  1. I used an elimiation diet, sort of. I went to plain meat and plain veggies then added a few things in and noticed problems as they came and went - not the best way but at the time that is all I knew. NOW, I would go to plain foods for up to a week (BORING but necessary--others will say longer), then start to add other things back in. One of the things I noticed...
  2. I had several nurse friends and NPs who suggested I might have a gluten problem so I tried it, by the time I got to my doc, then switched to a new PCP because he said, oh, it is all allergies, I had been gluten-free for 3 months. I told my new PCP that I was not going to go back on gluten for a dx but did have a EGD which showed no damage. I had wanted...
  3. I have problems with regular mattresses so I have been on a futon since before my kids were even thoughts - about 20 years. My boys have futons at both homes and my husband has been converted too. BUT, I really like a firm bed.
  4. You can check with Mary Kay--get your very own MK lady and they can take care of all that for you, they will give you a list of ingredients for all their products that you are interested in ordering. I don't use their make up too much, I use their body products but will be switching over as I use up what I have since it has not been bothering me that I am...
  5. My SD can have yogurt and cheese but not much milk, my son cannot have ANY dairy without his lactose pills. Glad you figured this out!
  6. I have had 2 and made sure I told the nurse and the doc that I wanted to be put out - no problems, afterwards, of course I was starved and went home to EAT. No problem. I also have problems with sore joints when my food gets off - not nearly so bad now though.
  7. I keep my own cups at work - no dishwasher. I drink plain green tea or sleepytime at work - no shared cups - I gave up coffee at work because of GERD and only drink a cup and a half at home now. I don't kiss hubby on lips unless I know he has been gluten-free and has washed out his mouth/off his lips since he had gluten, or anything else that bothers...
  8. I always had swollen glands/lymph nodes in my neck, painful, for days at a time which were not associated with being sick - doesn't happen now that my diet has been fixed.
  9. Sometimes that really is best.
  10. Actually, I am not worried about Klenex - now the puffs lotion stays on my hands and face and therefore could easily get into my mouth so I will change that but the rest, hey, I figure is probably a little too much to worry about as long as the tissue doesn't crumble and pieces fall into my mouth then I eat a lot of them, well, really, what are the chances...
  11. Here is something else I found on the avoiding corn site: "I contacted Kimberly-Clark Corp. to check on Kleenex, and was told that Kleenex may contain cornstarch. The representative also said that the cardboard boxes may contain corn products, as they are made of recycled fiber." Then, I checked my Puffs Plus and it has soybean oil, which I can't have...
  12. I use the local, wildflower honey (which of course has much better flavor) for all my baking, teas, sausage, etc. and I have their lipbalm...I figure every little bit helps.
  13. We eat there occasionally and I don't have any problems. I always order my food unseasoned and no butter/dairy. Last time I had the shrimp coctail without any sauce and it was fine. I often order plain fish and have had their steamed veggies, plain, no seasoning, no butter. I just show up and talk to the manager/server about my issues and have always...
  14. I react to some styrofoams too, not all, just some.
  15. I switched to Zyrtec a year or two ago and no problem. My youngest son is now on it (not that he has gluten issues) but those are his last drugs before allergy shots like mom--5 year now. I figure I have about 2-3 more years left then I am DONE!!! But, boy, what a difference!!! It just took a while for them to work on me and to find the right dose and then...
  16. I found this on the Avoiding Corn message board: Open Original Shared Link
  17. I don't know which part of the corn I react to, but, I react to all forms corn - I don't avoid the corn in my meds yet but I do for everything else. I made a mistake last night and didn't think about it until I was half way through but I got an lemon shake up at the fair, talked to the lady and watched her make it - only plain regular sugar and lemons...
  18. My banana problem just affects my GI. However, tomatoes I have to limit, I can eat them a few days a week but more than that and I am in trouble. I notice one of my first symtoms now is my sore knees, if they are acting up then maybe it isn't something funky, something doesn't like me any more and I need to figure it out.
  19. Enjoy Life Foods has dairy, soy, corn, gluten free chocolate chips!!! Work great, taste great. Maybe you can order online if you can't find anything locally. Now, I cannot have most legumes but some are still OK for me - you have to try each one to see if it bothers you. For a long time, I could still eat peas and have only recently given those up. Peanuts...
  20. I burb when I eat something I shouldn't, that and bloating/gas is my first symptom - my guess, too much gas and it has to find a way out, up or down.
  21. My glands in my neck would swell up and become sore regularly, 1-8 times a month and lasting for 1-3 days each before I figured out my food issues, has only happened 1 or 2 times since all this has been fixed.
  22. OK - my rant is my sister (and mother but not as much). She has been sick almost as long as I was and I have talked to her and sent her notes and offered my help. Now, about a year ago she finally gave up casein in addition to lactose, not because I suggested it but because her homeopathic (sp??) doc suggested it. Now, her doc suggested she eliminate gluten...
  23. I read about the "possiblity" of "watering down" the olive oil in the US - so I looked for and found one that I use exclusively, EVOO, cold pressed, imported from Greece and less than 1% accidity: Iliada Kalamata Extra Virgin Olive oil The 'Golden Selection' of the Iliada Kalamata Extra Virgin olive oil First and cold pressing-naturally low acidity...
  24. I have started to eat there more often and don't have any problems - just salt at the table.
  25. I use the one in Bette Hagman's ...Cooks Comfort Foods and add water in place of the vinegar, since I can't have vinegar. Let me know if you need the actual recipe or if you have her book...sorry, don't remember the page number.
