to blood sugar dops, I had to eliminate all real sugar. I have read the bad and the good, for me, it works.
