  1. How great for her, to take her health into her own hands. That is amazing, especially at 15!!! I have an aquantance (I used to say friend) who freaked out when we were talking about kids and I had told the school about my youngest son's lactose intolerance. She thought it was horrible that I was giving my kid this stigma. Can you imagine what she would...
  2. I run a fever when I eat stuff with yeast. The docs never figured it out, ended up in the hospital, still couldn't find anything really wrong, and all my blood tests for infection were normal. I was finally released when the fever went away on its own because they kept running tests I couldn't eat before that I finally went back to normal. I figured it...
  3. I use the CVS non-name brand calcium + D withouth any problems. Almost all meds have corn, I just try to keep them to a minumum and have been OK most of the time. Once you get all this figured out, it gets so much better. I finally figured out the calcium suppliment that is added to all non-dairy milk and OJ was making me sick. I can drink Vance's and...
  4. My knees hurt when I start having food problems. When they start to hurt, I really start checking my diet.
  5. Enjoy Life products are soy free and they have great chocolate chips. Once you start to figure this out, it is easy--you just have to cook. Avoid all vegetible oils (soy) so no fast food. Cheeseburger in Paradise only uses canolla oil but their seasoning has soy oil added, I order my foods without seasoning and am fine. Watch the lotions and soaps...
  6. Tune in to hear Dr. Peter Green interviewed on Oprah and Friends XM Satellite Radio Channel 156!! Dr. Mehmet Oz interviews Dr. Green on Celiac Disease. This interview airs on Thursday, November 30th at 7am, 1pm, and 7pm. Please visit Open Original Shared Link or Open Original Shared Link for more information. This just through our message -...
  7. I eat at Texas and if I have a new server, I let them know I have food allergies and don't have any problems. They clean a portion of the grill for me. I haven't tried Logan's yet - we just got one in town. I eat a plain salad and steak - the green beans I give to hubby because they have bacon. I also shield my food (imagine my arms and hands forming a small...
  8. I forgot about the ribs and roasts. My kids love the corned beef and cabbage (we add potatoes too) in ours--throw everything in and walk away.
  9. There is nothing better than throwing all the stuff into the crock pot before you leave for work in the morning and coming home to a fully cooked meal with plenty for leftovers to freeze or enjoy for lunches. -Chili -Chicken, whole with a little water -Meatloaf -Stew beef, with tomatoes, broth, veggies, and potatoes - always add lots of garlic -Chicken...
  10. You might consider creeping thyme. It is hardy enough to walk on and when you do, you have a trail of fragrance following you. It can take a while to really get it to look nice though. I had it at my last place but have not started it yet at my new house. I don't have a spot for it yet.
  11. Ditto to the scarf, that will really help. My son is on flovent and we range between 1 puff each day (went to no meds for about 3 months this summer) when his symptoms are mild to 3-4 puffs a day when they are bad, usually in the winter. He also uses his albuteral 2-4 times a day when he starts coughing and before swimming (on a club team). Right now...
  12. Actually, I don't know about the chocolate chips, maybe someone else can chime in. I have multiple food intolerances and those are the only ones I can eat. As to gluten-free vanilla, I make my own vanilla and it is very simple. Google it, but I have a small bottle with a cork stopper and vodka (potato, not grain/corn) with split vanilla beans in it, in...
  13. Go to the library and check out some Bette Hagman cookbooks. Best around. Baking is science and I have heard of a few flour blends (with our special flours) that can be substituted but I havent' tried those. Those cookbooks saved my life. Real egg noodles again for homemade chicken noodle soup. It is close enough to Christmas that you can check out a...
  14. Great job doing all the specialty cooking for her. And great job not stooping to her level, no matter how GREAT it would actually feel. Trust me, it would feel really good too. I did that for thanksgiving and they brought all kinds of food with them to make my FIL sick (true milk and corn allergies). My food was safe but he chose to eat that food and...
  15. I completely understand. I go though my ups and downs too but I think mine is tied to my anemia that I am still dealing with - today is not an up day. Went to Nick's for lunch on Thursday - looks like our schedules are off by a little bit. Hope you still had a great visit and don't worry about trying to fit something in, families are first.
  16. Wow, thanks Carla - we were there Saturday evening. I had tried to order the sweetpototo chips before but the manager or owner had said no, next time we go out for a mini date, I will be ordering those chips!!!! No seasoning due to the soy. This time, I could have met you at Nick's for lunch too - no plans and no emergency trips to the docs office. Maybe...
  17. EVERY spray cooking spray I have found still has soy in it except for the passover safe one I found a couple of years ago and was ONLY olive oil. Lacking that, buy the pump.
  18. I have joint pain as one of my symptoms - not sure to which intolerance but now when my knees and hands start hurting, I start looking at my diet and can usually clear things up within a few days. And, I am extremely careful because I am very sensitive. I get the brain fog from yeast and it can last for days. All my foods trigger digestive issues. Good...
  19. I have separate stuff pans for the gluten foods that are prepared in my kitchen, their cutting board is even stored in a different location than mine. I use wooden utensils but if they get contaminated by the neighborhood kid cooking ramen noodles, I throw the $9, hand carved, spatula away (actually Goodwill).
  20. I am in with Carla. I do NOT cook with gluten (or soy, corn, yeast, etc.). If they want mac & cheese (or anything else with that bad, nasty stuff in it), hubby fixes it, after moving all my food away from it and takes care of it afterwards.
  21. I either add olive oil and salt, BBQ salt, or stir in salsa at the table...I like to cook my rice in my homemade chicken broth when I have extra available.

    ARCHIVED Big Rant!

I have your same intolerances but have very few problems with split chicken breasts and whole chickens fresh from the grocery store. I watch for the sales and buy up like 4 whole chickens at a time. I completely avoid all frozen chicken because a lot of them add broth of some kind and there is something in all comercial boths that make me sick. I make...
  23. The corned beef I buy is corn/gluten/soy/etc. free and I just pick it up at my local grocery store. I throw it into the crock pot with cabbage and potatoes - boy, my one son doesn't like meat too much but when we have this, he can't get enough.
  24. There was a recipe in one of Living Without's issues for gluten-free filo - maybe someone here will remember which one and have the recipe.
  25. I agree with the sensitivity issue - I have gotten sick off putting my gluten-free safe dressing into a microwave right after (not letting it air out for a minute) someone cooked popcorn - no corn, soy, dairy, etc for me so I am very careful and nobody in our house has ever had an issue with me insisting I cook my food first in the oven, microwave, etc. It...
