As much of a pain my MIL has been, I have never had an issue with her making my eating difficult--or anyone else in my family. This is more, you yelled at my grandson and we moved a dog into the house. Even me being outspoken wasn't a big deal until you throw the other things into the mix. Maybe though, nobody says anything about my food because I am outspoken...

You know, I realized that I must replace my nice rolling pin just about 2 weeks ago today. I had one last test and that was when I made my homemade chicken noodle soup with homemade egg noodles and yes, I got sick. Not too bad but enough that I couldn't eat any leftovers and had to resort to imodium and have vowed to replace it before I make any more....

I am very cautious about touching anything that the rest of the family will touch. Such as, I use the remote, wash my hands before I eat, touch the joint pantry handles, wash my hands before cooking or eating, etc. I have not told my family about this yet, I keep this one to myself but they do wash their hands before touching dishes and pots and pans etc...

ARCHIVED Gurgling Stomach
kabowman replied to Kristen2Denise's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Bathroom time and about 4 imodiums works for me - 2 to start then another one or two as needed later (apparently I am the only one I know of that it does't mess me up for DAYS). I just seems to amke me a little closer to normal. -
OMG!!!! This is what I used to do before I realized that wine was OUT for me. Now I take margaritas, I am not eating Thanksgiving that day anyway, might as well go all out. My DH family has several family reunions a year, each one brings with it a cooler for DH and me. Not that I don't love them but too much of them could drive us to divorce--which DH found...

ARCHIVED Soy Flour Substitution?
kabowman replied to hineini's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I usually avoid all recipes that call for soy flour but I do substitute white rice flour for dry milk without any problems. Not sure that will help you but I don't use any bean flours at all. -
I had to go somewhere else last year for Thanksgiving and I took my own food in a cooler and heated it up and ate with everyone else. I then went home and fixed myself a Thanksgiving meal that I could eat. We refused to take any leftovers so the second meal was nice for that. I ended up having a nice time, even if I didn't eat what everyone else was eating...

ARCHIVED Ground Beef Troubles? Help, Anyone!
kabowman replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a problem with the stryofoam the meat department uses for their meat. I have no problems with the styrofoam from the packaged chicken I buy, only the one meat department ones. I am not really sure so I now only go to the meat counter for any store meat and have them put it in cardboard. Or, I did until they were acting put out so now I go to a butcher... -
ARCHIVED Tell Me How To Not Think I Am Being A Pain..
kabowman replied to SarahTorg's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It takes practice but I am very nice, explain that I am the difficult one and then tell the wait staff exactly what food I want and how to prepare my food, I tip well and people remember me--I also use the word allergy since more people understand that better. I no longer mind when I meet the chef and/or manager and/or owner each time we eat out. I am usually... -
Maybe it is the corn and not the soy that is my problem with broths then. I still make my own - just works better.

ARCHIVED Question For People Who Have Been Diagnosed For A Long Time
kabowman replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am more sensitive now than I was in the beginning. Avoiding gluten (and all my others) is not hard, especially now that I clean obsessively and keep separate counter areas. The kids know what they can and cannot do, they know which pans they can and cannot put their food into, etc. so the support of the whole family really is the best thing I could hope... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Soy Free Soy Sauce?
kabowman replied to BeckyW's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My whole family loved it and it tastes very close to the real deal. -
I think there is some form of soy in most comercial broths - not sure what it really is but every time I try one, I get sick so I just make my own. Watch out for those cooking sprays, they all have soy too - except for one passover one I found that is just olive oil. I make the three ingredient peanut butter cookies that has its own thread with cashew...

Ditto, let the courts deal with it. Now, my dad payed for the big one when he wanted custody so he wouldn't have to pay support and it looked like his new wife wasn't going to get pregnant - BUT, I still cannot get him to verify his income and he kept trying to talk to me after he started the whole thing - I said no, talk to my lawyer. Too bad.

ARCHIVED Accused Of Neglect
kabowman replied to sillyactsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When my ex tried that with my boys, I called and saw their doctors and requested notes of how often Mom brought them in and how often Dad brought them in - some documented this, others did not but the ones that didn't, we started and still do. Even though my kids are older, he could try to pull this one again, sometime, even if we do get along now. The last... -
ARCHIVED Chebe Pizza Crust Mix
kabowman replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use it exclusivly. I have a receipe for one (yeast free) but it is so chewy. It isn't "normal" like Jen said but for me, it works and is very easy. -
ARCHIVED Need Adivce With Dealing With The Ceo
kabowman replied to VydorScope's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yeah, can't help, I know what you are talking about. I have similar issues with my boss/director but he manages most of his own techie stuff and only calls me for software issues. Sorry... -
ARCHIVED Need Adivce With Dealing With The Ceo
kabowman replied to VydorScope's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I agree, it was a thought. Can you set up spyware and adaware to run on their own or will he turn them off if they come up...I do mine manually and haven't looked at setting up an automatic run like our antivirus stuff. -
ARCHIVED Need Adivce With Dealing With The Ceo
kabowman replied to VydorScope's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well, when we had a guy, not the CEO, we set him up as just a user and he couldn't install anything and we didn't give him the admin password. This is after having to re-build his laptop every 4 to 6 months (or re-ghost). That was a few years ago and I haven't had to re-do his laptop since. We have even given him the admin password, once he realized that... -
ARCHIVED For Those Of You With Dogs
kabowman replied to lonewolf's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We used to walk our dog in the creek and when we would get to a really deep spot, throw his geode he was carrying around in and he would have the most fun finding that particular rock and come back with the right one, eventually. I don't think he has ever been happier than when we did that at our local lake this summer, in a shallow area. -
ARCHIVED Peanut Butter Cookies
kabowman replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I found this: Honey: Substituting honey for sugar seems to be a matter of taste. Some people use it cup for cup, others prefer 1/2 cup - 2/3 cup of honey per cup of white sugar. Reduce the amount of other liquids by 1/4 cup for every cup of honey used. Lower the oven temp about 25 degrees F to prevent over-browning and add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda for... -
ARCHIVED Corn Sensitivity?
kabowman replied to monicacpht3641's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have a corn intolerance but I don't have to avoid it completely yet. I can handle the corn starch in my meds and my toothpaste and soaps have corn. I also don't worry about the corn in most paper products and my bounce yet but have to be careful with using some styrofoams - some seem OK while others are not. Some citric acid is corn derived and I don't... -
ARCHIVED Portable Kitchen For Travelling/staying In Motels
kabowman replied to YankeeDB's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
That is what we plan for our next big vacation. We will take our camping stove and cookware for most of our meals. We travel with coolers though and buy ice a lot instead of the portable 'fridge that plugs into the car. -
ARCHIVED For Those Of You With Dogs
kabowman replied to lonewolf's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My dog sounds like yours, he likes to play keep-away with his balls, which he has a strange affliction for. We got him from the shelter when he was about 3 years old and only 80 pounds, up to a nice 115 now, and he would pee every time he even saw a ball. We actually had to keep them out of the house so he would stop peeing on the carpet. He has outgrown... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Treat Cast Iron Pans To Remove Gluten?
kabowman replied to spunky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I couldn't even begin to guess - I bought a new one. We only had a few anyway, my last husband, came with bunches but he kept all those.
