ARCHIVED My Latest Theories
Roda replied to B'sgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I voted yes on both questions for my 6 yr old and myself. I had never gotten a flu vaccine until I was an adult working in healthcare and I recieved my hep b vaccine when I was 18 just entering college. My 6 yr old got his hep b as an infant and had had yearly flu vaccines up until this year. Last year I got him the regular flu but not the h1n1 and forgot... -
Why not put your toddler gluten free for your safety while at home? I have a bag of Bakery On Main nutty cranberry maple granola and there are no oats in it. I don't believe any of their products have oats or I wouldn't eat them since I react.

Yes. I'll send you a PM.

ARCHIVED Charcot-Leyden Crystals?
Roda replied to melgag21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The way I understand the report is that you have inflammatory changes/increased inflammatory cells in the lamina propria and they found some intraepithelial lymphocytes (white blood cells) in the following two places: 1. crypts 2. villi (rare being just a few?) Sounds like you have early changes consistant with celiac without the villi damage. If this... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Birthday Cake
Roda replied to zus888's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For my 6 year olds birthday I did two boxes of the gluten free Betty Crocker yellow cake mix and added in 4 oz of softened cream cheese in the batter to make it more moist. I baked it in a 13 x 9 pan and took it out of the oven when there were still a few fudgy crumbs on the tooth pick. I ended up removing the whole cake from the pan, cut it in half lenghwise... -

I personally won't touch anything that has wheat grass, barley grass and oat grass in it. -
ARCHIVED Iga Level For 5 Year Old?
Roda replied to GemBean's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah, that's a very positive test! If you are going to do the scope keep her eating gluten until it's done. My son's test was only one number over to be positive, so we still had a little gray zone. In some ways I do regret not doing the scope since I had it done, but on the other hand I already had a firm diagnosis for myself and I felt the positive blood... -

I bought this at my local Tractor Supply. I have seen it now for a few years and got a big chuckle out of the name. I used to use Burts Bees but wanted something more natural. The ingredients didn't raise a red flag and I checked out the ingredients on their website. What do you guys think? Open Original Shared Link Click on ingredients and... -
ARCHIVED Finally Diagnosised With Celiac's
Roda replied to cahill's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes I do understand. As the old cliche says "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink." I'm done telling my brother even though it bothers me. I know he has it too. -

Roda replied to cahill's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh C, I'm so glad you got some answers!! I've been thinking a lot about you lately. Hopefully your extended family will take this information seriously and seek testing. I know some of your siblings would probably benefit. As for your children/grandchildren this is good to know also. Is the gilbert-meulengracht syndrome hereditary? For anyone that... -
ARCHIVED Iga Level For 5 Year Old?

Are to talking about the gliadin Iga or the Iga ttg test? My youngest son (age 6) who is gluten free had a total Iga (to validate the testing ) of 147.85 ref range 30-210 mg/dL, Tissue tranglutaminase IgA Ab of 16 ref range 0-15 U/ml, gliadin IgA antibodies 7 ref range 0-15 U/ml and gliadin IgG andtibodies 6 ref range 0-15 U/ml. The only test that was positive... -
ARCHIVED Cap'n Crunch: Potential Enemy?

I react to certified gluten free oats also so I stay clear of anything gluten free that has it in. I even had to quit eating BRM products because I was reacting to them. IMHO I think it is cc from the gluten free oats. -

Ask the doctor to take at least 6 samples in the small intestine from different areas. Damage can be patchy thus why so many samples to get a more accurate biopsy. My guess you probably were misdiagnosed with IBS since you were 14 and really were celiac then. Rareley there are false positives on the blood work. -
We don't home school and my children attend public school. My youngest is gluten free and the school has been great. They made my son's classroom (kindergarden) gluten free for him. They have been very accomidating and when there were questions of possible cc they actually thought of a few I hadn't. It's a very individual decision to homeschool, do private...

I didn't like Katz. It was moister, but I thought is was eggy tasting and too sweet. It did make good french toast though.

Your welcome. Glad the ped is keeping an eye out for other possible problems. Our ped did the same thing just to be safe. We down played it also, but like you said we could tell it was starting to bother him. He was so excited after the whole summer being dry and come first grade his best friend wanted him to spend the night. Before this I would just... -
ARCHIVED Got My Endoscopy Results And Thyroid Results
Roda replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've had hashi's for many years now. My antibody levels at this point are good. I have never had an enlargement of my thyroid, but it does look weird on ultrasound. I am currently on a combo of levothyroxine(T4) and Liothyronine(T3) and have been since 2007. I was told by my current endocrinologist that I didn't covert the T4 well into T3 and it was reflected... -
ARCHIVED Pizza "cupcakes" For Kids
Roda replied to Grace'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This does sound good. Unfortunately my kids don't like biscuits. Maybe they will like this since it is the shortcake recipe. It would be a great thing make ahead and freeze for a quick snack. If they don't eat them, mom sure will! -

It is worth making sure he isn't diabetic first or that there is any other underlying medical problems going on. Here is our experience with bedwetting. Has your son ever been dry at night? I ask this because my oldest still wet the bed until he was 6 years old. Ever since he was a baby and when we potty trained, he never had a dry night. Our ped...
