  1. Holy cow!!!! I made these with my cashew butter and wow, they were amazing. I had to remind myself to not eat them all up right away - I am usually very good at eating just a few. I used my airbake cookie sheets, perfect. Next time, I am adding my chocolate chips. I am also going to have to try those sugar cookies!
  2. I developed, or noticed is probably more accurate, an intolerance to almonds after going gluten-free. I can have hazelnuts, cashews--I use cashew butter, and pistachios (in one of my snack bars) but not almonds and pecans and walnuts seem to bother me if I eat too much of them. I don't eat peanuts in any form.
  3. I loved the cleaning out all of the gluten (and for me all the rest of stuff I can't eat) out of the cabinets. I only kept a few things for the kids and hubby but the baking stuff all went. I was very cathartic!!!! Ditto to checking out beauty products. Watch kissing if your significant other (maybe yes, maybe no) has been consuming something with gluten...
  4. I have pre-diabetes (actually I haven't had it checked in a couple of years so it might be actual diabetes now). Everything that is gluten-free, seems to have a lot more carbs. I think rice is higher in carbs than wheat so what I have had to do is to avoid most of that, which I have to do anyway due to yeast intolerance. My only exceptions are the tikinda...
  5. I use lard in place of shortening (solid fat) for all baking.
  6. It does get better. I avoid most of that and they are right, your taste buds change and you don't miss those foods the longer you avoid them. I occasionally treat myself like Carla and wow, do I really enjoy that but most of the time, I am fine. I eat out occasionally but at very select places that are used to dealing with me. Most of the time, 99.5%...
  7. I take Nexium but when I get heartburn even with my meds, my doc said to take Priolosec in addition to the Nexium (that bothered my tummy so I actually use Zantac)--my last EDG showed a lot of damage but I ignored the symptoms for a few years. If you are concerned, you could see a GI doc for an EGD to see if you should be taking this 24/7. I guess...
  8. Someone posted a recipe for one here and it worked well - I have it at home, I am at work but maybe you can search. I know it used ginger, molasas, and chicken broth but don't remember the amounts or other ingredients. Everyone in my house loved it!!!

  10. I always do this, we are busy with kid stuff Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. -I bake meals on Sunday's and freeze half. -I make my own sausage on Saturday's then cook and freeze the patties on Sunday for the week's breakfast. -When I make chicken soup or chili, I make a HUGE amount and freeze meal size portions that can be reheated...
  11. I originally tried to share pans be finally realized (after about a year) I was getting sick each time so now we have gluten-OK teflon and non-gluten teflon pans. My kids and hubby like their mac & cheese which I can't have anyway any my youngest loves his ramon noodles (ick but hey). So we have a few of their pots and pans and a few of my pots and pans...
  12. Welcome - it gets better. A few things not mentioned yet are: if you use teflon, get new - gluten will stick in the scratches, ditto for wooden utensils. Basically anything that is porous should be changed out. Cast iron skillet, we keep separate ones, mine and theirs, actually we have some theirs teflon too. Clean, clean, and clean - I also use a separate...
  13. I had to give up certain foods that my, now 15.5 YO son, was and still is, intolerant to--but he showed a reaction so I could identify the foods to avoid.
  14. I think the general consensus is gas, a lot of people believe it is undigested fat but just google it and see what you find.
  15. Carla said what I wanted to say so much better, thanks. All or family meals are gluten free and hubby makes breakfast for 3 of us every morning--my youngest son is up to 7 eggs for breakfast, gluten free. Nobody misses the gluten stuff, our pasta tastes the same, my homemade noodles taste great, etc. I keep bread, cereal, & crackers in the house...
  16. There are different types of people on this board. Some with possitive dx for celiac, some with food intolerances. There is also the group that believes the intolerances are just a different form of celiac disease but with no damage yet - I am generalizing A LOT so don't jump down my throat please. I am intolerant - if I eat gluten, I am not necessarily...
  17. Congratulations!!!!! What a huge step and how much easier life must be now.
  18. I put all kinds of symptoms in my food diary from random fevers, sore joints, to the big D. Amazingly, I realized after I had figured out all those foods, due to the diary, my sore joints were gone - I thought it was arthritis from my mid-20's but it tured out to be food. My fevers were linked to yeast so you never really know. I work with someone whose...
  19. We did Romas and cherries - we got a few cherry tomatoes and one bell pepper from those. I have done tomatoes in pots at my last house because of deer which was better than nothing but not really great either.
  20. It could be anything - soy, corn, dairy? I haven't found any that I can make that don't include ingredients I can eat.
  21. I limit my caffine to about 2 cups of coffee each morning and the occasional glass of iced tea in public; we do decaf iced tea at home (unsweetened), have started to limit my alcohol more, and I limit my tomatoes. I haven't noticed a difference with the way they are prepared but don't have as many problems with fresh. I have it down to less than 1 time...
  22. We have had good luck with our regular (sq. ft.) garden, but not the hanging pots - hubby was only going to do those and I said no, we need to keep going with the real garden, good thing too or we wouldn't have had much!
  23. I have not heard that flour is used, many contain some type of corn...hopefully someone can come up with a definite answer.
  24. I agree - that was completely inconsiderate, no matter what. When we go to other peoples homes, I take my own food that I prepare and cook for myself - sometimes leftovers that I can warm up (everyone has a microwave) and other times, I take food that I cook. Of course, I don't ask but everyone knows my limited diet and is afraid to try to feed me! We...
  25. Mine did not improve - I still take additional OTC meds (on top of my nexium) when I eat tomatoes. The GI doc recommended this because he said my esophegus was very scarred and any more, no matter how small, heartburn would only increase my chances of cancer.
